Ah Dai scratched his head, saying, "Well, I’m job hunting." Having filled his stomach and received news about the Mage Guild, Ah Dai’s gloomy mood suddenly lifted a bit.
The owner of the stead bun shop said, "You can go straight down this road until the second intersection. Take a right, walk until the end and take a left. After one more intersection, you will see it. Both the Mage Guild and the rcenary Guild are right there. But finding a job there can be a bit difficult. I suggest you try becoming a rcenary instead. The city has a lot of rcenary corps recruiting now, and the pay is relatively high, you can make several Gold Coins each month. If you really can’t find anything, you can always work here in my shop. It’s a bit difficult, but at least you’ll have a guaranteed al on the table. My wife is at ho taking care of the kid, she can’t help here, I’ve had to do everything myself."
After thanking the owner of the stead bun store for his kindness, Ah Dai followed the directions to the Mage Guild. He was determined to fulfill Owen’s dying wishes. Since his uncle had told him to register at the Mage Guild, it must be for a good reason.
After turning several corners, Ah Dai arrived on a bustling main street. Here, it was common to see people carrying weapons, wearing light armor, and bearing rcenary badges on their chests. Not far ahead, a large building appeared. At the top of the building was a large sign featuring an image of a shield and two longswords. Beneath this image were four large characters - rcenary Guild. People were constantly coming in and out of the building, adding to the lively scene.
Ah Dai curiously looked around. Just as he was about to move forward, a man dressed as a rcenary approached. The man was taller than Ah Dai, with short red hair sticking up wildly. He wore a brown leather armor and a longsword hung from his waist. His rcenary emblem featured a red lion’s head, making him appear bold and rugged.
"Young man, please wait a mont," the man waved Ah Dai to stop.
Ah Dai paused, asking, "? Do you need sothing?"
The man gave a laugh and said, "Young man, I can tell from your attire that you are training in the martial arts. Are you interested in joining a rcenary corps? Our Red Lion rcenary Corps has quite a reputation in the city. If you join us, your base salary would be three Gold Coins per month. As your rcenary level increases, you’ll receive pay raises and a cut of the rewards from each mission. This is the best deal you’re going to find."
The man spoke so fast that Ah Dai didn’t quite follow, so he shook his head, saying, "I, I don’t want to beco a rcenary."
The man was taken aback, frowning, "What? You must be kidding. While I can tell that you’re not local, every young samurai coming here is eager to make his mark as a rcenary. Young man, you’ll regret passing up such an opportunity."
Despite the man’s words, Ah Dai persisted in shaking his head, "I’m sorry, but I really don’t want to be a rcenary. Could you please step aside?"
The man huffed, muttering, "What a spineless kid." He turned around and walked back towards the rcenary Guild.
Ah Dai couldn’t help but wonder, was he considered spineless for not wanting to join a rcenary corps? Anyway, he’d think about it later. For now, he needed to get to the Mage Guild. With that thought, he quickened his pace.
The Mage Guild occupied a large building next to the rcenary Guild, but compared to its neighbour, it was noticeably quieter, with considerably fewer people coming and going. As Ah Dai was about to enter, he heard soone calling him from behind, "Wait a second, young man." He turned around to see the red-haired man from before, but this ti, there was another man with him. The new man stood about 1.8 ters tall. He appeared to be in his forties, with a clean-shaven face, black hair, and sparkling eyes, beside him was a Tian Gang sword, similar to the one Ah Dai carried.
Ah Dai paused and watched as the two n approached. The red-haired man said, "Young man, this is the deputy leader of our Red Lion rcenary Corps. He should be a senior mber of your sect."
Ah Dai was taken aback. A senior mber of his sect? Noticing the sword hilt peeking out from the man’s shoulder, Ah Dai recalled Owen’s words and suddenly realized that this deputy leader must also be a mber of the Tian Gang Sword Sect. Owen had told him to show respect if he ca across mbers of the Tian Gang Sword Sect. With that in mind, he quickly bowed and said, "Uncle, nice to et you."
The black-haired middle-aged man smiled gently, "Young man, could I know who your master is? My na is Feng Ping. In terms of relationship, I think I should be your martial uncle."
Martial uncle? Ah Dai shook his head, "I, I don’t have a master, only a teacher."
A smile crept into Feng Ping’s heart. He thought to himself, ’What a naive kid, probably just started wandering in the mainland,’ He asked aloud, "What’s your teacher’s na?"
Ah Dai hesitated a mont before replying, "I, I can’t say." Owen had cautioned him to be careful when outside and to never reveal too much, he certainly couldn’t say Owen’s na, and he couldn’t ntion his teacher Goris either.
