Arriving at the gate of the City Lord’s Mansion, Kary paused, speaking to the gatekeeper, "Please convey our arrival. Tell Lord City Lord that Chairman Kary of the Mage Guild requests an audience."

The gatekeeper, already intimidated by the presence of so many magicians, quickly relayed the ssage. After a brief mont, the mansion gates swung open. A middle-aged man in his fifties, surrounded by guards, welcod them. The man projected an air of righteousness. Despite his age, nothing about his appearance suggested frailty. His deep eyes hinted at his exceptional foresight, and his tall stature was prominent even under the simple white robes. It was Aldos, the Lord of the City of Light. He held a high position within the Empire of Huasheng, especially in the military, second only to Feng Wen, the Supre Commander. Adored by his soldiers for his bravery in battle, Aldos had complete control over the whole army of the Province of Light and answered directly to the upper echelons of the Empire. Concurrently, he was the biological brother of the current Empress and a hereditary Marquis. Hence, the Empire of Huasheng had stationed him here, an important stronghold for the Empire- the Province of Light.

"Chairman Kary, what brings you here today?" Aldos greeted warmly. The relationship between the Mage Guild and the Empire of Huasheng has always been far superior to that with other countries. The Empire of Huasheng is the only country with a Magic Legion. Thus, even a high-ranking official like Aldos treated the chairman of the Mage Guild with utmost respect. Moreover, the two were old friends.

Kary sighed, saying, "Lord City Lord, let’s discuss this inside. I have an urgent matter to report to you."

Noticing the seriousness on Kary’s face, Aldos realized that sothing significant must have happened. With haste he replied, "Chairman, please co in." Aldos and Kary, followed by their guards and several magicians, entered the Lord’s mansion. Aldos then invited Kary into his private chamber, asking the magicians who had accompanied him to stay outside. Now only Aldos and Kary were left in the room. Aldos then inquired, "Brother Kary, what exactly has happened that made you co here personally?"

Kary, with a worried look in his eyes, said, "The matter is grave, just now, more than twenty intruders stord into our Mage Guild, attempting to assassinate our magicians by using forbidden dark magic. These people included five Dark Magicians. Judging from their abilities, at least one of them is at the level of a Magus. The rest are assassins of considerable skill."

Aldos was taken aback. The City of Light was known for its safety. The recent attack at Mage Guild, therefore, as the City Lord, placed a heavy burden on his shoulders. He quickly asked, "Brother Kary, how severe are the casualties in the Guild? I’ve received no reports about this!"

Kary sighed, "Thankfully, a disciple of the Tian Gang Sword Sect happened to be present in the Guild. His martial arts skills are highly advanced. Despite being gravely injured, he resisted the attackers, buying us so ti. However, the intruders even dared to use the forbidden summoning of demons, intending to annihilate our Mage Guild. They fled."

Aldos pondered for a while, then left the chamber to give his guards so orders. He imdiately put the City of Light under martial law and dispatched the military to search for the enemy.

After issuing the commands, Aldos returned to the secret chamber, "I’ve sent people to search. Brother Kary who do you think would dare to make a move on the Mage Guild?"

Kary snorted coldly, "Need I say it out loud? I believe you can guess."

Aldos sucked in a breath, whispering, "Are you implying it’s the people from the Empire of Sunset City?"

Kary nodded, speaking aningfully, "The Mage Guild has always been affiliated with the Empire of Huasheng, naturally posing a significant threat to the Empire of Sunset City. The total number of mages in the other three countries still falls short of the number in Huasheng. Moreover, these mages are largely under the control of the Guild. If Huasheng and Sunset went to war, with the aid of the mages, Sunset City would likely be at a disadvantage!"

Aldos paced around the chamber, stopping after quite a while, his eyes radiating a cold gleam, "So, are you suggesting that the Empire of Sunset City harbours ambitions to invade our lands."

Kary replied, "Although we can’t prove that the Empire of Sunset City harbours such intentions, we should still remain alert. Given the cunning nature of the Sunset City, it’s quite plausible. Only they could gather so many Dark Magicians to attack our Mage Guild. Aldos, you must be cautious! The Dark Province of the Empire of Sunset City borders your Province of Light. If a war breaks out, this place will be on the front lines. I should return to the Guild now, to manage the agitated Guild mbers. I hope you can deploy so troops to protect us. I’ll imdiately issue orders in my capacity as Chairman to gather the scattered mages within the Empire, preparing for any situation."

Aldos nodded, "Alright, then I’ll not keep you any longer. I’ll report this matter to His Majesty as soon as possible, and we’ll await his decision. Also, Brother Kary, if there’s a chance, I’d like to et the swordsman from the Tian Gang Sword Sect who saved you."
