Chapter 871: Chapter 277: Finally Premiered

“This is a great victory. Hollywood’s most prestigious Miracle Director, Adrian Cowell, released his new film during Thanksgiving, a biographical movie about the great country music singer Johnny Cash titled ‘Walk the Line.’ At the end of this month, he once again released a new movie, adapted from Annie Proulx’s novel of the sa na, a film that can be described as a western gay epic. With ticulous techniques and picturesque shots, the Miracle Director perfectly portrayed the emotional entanglent between two n on the big screen, so in love yet unable to be together for various reasons, remaining among the mountains and forests of Wyoming, leaving people deeply touched. This is a movie that everyone should see, a song of praise for us. Raise your rainbow flags and let them proudly fly in the sky!” This is the comnt on a hopage of a gay organization website.

“This is an intolerable desecration. Adrian Cowell, as Hollywood’s and indeed the United States’ and the world’s most famous Miracle Director, after depicting the inspiring story of the great Johnny Cash in the film ‘Walk the Line,’ released a movie about homosexuality at the end of the year! Cowell made a huge mistake; God created humans not for him and him or her and her to roll disgustingly in bed. This violates our social ethics and contradicts natural selection; it’s shaful, it’s criminal! We must say that Mr. Adrian Cowell has forgotten his responsibility; we cannot accept this!” This is a statent from a conservative group.

From the end of December 2004 to early January 2005, roughly two weeks, supporters of gay rights and conservatives engaged in a massive public opinion confrontation through various channels, sparking endless comnts about the movie ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ leaving many ordinary people astonished. When was the last ti there was such a lively scene?

Initially, many people paid attention to film reviews, and indeed so comnts were quite fair. But as the dispute escalated, so people couldn’t help but choose sides. Then, all dia followed up, with well-known hosts embarrassed if they didn’t ntion it in their shows once or twice. In the end, even Junior Bush’s narrow victory over Kerry and his withdrawal of appeals overshadowed the political news.

It’s imaginable how much attention this attracted; luckily, neither side has crossed the line yet, and accusations such as racial discrimination have not erged. In this, Adrian bore too much pressure, with gay rights organizations hoping he could support them more explicitly. In recent years, their developnt has been rapid; Boston has openly allowed sa-sex marriage. Moreover, San Francisco and West Hollywood have even seen small-scale parades over this.

Similarly, conservative organizations also want to force him back onto the right track, launching a boycott campaign against ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ Salt Lake City even publicly announced they wouldn’t allow the film to premiere locally. Originally, so people wanted to start a boycott of AC dia, but, of course, this kind of foolish behavior got terminated before it began. ‘Brokeback Mountain’ is just a movie, but to boycott AC dia… no going to cinemas to watch Superhero movies? Not watching ABC TV shows? Not using popular Arican TV series? Not using websites like Yahoo and Google?

This scenario is precisely what entertainnt journalists love to see, especially with AC dia’s outlets adopting an impartial facade, making other journalists even more delighted and excited. For how many years, there has been so much news about the Miracle Director, yet every ti reports must be selected carefully, so stories written vaguely; how could the other party not be a dia mogul?

Yet now, this power has beco a pressure, a huge pressure. Before this, soone said when thinking Adrian’s new movie couldn’t possibly be about a gay story, no matter how hard he tries to maintain the director identity, dia mogul remains his most important label. So far, although gay rights movent has never been so vigorous, which among those super-rich openly supports homosexuality? Let’s not talk about those super-rich; how many well-known directors in Hollywood have openly supported it?

Yes, anti-discrimination is politically correct, but the whole society continues in a conservative trend. Otherwise, how could such a big commotion arise, with Miracle Director considered as if for the first ti shooting himself in the foot—if those schadenfreude journalists understand this phrase? Then, what is Adrian doing now?

“Oh, dear little baby, sleeping so soundly, daddy wants to hug you.” Adrian leaned over the crib, gazing lovingly at the little one inside. He even ignored Mary next to him, who tried reaching the railing to see her sister but failed several tis and eventually had to pull at his pants leg.

It wasn’t until Mary angrily called out “Daddy” that Adrian snapped out of it, quickly picking her up and moving over to the crib: “Look, this is your sister Evelyn, Mary.”

“She’s so tiny.” After staring with an open mouth for a few minutes, Mary said sticking her tongue out, “Was I like this before?”

“Of course, but you were a bit fatter,” Adrian pinched her little cheek. “Evelyn got a bit hurt when she ca into this world, which is why she looks so small.”

Mary rolled her eyes and finally said, “Can I give her my Barbie doll? Maybe Ev… Evelyn would be… a bit happier?”

“Certainly.” Adrian smiled and kissed his daughter; then, gan and Jessica walked into the room one after the other.

“This is awful, I haven’t succeeded once, maybe… maybe I’m just not suitable…” gan complained as she walked in, instinctively wanting a hug from Adrian but hesitating as she saw Mary in his arms.

Adrian chuckled, returned Mary to Jessica’s arms, and then gently embraced gan.

“Don’t worry, little fox, rember what I said? Be patient, take it slow, don’t rush. With and Jessica’s help, you’ll definitely beco a qualified mother soon,” Adrian comforted, giving her still slightly chubby waist a pinch.

It took a mont for gan to cheer up slightly. Truth be told, she had a fair share: unexpected pregnancy, prenatal depression, postpartum depression, and… preterm labor.

That’s right, Adrian’s eighth child was a premature baby. Originally, gan’s due date was in late January, but after an unexpected fall post-Christmas, she suffered abdominal pain. The maid quickly took her to the hospital, and the baby was born. At that ti, the little one weighed just over 4 pounds, small like she might shatter with a touch, spending several days in the incubator before coming out.

This was Adrian’s first prematurely born child, but thankfully he was prepared in advance. The hospital was also extrely familiar with him, allowing the little one, aside from the low birth weight leading her to stay in the incubator for a few days, to be otherwise quite healthy. Of course, she was another girl; Adrian had long since given up hope of having a son. In fact, he even hoped to only have daughters.

However, this little one, like her sister Eleanor, beca a second child without a ‘proper’ na. Thus Adrian nad her ‘Evelyn,’ aning life, to commorate her premature birth.

“See, this is good, isn’t it? Longer breastfeeding ti doesn’t matter.” After guiding gan on breastfeeding her daughter, Adrian said beside her.

“That’s because you want to taste it too,” Jessica said unreservedly from the side.

“Yeah, yeah, I’ve almost forgotten your taste, Jessie.” Adrian chuckled, causing Jessica’s face to flush, while gan, busy with breastfeeding, giggled.

Her postpartum depression, like Jessica’s, was caused by young age and inexperience in child care, so recovery was mild just like her prenatal depression. After all, as Charlize put it, living next to Adrian, a woman feels incapable without a big heart. So, as long as Adrian has enough patience, plus Jessica’s help, gan can gradually recover.

“If you need it, you can right now,” gan suddenly said while licking her lips, not minding Evelyn sucking eagerly on her chest, even if her figure hadn’t fully recovered but was enticing enough.

“Wow, delighted,” Adrian winked, pulling Jessica closer by the waist. “But you wouldn’t mind adding one more, would you, little fox?”

The expression of the two won turned peculiar, then they both humd softly, “No problem.”

If it weren’t for the surprised look on both their faces, one might have thought they had agreed upon it beforehand, so Adrian laughed heartily.

“Alright, Ed, if you don’t leave now, you’ll be late,” Jessica said, pushing him with a slight embarrassnt.

If possible, Adrian didn’t mind trying; though he finally got them both into bed earlier, it hadn’t been entirely satisfying due to gan’s pregnancy. Unfortunately, he indeed had other engagents tonight, as he needed to attend the premiere of “moirs of a Geisha.”

Despite the recent uproar surrounding “Brokeback Mountain,” with two factions constantly at odds, it hasn’t affected the film market. “Kinsey,” distributed by Focus Features under Universal, is a typical art piece, and even upon release, won’t have a wide-scale showing. However, “moirs of a Geisha” aims not only at the Oscars but also hopes to achieve sothing at the box office, hence the inevitable premiere.

“Alright, everyone, I know what you’re eager to ask, but what I want to say is, the movie hasn’t been released yet, so why get so excited? How can you grasp the key issue without even seeing the film? It’s quite unprofessional. Besides, today another film is showing, yet you’re relentlessly pursuing another—this is even less professional,” Adrian remarked calmly as he faced the swarm of reporters upon learning he’d appear on the red carpet of “moirs of a Geisha” premiere.

The reporters had been keen on extracting information from him for quite a while, so how could they be satisfied with this answer? Instantly, a hubbub erupted, but Adrian paid no heed as he walked inside. Seeing this, so quick-witted individuals began snapping shots of his back and pondering over what title would better fit: “A Miraculously Calm Director” or “Completely Unconcerned Adrian Cowell.”

Even without gan’s premature labor, Adrian wouldn’t have fretted over this turmoil; having decided to produce “Brokeback Mountain,” he surely anticipated the current circumstances. Of course, he couldn’t deny things got a bit intense: The Godfather and his uncle both called about it—the forr advised caution, the latter questioned his intentions—fitting their personalities indeed.

But it didn’t stray far from his control; when “Brokeback Mountain” premieres, clarity will manifest—not too distant post “moirs of a Geisha.”

“moirs of a Geisha,” doesn’t warrant much discussion—the main focus is Japan’s geisha culture: their art performances, rigorous training, self-expression, rivalries, etc.—the protagonist’s journey is secondary. Several main actors underwent extensive training, and professionals from Japan were enlisted; albeit they are distanced from true geisha status, film editing sufficiently astonishes those unfamiliaring before the silver screen.

Additionally, Adrian specifically requested altering the ending to align with mainstream values—unless the ending is established and hailed as classic, the preferred path for female characters is independent and strong. Though Japanese viewers remain sowhat unsatisfied, Arican audiences seed agreeable, unlikely to follow the original’s footsteps.

Moreover, Nakama Yukie, the lead actress, had been forging ahead in the United States for years, producing many excellent TV and film works; she’s near first-tier status, knowing well the type of performances Aricans prefer. Also, she has won a Dayti Emmy Award—though not extrely prestigious, it’s top-tier among Asians. Despite Lin Chi-Ling featuring in two major productions this year, she has yet garnered such accolades.

So, this evening, Adrian didn’t invite Matsushima Nanako, Fujiwara Norika, and Fukada Kyoko to engage in a fourso, but instead indulged intimately with Yukie.

“You’re always so outstanding, Yukie,” Adrian said, stroking the skin of the woman nestled in his arms post-passion, “no matter when.”

“Everything cos from your provision,” Yukie smiled shyly, resting on his chest—always humble, catering to his whims without complaint, silently tending to everything in the background, no matter how hectic work is. As long as she’s in Adrian’s mansion, she’s the ideal personal maid.

Unconsciously, she beca part of his life; although he might not think of her often, she always appears when needed.

Amid playfully teasing her softness, Adrian suddenly asked, “The crew will next head to Japan for publicity; do you wish to accompany?”

Yukie hesitated montarily, then replied smoothly, “As long as you need.”

Adrian chuckled softly, decided not to press further, and playfully pinched her cheek, “Let’s try sothing new next.”

He wasn’t genuinely planning to assist in promoting in Japan; his inquiry held an alternate aning which Yukie understood: whether a companion was needed. After all, won around him often ca in pairs, and although singles existed, they were few and always arranged—currently Yukie alone filled this role.

However, it was apparent she wasn’t keen on the idea—understandably, as Yukie notably appeared aptly when needed and quietly retreated otherwise, maintaining her solitary prominence. An additional presence might disrupt this dynamic; even so, she returned the choice to him, and thus Adrian let go of the notion after circling in his mind.

Avoiding the folly of scheduling the film at a peak release ti, unaffected by feminist critiques of its ending, starring actors familiar to Aricans, coupled with proper early publicity, “moirs of a Geisha” earned approximately 12 million in its North Arican opening week among over 1,000 theaters—not grand but a promising start, indicative of Arican acceptance. The rest is rely a matter of ti; anwhile, Japanese protests are not vehent, ensuring greater gains here—though the mainland market, upon release, might still fare below the original.

No matter—the mainland film market, amidst continuous growth, yet remains years away from rendering Hollywood indispensable, prompting Adrian to seize ti and opportunities to expand AC dia’s mainland influence. Furthermore, how things unfold remains uncertain; absent certain elents, so gains might be amplified.

DreamWorks and Sony, involved in this film, were reasonably content—especially DreamWorks who faced notably fewer losses in this cinematic dinsion than in another tiline. Consequently, besides Katzenberg feeling slightly unfulfilled due to the sumr success of “Shrek 2,” Spielberg and Geffen didn’t consider it apt to separate the animation studio and enter a joint venture with AC dia.

Alright, leaving that aside: regardless of how this version of “moirs of a Geisha” surpasses the original in praise, what dia currently concentrates on most is Adrian’s new work, “Brokeback Mountain.”

Following the test screening, his public appearance didn’t alleviate the confrontation between LGBTQ organizations and conservative groups; on the contrary, more individuals and teams approached seeking persuasion, even Ivanka had started feeling overwheld dealing with these—churning further attention onto the film, prompting even re-elected Junior Bush facing journalistic inquiries over it during a press conference.

“Sir, the film hasn’t premiered yet.” Junior Bush resorted to this response to fend off reporters—as President, he couldn’t overtly declare a stance at this ti.

Then, “Brokeback Mountain” fully premiered in mid-January 2005. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please co to qidian to vote for recomndations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
