Chapter 243: Chapter 241 Burton and His Partner Chapter 243: Chapter 241 Burton and His Partner I’ve said before that throughout the 1990s, romantic codies were extrely popular. Of course, this is not to say that romantic codies were not popular at other tis; it’s just that the ’90s produced quite a few notable romantic codies, the most famous of which was Julia Roberts’s quartet of love stories. Essentially, Julia’s status in Hollywood was largely owing to these four outstanding romantic codies.

Especially since these four characters, though greatly different, shared one consistent trait: independence, strength, and confidence. It was precisely because of this that Julia beca—yes, without a doubt, Arica’s most popular actress, reaching a peak that many other actresses could not attain.

And now, all of this had beco Adrian’s bargaining chip; he even added fuel to the fire. The huge box office success of the adapted new version of “Four Weddings and a Funeral” could easily be inserted into the quartet, turning it into a quintet. In this way, how could Julia possibly escape from the palm of his hand?

However, not every woman was worth his collection, such as Caron Diaz, who beca the leading lady of “The Mask.” On this point, Adrian indeed spoke the truth; sleeping with Caron was an accident.

When the company got the script, Adrian imdiately invited Jim Carrey to join. At that ti, he didn’t yet have the title of Cody King, making it the perfect opportunity to pull him into his camp.

But the original script was not the one Adrian knew; it was very dark and full of black humor, so when Carrey declined the invitation, it was a surprise. However, the latter imdiately made cautious suggestions through his agent, after all, it was an invitation from the Miracle Director, and how many actors like him would genuinely refuse?

Adrian was very surprised after reading the suggestions because Jim Carrey’s recomndations in many aspects were very similar to the one he rembered, especially the male lead’s character, which was exaggerated to the point of being completely unrealistic. It was only then that he went to examine the script carefully, having only skimd it briefly before. Needless to say, Adrian had the writers make changes to the story, and then he extended the invitation again.

Jim Carrey not only did not refuse again but was also very grateful. In his view, this was Adrian showing respect and sincerity, unaware that the original idea had been just that.

Next was naturally selecting the other roles and then beginning preparations; Adrian naturally thought of the pretty girl who also had a mouthful and a bright smile, who had risen to fa through this film. After so reflection and with an attitude of giving it a try, he looked for her in the modeling world and quite simply found the na Caron Diaz because she was also quite well-known in the modeling industry and had been an advertising model for Coca-Cola.

To everyone’s surprise, after her audition, Adrian hadn’t begun to probe, but Caron took the initiative to ask him out for dinner first! Adrian had intended to temporarily drop the idea after looking at her information, knowing she already had a boyfriend who was an indie producer. But he hadn’t expected the other party to be so proactive.

There was no need to elaborate on what followed; it was no different from any one-night stand: dinner, conversation, strolling around, and then checking into a hotel room. Although Caron didn’t deliberately flirt with Adrian, she didn’t miss any chance to show off her charm, so why should Adrian hold back?

The two had quite a night in the hotel, with Caron being very open; aside from the usual, she used all sorts of tricks, and once again proved the advantages of having a big mouth, earning her a rather high score from Adrian.

Regardless of what Caron would beco in the future, at least now she was young and beautiful, with a near-perfect figure and decent skills, all of which satisfied Adrian. But that was it. Maybe there would be one or more passionate encounters in the future, but it would just be for fun, much like Drew Barrymore, not of much collector’s value.

This had been decided the mont Adrian took her to the hotel instead of his ho. How many people would take a one-night stand back ho? Of course, he still had to give the promised benefits.

Anyway, let’s not talk about that. The day after the party, Julia woke up and suddenly beca a bit cold, the most direct sign being she locked the bathroom door from the inside, leaving Adrian standing outside bewildered for a long ti. But he didn’t take it to heart; the more he got to know Julia, the clearer he was about her thoughts, which were nothing but a difficulty in accepting the words and actions fueled by alcohol the night before.

No matter, it was only a matter of ti. Adrian reflected on Julia’s wildness from the previous night with this thought.

Soon, 1993’s Halloween arrived, and Aricans began to celebrate once again. Parties, an indispensable part of life, were everywhere at this ti, with bars, nightclubs, and clubs cramming with youths as dusk fell.

Adrian actually quite liked parties, where in the bustling atmosphere he could chat with friends, discuss work with subordinates or people from other companies, or flirt with won he knew or didn’t—these were all fine activities. But if one attended too many parties, it could beco tireso or even nauseating; he was not a party animal. Unfortunately, he now had to go to a club to attend soone’s party—soone who wasn’t very fond of him—following an arrangent made at the celebration party of “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”

“I don’t like it here,” Charlize, following Adrian, whispered as they entered the club.

Because of Halloween, both of them had dressed up simply, with Charlize wearing a butterfly mask while Adrian wore a black, high-collared cloak—if he added two fangs, along with red contact lenses, he could claim to be Count Dracula.

Even so, they were no stranger than the people in the club, who were reveling with Mohawks or long nose rings, thick eye makeup, and tattered clothes. They stomped their feet desperately in the dance floor to the beat of heavy tal rock, appearing like wild fiends under the spinning lights in the midst of the colorful dance.

“Why don’t you like it? Aren’t you young too?” Adrian turned his head and teased.

Charlize gave him a roll of eyes and said no more, Adrian chuckled and headed for the reserved private room. Even though the youths going wild on the dance floor all looked bizarre, it didn’t an there weren’t normally dressed people in the club. They were either drinking, smoking marijuana, or wrapped up in passionate kisses—a mix of n and won, n with n, and won with won, each of them exuding a carefree and unrestrained vibe, quite similar to the club’s owner.

Adrian and Charlize quickly arrived outside the reserved private room. Although soone was already seated inside, it wasn’t the person they were looking for. The man was very young and handso but a bit too gaunt, his complexion a sickly pale even under the dim lighting of the private room.

Despite this, he leaned carelessly against the soft couch, smoking marijuana. He offered a rolled joint to Adrian as he entered, “Want one?”

“No, thanks,” Adrian shook his head and took a seat with Charlize.

“You look cool,” he said with a smile after sizing up Adrian.

“More like an old antique, I’d say,” Adrian joked, tossing his cloak aside.

“People who say that either lack self-esteem or have way too much of it. Usually, they don’t even know who they are,” the young man retorted with disdain, earning so admiration from Adrian.

The young man then offered the marijuana to Charlize, “How about you, girl? Want one?”

“No thanks,” Charlize, who had removed her mask, responded indifferently, pointing to Adrian, “I have a better way to fill the void of loneliness and boredom.”

“Really?” The young man glanced at Adrian and laughed nervously, “Indeed, there are many ways to ease sorrow in this world. Marijuana is the dumbest but also the quickest, which makes it hard to quit once you’re accustod to it.”

He murmured, leaning back on the couch, his eyes beginning to look dreamy, whether from the high or so sorrow.

“I’m surprised to hear you say that,” Adrian whispered teasingly to Charlize.

“I was just looking for an excuse to decline,” Charlize maintained her emotionless facade.

Adrian chuckled softly without further comnt, his interest in the young man smoking in solitude grew. Just as he was about to ask a question, a voice ca from outside the private room, “Sorry, Ed, we’re late.”

Following the voice, a man in his late thirties entered, sporting disheveled hair with a tendency for his brows to form a frown, and a distinctive hooked nose. He was accompanied by a young man with his shirt collar open, brows shadowed with lancholy yet bearing a rebellious expression, and an air of nonchalance.

“We’re not late, we just got here ourselves,” Adrian stood up and had only said a word when the young man who had just arrived joyously embraced the young man in the room, “Hey, River, damn, you’re actually here.”

“I thought you wouldn’t catch , Mr. Stinky,” River, the young man, finally smiled as they hugged tightly and then laughed out loud, ignoring everyone else.

“John and River are very close,” the middle-aged man explained to Adrian.

“It seems you have sothing going on, so I won’t disturb you,” River chuckled with the young man for a bit, patted his shoulder, smiled at Adrian, and then walked out.

“Take care,” the young man casually nodded, drew the private room’s curtain, and when he turned back around, his face had returned to the previous cold deanor, casting a detached glance at Adrian before sitting down beside the middle-aged man.

“Well, let’s get started,” the middle-aged man broke the ice.

Adrian smiled indifferently and began talking in a business-like tone, “Alright, Mr. Burton, Mr. Depp, to put it simply…”
