The next morning, before they headed out, they talked about the deal with General Lee.
After all, the island would be able to produce more and more things. Even Hugo’s weapons would be going through only her (and maybe Kylo).
"We will be sending you a price list," Cauis, the economic/political spokesperson, said.
They hadn’t confird the productivity of the island yet and prices would naturally be based on that. However, they would certainly not be taking losses. After all, much of their productivity would need crystals.
In ti, when they got a lot of surplus, they might even be able to sell more of Khalifa’s system produce. They hadn’t studied it enough though and decided to send Sigmund one to study when they get back to the island in order not to give away her space.
Anyway, the ti to leave soon arrived and they headed towards the helipads. They were sent off by many of their friends, as well as a few others.
Earlier that day, a helicopter from Hugo arrived. It was a gift to Khalifa, and with this they could send back the helicopter to Kylo.
General Lee then cleared his throat and asked to keep it in Peace Base, and he’d just send a letter to Kylo.
General Lee looked at the helicopters in longing, cursing the other general for destroying perfectly good helicopters as well.
The n looked at Khalifa, who shrugged, and that was that.
When they approached, the machine’s pilot ca down to greet them. Her na was Susana, a middle-aged badass woman who had many scars.
Khalifa smiled at her, knowing this was one of Hugo’s trusted individuals. Looking at the woman’s burn scars, she also had an idea why Hugo would send the woman specifically to her, a healer.
"Hello Miss Khalifa," she said respectfully, before turning to the other n. "And n."
n: "..."
"Master Hugo asked to send a letter to you," she said, and Khalifa opened it as it was handed to her.
Her lips twitched.
Basically, the first half was a declaration of undying love, and of how he would be debilitated at the thought that she was not nearby.
The business part was only at the final paragraph, where he said more about the machine.
It was a state-of-the-art model that Hugo modified himself. He wanted to drive it to her, but he unfortunately promised a lot of weapons to Kylo so he couldn’t leave.
"It’s sad you couldn’t stay for a longer ti," Helen said as they said their goodbyes. The older woman held one of her hands, while another one held on her other arm.
The other n could only step back as Khalifa was hounded by a few won to say their goodbyes.
Among the people who were sending them off were Ryo and Helen, Claire and Chris, the General, and many others.
This included their old classmates and a lot of random people around, hoping to see off the ’heroes’.
There would also be a few people who would be coming with them to the island. Mr. Bo and his daughter, in particular, would be helping them out with managing the base.
"Well, we can co visit each other sotis…" Khalifa said and Helen could only sigh and let go.
At this ti, the woman holding her other arm pulled her a bit, making Khalifa blink.
"Can’t I co with you?" Claire asked, looking very nourished and cute. "I will be very helpful."
Claire was very attached to Khalifa, understandably so. Claire not only genuinely liked Khalifa and felt comfort being near her, she also knew she could master her ability—and therefore help more people—if she stuck with Khalifa.
Khalifa’s eyebrows rose and she looked behind the pregnant woman to et Chris’s eyes. He sent her a defeated smile, and it was obvious that he had tried (and failed) to convince Claire to do otherwise.
The silver-haired woman shook her head as she patted the girl’s back. "We don’t have an obgyn yet, and they’re more needed here where there are and will be thousands of won."
"Take care of yourself," she said, "And don’t forget the breathing exercises I taught you."
Claire nodded reluctantly, letting go and back to Chris’s arms.
Khalifa’s eyes followed the lovers before ending up at the couple next to them. Her orbs then t Laura’s, who awkwardly nodded at her, before turning away with a blush.
Her boyfriend, Howard, rubbed the girl’s head which in turn made her glare at him, but that flush on her face betrayed her shyness.
The sight made Khalifa giggle. At so point, it seed that these two’s relationship had finally progressed, just as it was in the book.
She smiled and turned, ready to join her n and headed to the helicopter. However, on the way there, she saw Sigmund standing near the door.
She stared at him, feeling a little reluctant to part with this specin.
Their eyes t and he turned to face her a bit. Her eyebrows rose. Was he waiting for her?
Then she rembered he was indeed waiting for a couple of things from her.
"Your things should arrive tomorrow," she told him even before he said anything.
In order not to cause suspicion, they told him his laboratory equipnt would be delivered within a few days.
"That’s not what I’m here for," he said, but he just stared at her after that, not explaining anything else.
??
Khalifa was confused. Was she supposed to read his mind or sothing?
The other n saw the two staring at each other ’longingly’ and decided to intervene.
Kaize’s hand imdiately wrapped around her flat stomach, and pulled her flush his chest. Jacob stepped forward, while Cauis went to talk to him about the ’arrangents’ of his lab equipnt.
Sigmund frowned. He was generally indifferent to people, but these three n had long entered the negative scale of his perceptions.
Before he could open his mouth though, a new group of people arrived. "Wait, Miss Fei and friends!" A voice exclaid from the side, and the tension amongst the group dissipated as they turned to look at the newcors.
They were a bit of domineering and people ended up making way for them like a wave.
Khalifa and the others looked at them and their frowns, and she wondered if they were there to see them off or sothing else.
Looking at their arrogant faces though, they didn’t seem to be here for anything good.
