Chapter 2108: Chapter 2108: On the Birth of Religion
After leaving that religious sanctuary, Xu Huo finally figured out what had happened.
After he disappeared from the engineer’s house, the Girl in the Painting went all around Jiguanhua City searching for him. However, it was difficult for her to communicate, and without a photo of Xu Huo, she could only give a vague description of him. Based on her description, everyone in the city resembled the person she was looking for. Moreover, people were unwilling to help her without reason, so she used the money Xu Huo had given her to pay people to aid her search.
Initially, she offered that anyone who had seen Xu Huo and inford her could receive more money.
Then, more people ca to claim the money. As the crowd grew, it was too ti-consuming to explain in detail, so she hired soone to help her explain, condensing the ssage to just "Find Passerby A."
After spreading the word for a few days, people voluntarily ca to help. They even made a sculpture based on her description to help those claiming the money recognize the target more accurately.
Afterwards, the search process evolved into people coming to claim money, and the Girl in the Painting would point at the statue and ask if they knew this person.
At first, everything was normal. Everyone knew she was looking for soone, so those claiming the money would willingly say they’d inform her if they saw that person. But as more people queued up, those at the back didn’t know much and just followed the lead of those in front, simply saying "know, understand" when receiving money. Over ti, the Girl in the Painting grew a bit annoyed, so the content on the communicator beca a simple inquiry:
"You know, right?"
Her intention included the entire process of finding the person and notifying her, but as the story spread among the common citizens, it gradually turned into a large-scale religious initiation ceremony. Thus, within a week, statues and images of the indistinct-faced Xu Huo quickly spread through Jiguanhua City, with many people worshiping him.
"The developnt of events completely disregarded my wishes as the person involved." The Girl in the Painting didn’t understand why, after spending several boxes of White Notes, Xu Huo ended up as a religious leader, and many people ca to her with money and houses, expressing willingness to worship without compensation, only requesting the title of a church emissary.
"Why are they acting like this?" The Girl in the Painting was puzzled, "I just wanted to find soone."
"Perhaps they can only hear what they want to hear." Xu Huo said.
The Girl in the Painting didn’t understand the deeper aning, but she got the literal aning of "hearing what one wants to hear." She was sowhat conflicted for a mont, "Though I also like to hear nice things, I did give them money. They promised well enough when taking the money, so why did they forget once they turned around?"
"Because everyone interprets agreents and promises differently. So people take things seriously and keep their promises, willing to spend ti and effort for a commitnt. Others find it indifferent; whether or not they respect or keep promises isn’t crucial to them and doesn’t affect their life or peace of mind. Whether in real life or inner tranquility." Xu Huo had already led her to the other side of the city.
The Girl in the Painting nodded, sowhat understanding, and then asked, "If no one keeps their promises, then serious people might stop keeping them, right? After all, it’s like being deceived. I was deceived, and I definitely won’t easily give money to others in the future."
"It’s okay, we’re not short on money recently." Xu Huo stopped outside a yard. A ntally ill woman was asleep against the door fra, with new cloth wrapped around the chain binding her. The old man wasn’t there, perhaps he had gone out.
He placed a tal badge picked up from Pumpkin City on the yard’s fence.
The Girl in the Painting rembered the badge appearing in a family photo of the woman. She followed Xu Huo and asked, "Is her son dead?"
Xu Huo didn’t answer the question but nodded slightly at the shopkeeper sunbathing at the door.
The shopkeeper’s face was still all smiles, "Co back and visit whenever you can."
Soon, the two left Jiguanhua City — Although it had been renad now, it wouldn’t be long before it embraced a brand-new na again.
Shortly after leaving the city, they encountered ng Wenguang and his two companions, who were also leaving the city. When they t, ng Wenguang and the others still rembered Xu Huo, but their deanor was not as favorable as it was in Pumpkin City, with a sense of vigilance amid the unfamiliarity.
"Do you rember anything after 9:17?" Xu Huo asked.
The three obviously didn’t rember. ng Wenguang hesitated, "Do we have any grudges?"
"No grudges." Xu Huo smiled slightly, "In the future, there won’t be any mysterious player disappearances in Jiguanhua City."
The three did not understand but knew they had entered a place similar to an instance. Although more than ten days had passed, they only rembered the part in the abandoned city. They didn’t know what happened afterwards and naturally wouldn’t believe everything Xu Huo said.
"See you again if destiny allows." Xu Huo nodded to them and then used the Teleportation Prop with the Girl in the Painting to go to another city.
Zone C11-011 hosts not just post stations of nurous faiths, but from the customs of cities near these nurous faith stations, one could discern the general ethos of the division. People here are combative and energetic, with advanced players springing up in numbers. Thus, they still retain two famous battle sites, where it is said that soone once comprehended the path to Secondary Evolution, and it remains a must-visit spot for Outer Zone players coming here.
There is a city protection barrier outside the city, and advanced players guard the city gates from within. Outer Zone players aren’t permitted direct entry into the city; they must undergo inspection procedures at the city gate.
"Enclosing such a large site outside the city and claiming the site is open to players from any division for free is nothing but a sche to make money." Not every player can line up without complaint.
"There’s no charge to enter the city." A local player in the queue said with slight annoyance, "Whether you’re local or from the Outer Zone, everyone must be inspected when entering the city."
"What’s the point?" The complaining player said, "How much ti is wasted on this? I’ve been in line for an hour."
The local player in the queue wasn’t bothered to respond, but soon the Outer Zone players realized what the inspection was for. Two players were pulled out of the queue by the patrol team, with no words wasted on them. They called several people, and heavy hands were laid on them, even with local players voluntarily helping.
Initially, when they saw these individuals chasing and blocking the two Outer Zone players, there was so commotion in the line, but as an Outer Zone player shouted, "I’m not a Cannibal Player," the players from Zone 011 directly pinned him down, wiping off the special paint on his number, revealing the original red number:
"Cannibal Players must never be allowed into Peace City! Any Cannibal Players, kill one for each that cos!"
The Peace City player leader shouted loudly, and then, in front of everyone, slit the Cannibal Player’s throat!
anwhile, another Cannibal Player was luckier, using Tickets to escape along with a few people from the line.
"Why does this division hate Cannibal Players so much?" An Outer Zone player asked.
