Several kiloters away, Nick felt sothing locking onto his position.

The thing was behind a mountain.

Nick imdiately transmitted the location to the Champion's glasses.

But he didn't react.

"It's waiting," the Champion transmitted. "It's very careful."

Sure enough, no attack arrived.

The thing just kept staying behind the mountain.

Nick got more ti to sense the object, and due to the proximity, he could make out an outline.

He couldn't see the body with clarity, but he could tell that the object had the rough shape of a human.

But it also didn't completely have the appearance of a human.

There were many irregularities in its appearance.

Nick refined the image down to the silhouette.

When the Champion saw the human outline, he was surprised.

That was more accurate than he had expected.

As they waited, Nick tried to find forms that fit the irregularities in its appearance.

Nothing seed to really fit.

Then, he subconsciously thought of the aliens, and the image fit much better.

However, it still wasn't really accurate.

It was like there were many more and much finer tentacles everywhere.

Finally, Nick thought of sothing, and it fit perfectly!

He sent the new image to the Champion, and the Champion now saw the Envious Researcher clearly.

A human nervous system.

It was a brain attached to a floating nervous system.

By fighting the Envious Researcher many tis, the Shields knew that it had many small tentacles that launched attacks, but they were never able to truly see them.

So seconds later, one of the nerves extended and ca out from behind the mountain.

Nick's ability told him where the nerve was, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't see it.

He knew its exact location but still couldn't see it.

That was terrifying.

The nerve slowly moved towards Aegis' headquarters.

BOOOOM!

As soon as it ca within 500 ters of the researchers, the Champion of Light swung his sword, and a crescent of sunlight shot at the nerve.

The nerve was cut off and vanished imdiately.

There was no trace of the nerve left.

Nobody saw it.

The Left Arm and the Technician jumped down to the researchers and stood in front of them.

However, the Envious Researcher didn't move from its position.

'It knows that we have sothing planned, and it wants to find out what it is,' Nick thought. 'It knows it is safe behind the mountain. Even if the Champion attacked right now, it would have enough ti to evade with so much distance between them.' 𝘙ãŊ∅ВĘꞨ

So seconds later, more nerves extended towards the researchers, and the Champion destroyed all of them.

Then, Nick saw the Envious Researcher sending a lot of its nerves into the ground.

They slowly went below Aegis' headquarters, and then…

They entered!

There was a hole in the building sowhere!

The Champion saw in his glasses how a network of nerves expanded throughout the entire building.

This told them that whenever the Envious Researcher had attacked in the past, it might not even have been inside the building!

Eventually, the nerves ca out of the main entrance and bolted for the researchers.

BANG!

The Champion destroyed the nerves and transmitted to the other Shields that it was inside the building.

Of course, he knew that it wasn't, but it had to seem like he was falling for the Envious Researcher's sche.

The Champion jumped down to the researchers and focused on the main entrance.

anwhile, Nick changed the image on the glasses into a transparent one that depicted the mountain behind him.

The next mont, more nerves ca out of the main entrance, and the Champion fought them off.

He had beco quite good at fighting the Envious Researcher over the years.

The avalanche of nerves continued for a couple of seconds before Nick sensed the main body moving.

Its nerves were still flooding out of the main entrance, but the main body was floating over the mountain.

Nick updated the image to show a net of nerves extending out of the main body.

The nerves stretched across the horizon and surrounded the building.

The Left Arm and the Technician didn't see any of that.

Without the glasses, the Champion also wouldn't know.

It ca closer.

And then, it stopped about a kiloter away.

All the nerves halted except for the ones inside the building.

The Envious Researcher was preparing.

The Champion calmly fought the nerves in the main entrance.

Suddenly, all the nerves moved forward.

The Champion launched an attack on the nerves coming out of headquarters.

Yet, at the sa ti, he turned around and pointed a finger at the Envious Researcher's main body.

An iridescent laser shot out.

BANG!

The laser hit the Envious Researcher's main body, but it didn't do any damage.

Instead, the laser dispersed into many chaotic light waves.

It was like a storm of electricity had appeared in the sky, except for the fact that it was just chaotic and colorful light.

As the light waves hit each other, a chaotic pattern erged, which perfectly outlined the Envious Researcher's body.

Naturally, all the nerves imdiately retreated, and the Envious Researcher started running.

But at the sa ti, shadows ca out of the Left Arm's body, and her eyes started to turn into black whirlpools.

Her hair extended and turned white.

anwhile, a three-dinsional whirlpool appeared around the place where the Envious Researcher was.

The Left Arm was the best Suppressor in the entire world.

However, her power was limited.

The Envious Researcher managed to get out of the whirlpool almost imdiately.

Yet, the difference between imdiately and almost imdiately at such a level of power was gigantic.

The Champion turned towards the whirlpool.

The light waves had already disappeared, and the Envious Researcher was invisible again.

However, for just an instant, the Envious Researcher was stuck in the air, inside the whirlpool.

Nick transmitted a clear image.

He transmitted a clear trajectory.

Almost imdiately was a long ti for people of their power, and the Envious Researcher moved slowly enough that Nick could send the image.

And the image depicted a very clear escape path that the Envious Researcher was following.

The Champion swung his sword.

A crescent of light shot at the Envious Researcher.

This was it!

This was their only strike!

All the cards were in their favor!

Everything from now on depended on the Champion!

If he wanted to miss, he would miss.

If he wanted to hit, he would hit.

It was all up to him.
