Chapter 751: Chapter 158: Private Doctor

“When my agent told I had an audition for a movie, I really didn’t expect it to be a Hollywood film. I was completely unprepared and super nervous; I was in pretty bad shape. So, after the audition, as soon as I stepped outside, I thought: that’s it, there goes the opportunity I finally caught. But who knew, not long after that, my agent notified that I got the role. It was quite a surprise. It took more than ten minutes to co around, and I called Ayu imdiately. It was then I found out that Ed helped out. It’s really nice to be able to thank you in person…”

After several months of preparation, “The Last Samurai” had officially comnced filming, and Fukada Kyoko had also co to Los Angeles. DreamWorks didn’t have any objections to her being handpicked for the supporting female role; after all, it wasn’t a particularly big part, at most becoming another gossip topic during their leisure tis.

What was surprising was that Cruise actually agreed to play the leading male role. How Spielberg managed to persuade him is anyone’s guess. But then again, it was just Universal investing in the project—nothing major, who would clash with their own interests? However, it seems like, for now, DreamWorks had hitched their wagon to him.

There was another interesting incident. The search for the male supporting role went back and forth but ultimately went to Keanu Watanabe. He wanted to recomnd a Japanese model for the other supporting female role and even personally visited Kyoko’s agency to… “persuade” them. Of course, after learning the specifics, he quickly retreated.

Furthermore, he was extrely attentive to Kyoko to the extent that she said many good words about him in front of Adrian. Every entertainnt circle has its similarities, and Watanabe, an old fox who had been scrabbling around for decades, was naturally very familiar with such things. That’s why Adrian’s idea to undercut him had popped up only to be quickly deflated.

It was a pity. Adrian had originally planned to sabotage his Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Adrian sighed slightly. After having lunch with him due to Kyoko’s relayed invitation, Adrian actually grew a bit fond of this polite older Japanese man. He was respectful without being obsequious and seed genuinely likable. If this wasn’t an act of good performance, then it was the Japanese instinct—to follow the strong.

Besides, in front of Adrian, Watanabe complinted Kyoko quite a bit during the lunch they attended together. Even if Adrian could see that he was only playing around, when Adrian half-jokingly asked him to look after Kyoko, he readily agreed. His respect and politeness were such that it made any ideas of teasing him vanish.

Of course, in Adrian’s view, much of her popularity stemd from her family background; after all, gossip like that could really attract attention—the woman of an Oscar-winning actor. Oh, I forgot to ntion, the TV was playing the adult version of “Tomb Raider,” yes, that’s the one he secretly financed for DP to shoot, inviting the most famous Porn Queen to star in it.

There’s nothing more unpredictable than this. From her past life, she seed like a woman who was willing to lose face whenever she needed to, and she also ca from a decent family. How had she ended up in such a state? However, if this was a few years ago, Adrian might have sighed with sympathy. But now, he just shrugged his shoulders. If he had the ti and she was still at that nightclub, it might be worth a visit, wondering how many people would appreciate that body fat now.

Let’s not talk about that. Even though “The Last Samurai” had started shooting, “moirs of a Geisha” was nowhere near starting its preparation, even though the script was finished and had been shown to Yukie.

“After the New Year, Universal will start preparations and casting, then spend three to four months training in geisha skills before they start filming. If everything goes as planned, it will be released at the end of ’04. So, you have just over three months now to fully get into the character of Sayuri, understand, Yukie?” Adrian said to Yukie when discussing “moirs of a Geisha.”

“Yes, I understand. I will do my best,” Yukie nodded obediently. She never spared any effort in showing her compliance in front of Adrian, fully aware that she couldn’t compete with Kate and the others, but compared to Fukada Kyoko or Ayumi Hamasaki, she held a unique place in Adrian’s heart.

However, her slight hesitation did not escape Adrian’s eyes: “If you have any concerns, just ask.”

“I looked into the background of this novel, as well as the controversy it stirred up. I’m a little worried that the film might end up the sa way,” Yukie said without any hesitation, knowing that Adrian never minded his won being ambitious.

“That’s why I had them modify the script,” Adrian laughed. “In the end, we’re left with one—a woman who is independent, who lives entirely for herself. I think a lot of people will like it.”

Yukie was montarily stunned but quickly composed herself, maintaining her usual submissive deanour: “I understand.”

Independent? Living entirely for oneself? Of course, there were such won, but none who weren’t strong personalities. So, the so-called independence was nothing more than not having t a man so dominant that she couldn’t resist. From this viewpoint, the ending of the previous version was the normal one, as was the real life of Iwazaki Mineko—if one still wanted good box office, one had to cater to the taste of the majority; it didn’t matter what the reality was.

And for this reason, although Parineeti thought for quite a while, her answer didn’t surprise Adrian.

“That’s wonderful, Parineeti. So, where do you plan to go—Harvard, John Hopkins, or Columbia?” Adrian brought Parineeti a cup of tea.

Parineeti took the cup and was about to speak when a thought seed to strike her, and she closed her mouth. She sipped her tea for over ten seconds before looking up again: “Perhaps, Stanford or University of California San Francisco. That would be… a bit closer.”

Very good, smart girl. Adrian nodded internally, pleased that his effort in her had not been in vain.

“Then let’s settle on Stanford.” Adrian, being straightforward, accepted her kindness. Even though University of California San Francisco ranked higher in dicine than Stanford, the difference wasn’t as significant as between Harvard and Stanford, and he had many more connections at Stanford. Besides, he was training a personal doctor, not a dical PhD.

That’s right, when Adrian inquired whether Parineeti was willing to go to dical school, he was thinking of training her as his personal doctor. Such a practice was common—dical college being so competitive and tuition so expensive, it shut out many aspiring yet financially constrained young people. As a result, many wealthy individuals chose to sponsor capable young people to study dicine, then enter into personal doctor contracts with them, thereby ensuring both skill and loyalty upon their training completion.

Adrian was not without personal doctors; in fact, he had several and made donations to various hospitals. He had also supported so doctors with whom he had good relationships to open private clinics—every super-rich individual did the sa. So, adding one more Parineeti to the mix wouldn’t be a problem; she’d fit right in as the head general physician.

The private physician originally responsible for this was Adolf Hendry—don’t misunderstand, he just shares the na with Little Mustache—and like Attorney Wilson and Uncle Regret, he had served the Cowell family for two generations. Moreover, he beca the private physician of the Cowell family because of the sponsorship model.

Although Hendry’s skills were solid and his condition good, he was in his sixties, after all, and it was inevitable that in a few years, he would no longer have the energy. Parineeti, having been influenced by her family and already holding an undergraduate degree, could directly enter dical school. In a few years, when she would co out, she would be just right to take over for Hendry. If the old man were willing, he could even hold a consultant title, occasionally give so guidance to Parineeti, which was very fitting.

Moreover, having a beautiful and trustworthy woman as a private physician was not only easy on the eyes but also served purposes beyond diagnosis.

“Now is just right, I’ll arrange for your enrollnt as quickly as possible,” Adrian said with a smile as he pinched the chin of the Indian girl.

“So do I resign now?” Parineeti didn’t mind his action; she knew what Adrian ant, which is why she had considered it for several days.

But Adrian was very clear that once he had thrown out this topic, Parineeti had only this one path to agree to. After all, both her parents were doctors, and she had originally wanted to attend dical school, only having to give up dicine and beco a flight attendant due to family circumstances. If given the chance to continue her parents’ legacy, she certainly wouldn’t let it pass.

Besides, even though the work of a private flight attendant was relatively easy and ca with good salary and benefits, being Adrian’s bedmate with all sorts of advantages, lacking a skill for the future was hard to predict.

With these two reasons, she had enough to make her choice. Although they mostly spent ti together on the plane, Adrian understood so of her thoughts quite well. Moreover, her career as a bedmate had been going on for more than a year now, and she had played every trick in the book. Not to ntion that as of late, it was often four against one—though not completely trained to obedience, she was sowhat indulging in it. After all, in this world, she was the only one left in her family; giving up these comforts for freedom was nearly impossible.

In addition, having spent a lot of ti on his private plane, she roughly knew how he treated his won. Since she was his bedmate already, what difference did it make if she was a flight attendant or a private physician? With these factors combined, Parineeti’s choice was long decided.

“No problem, I accept your resignation,” Adrian nodded, “As for the vacancy, I won’t arrange for soone else temporarily.”

“Really? I was just wondering, Ed, are you not able to handle the four of us, so you want to pick out?” Parineeti asked with a smile, her eyes curving up too. The Indian girl could joke as well.

—————-

“Hey, Leah, want to go out tonight? We’ve got a party in West Forest District.” A voice called from afar, and after organizing her materials, Leah Dizon looked up to see a young man, around eighteen or nineteen, wrapped in a headscarf and wearing earrings, exuding a hip-hop vibe.

“Thank you, but no need, Dick. I have other things to do tonight,” the young girl shrugged her shoulders, “Also, I need to remind you that I’m still in school.”

“Oh, what a disappointnt,” the young man called out playfully, “Leah, you don’t seem like a good girl to .”

“That’s none of your business.” Leah gave him a glance and turned back to continue sorting through her things.

Seeing that she really wasn’t paying attention to him, the young man eventually left, shaking his head and swaying as he walked out the door. It was only after his figure had vanished at the entrance that Leah turned around again and let out a sigh. She knew this young man nad Dick was interested in her; in fact, due to her mixed-race appearance and frequent work in various studios, many young n were interested in her. She had encountered several TV producers who hinted they could make her famous, but it was this sowhat boyish young man who sowhat touched her heart.

However, she wouldn’t possibly date him. Even if she wanted to, soone would soon warn her, making it clear what she should do.

Her ability to move from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, continuously secure nurous decent jobs in various studios while schooling and enjoying a comfortable life, was all thanks to one person, an important figure. Her life in Las Vegas had also taught her early on that such important figures were not to be offended, yet she had sohow managed to do just that.

Frankly speaking, living in Los Angeles was fantastic, without the annoying parents, without the fearful environnt. As long as she kept her boundaries, she could freely attend parties. However, after seeing too many celebrities and losing the sense of mystery, the initial yearning for a life in the spotlight had faded considerably. Her desire to travel to Japan persisted, but due to certain reasons, even though she had saved enough money for the trip, she couldn’t go just yet.

After organizing everything, Leah gathered her belongings and greeted the others before stepping outside. This place was close to the main street; there was no need for an electric car, she could just walk out.

At that mont, her phone suddenly rang. Glancing at the number, she quickly answered, “Hello, Miss Lin, what can I do for you? You’re in the parking lot? Alright, I’m on my way.”

After hanging up, Leah blanked out for a few seconds before quickly turning around and walking to the parking lot. Soon, she saw a professional-looking Asian woman in a black won’s suit and sunglasses standing in front of a Bentley at the parking spot ntioned on the phone. If she took off her glasses, one would realize she was Lin Xilei, a well-known Chinese Arican agent in Hollywood. It was because of her that Leah was able to land many relatively easy jobs here. However, it was also her who often admonished Leah in different situations to watch her behavior.

“Miss Lin, may I ask what the matter is?” Leah hurried over and asked nervously. There was no one else around; it was obvious she had co specifically to see her. This had almost never happened before.

After giving her a look up and down, Lin Xilei nodded and then made a gesture, “Get in the car.”

“Hmm?”

“Ed wants to see you.” (To be continued. If you like this work, welco to vote for it at qidian. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
