Days passed, and soon the island industries had also stabilized. Whether it was the production of salt or capturing of sea life, they could project that they could now produce enough for the two territories.
A little more developnt and it could also supply the Capitol and the Peace base as well.
That said, they had been creating fish ponds and even bigger salt pans.
They were set to be the world’s biggest exporter of these resources, and it was estimated crystals would rain the island soon!
In any case, the island was really a peaceful oasis compared to those in the mainland.
While the island was stable, a lot of the zombies had also upgraded during this ti and most of the territories had experienced another wave of attacks.
The two n had delegated much of their power to trusted people, in order to be closer to her, but there were tis where they were needed not just for strength but also montum.
So the past few days, they went back to make sure things were okay.
They arrived at the sa ti though and—not willing to lose to the other—they ended up agreeing on sharing the night.
She was lounging with her books in her reading area when the door opened to show two handso contrasting n approached her.
Kylo looked a little awkward but Hugo imdiately went in to kiss her. "We heard you roleplayed a lot while we were away," he said, a playful smile gracing his face.
"Why don’t you play with us, too?"

"Good job, agent," Agent Hugo said as he congratulated her for a job well done. "We will be sending the reward money shortly. Your country thanks you."
Khalifa gave a wry smile and nodded. "I’d like to be alone now, please."
Hugo’s eyes fixed on her for a while, before standing up to leave her as she wished. However, he ended up turning around, his eyes not leaving her face at all.
She didn’t look too well, her eye bags were larger and she was pale as if she had lost a lot of blood. Her soft lips—one he had always wanted to taste while they were in the academy—were parched.
He knew she had been suffering the past few days, and it made Hugo’s body feel hot in annoyance. Did betraying that man hurt her so much?!
He was her handler on this secret mission to get close to the Mafia Don, Kylo. She had been feeding them good information, information that they had been trying to obtain for years.
She had done her job well, but he could sense a subtle change in her as she spent more ti with that man.
After a few months, her voice would soften at the ntion of the man. There would even be tis where she’d rationalize for him!
It sparked a new emotion in him—jealousy.
However, always bound by duty, he had kept himself rational to so degree, and fortunately Khalifa still managed to do her part and let them get enough to finally put the Don behind bars.
He heaved a deep breath as he walked over. She flinched when she saw the man—her handler—loom over her.
"You did a very good job, Khalifa," Hugo repeated, but this ti with much more sincerity.
Khalifa pursed her lips and her bright blue eyes lined with tears. Hugo’s tanned hands rubbed her tears away, and it sent warmth to her body.
To be honest, there had always been a subtle attraction between the two of them even while they were in the academy.
They would often spar together or practice shooting together, and there were plenty of near-kisses that didn’t continue simply because Hugo was a playboy and she didn’t want to be one of the won he got into a scandal with.
She was extrely surprised when he volunteered to be her handler on this mission.
She could always hear the concern on his voice during the few tis she could hear it, and—at least at first— those had been the few points of comfort in that perilous mission.
But she got in contact with Kylo, a dark and handso man who was known to kill at a blink of an eye. She saw this herself, but then he would show occasional bouts of kindness that confused her.
The more she knew of him, the more she learned of his motivations and complexities, and she found herself softening.
She learned he was just not a cold blooded killer but a man rely forced there by family and circumstance.
Unlike those other n in the sa position, Kylo had always shown rcy when needed and he never did anything ’evil’ for the sake of doing it at all.
She didn’t know when it started, but her body would heat up when he was near, and her heart would clench when she heard his voice.
He would also open up to her a bit, tell her things she knew he would never let anyone else know.
She could feel it, the change between them. She knew she should’ve cut it as soon as she realized, but she couldn’t find the heart to do so.
However—bound by duty—she still reported everything necessary for her mission, and it broke her a little each ti.
The guilt was debilitating and she didn’t dare look at the aftermath. She simply abandoned and hid, not wanting to see the man’s face when he realized she had betrayed him.
It was keeping her awake at night, eating her up, and she, honestly, needed a bit of comfort right now.
So when Hugo leaned down a bit, their faces only an inch apart, she couldn’t find it in herself to reject him.
Rather, she found herself leaning forward a bit to feel his warmth.
"Khalifa… you worked hard for the country," he said, voice a little raspy, and lips lightly rubbing against hers.
"That comndation and that bit of money doesn’t seem enough," he paused, making her shiver as she felt his tongue trace over her lips. "Shall I add another reward?"
