Chapter 1938: Chapter 1938: Skill Breeds Courage

Xu Huo was forcibly made to work for a day and night and was released only when it dawned again.

The investigation regarding the frozen processing plant is basically concluded here. During this period, besides necessary inspections of the factory, the Supervision Departnt also screened everyone who had contact with Manager Dian because of the Eastern District Players’ involvent. Therefore, the nightclub owner and Knife Boss were both subjects of the investigation, and both were forcibly taken away, but only Knife Boss returned.

Manager Dian died in the explosion, and the player accompanying him was not an Advanced Player himself. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been guarding the factory, so he fled quickly, leaving Manager Dian without anyone to care for, leading directly to his end. The nightclub owner seed to have gone down with him, unfortunately losing the clue of weapon trade. With the nightclub owner’s death, it is feared that these Dark Forces in the Western District will behave for a while, with no one attempting to purchase weapons anymore.

Of course, Knife Boss kept silent after returning, thoroughly avoiding ntion of what happened after being taken away. However, not long after, the residence of the middleman who bridged Manager Dian and the nightclub owner was turned over, and almost all of the middleman’s apprentices were caught; the one who escaped did so because the Resistance Army active nearby provided him with a hiding place.

From these two arrest operations, Xu Huo managed to glimpse the Eastern District Players’ law enforcent thods. As he expected, spatial instrunts restricting players’ movents are basic. Probably because the ones caught were ordinary people, the instrunts they brought weren’t of high level. Apart from that, almost every player wore a tal ball, which would spin rapidly and emit a high-pitched sound upon activation, capable of causing fainting within a second or two, while Eastern District Players seed unaffected.

In reality, the effect of this sound attack was unusually good—not only did it affect players near the arrest scene, it even influenced Xu Huo from afar, though it’s uncertain whether it had a ntal interference effect—if it did, then Eastern District might have completed a Sword’s-style Evolution in weapons and instrunts.

In cities like Eye of Platinum, which live by weapons, various hot weapons and New Energy Weapons are the focus. Spatial Instrunts aren’t ineffective; they might just be restricted by other Space-Ti Items or instrunts, preventing people from betting solely on them. During their actions, Eastern District Players sowhat blur the strength of the players themselves, preferring to use convenient and quick instrunts rather than handling things personally.

Subsequent matters have little relation to the Supervision Departnt, which, having been forced to work hard for two days, had no energy to stir up more trouble, simply granting everyone a holiday to go ho and rest.

But under such circumstances, how many people dare go ho, are they not afraid of having their heads chopped off while sleeping soundly?

Xu Huo prepared to leave.

"You really are brave and bold," Han Cong said, insinuatingly, considering Wang Kai just died.

Xu Huo was slightly troubled, having no choice but to divulge that he sheltered a pitiful person, "I’m worried she’s in danger at ho alone."

"It’s a woman, right?" Lin Guang said with a knowing look, "These days, who dares pick up n randomly on the street? But I advise you to be cautious, don’t get too serious, lest you get dragged down yourself."

Xu Huo hesitated a bit, saying, "She truly is pitiful."

"Who in the Western District isn’t pitiful? Pitiful people are hateful!" Brother Tong abruptly interjected, speaking almost through gritted teeth while abusing Western District civilians.

He was an old Inspector with so clout in the Supervision Departnt, so Lin Guang hurriedly smiled a couple of tis, indicating he would have a good talk with Xu Huo.

Brother Tong didn’t care about their attitude, nor about any misunderstanding between them, only saying, "Good people don’t live long; let’s see how long you can last."

These words made not only Xu Huo himself but also the two eavesdroppers uncomfortable.

"We’re all colleagues here; let’s not make the atmosphere so tense," Lin Guang dragged Xu Huo away, and sent him out the door.

Along went Han Cong, who had a disabled brother that he had to care for.

"Can’t tell what grudge he has against the Western District people, he won’t even give his colleagues face," Han Cong complained.

Xu Huo took the opportunity while working to inquire about this matter with other inspectors, discovering it’s essentially a story of inviting wolves in, except Brother Tong paid a severe price. Everyone he lost was killed, not sparing even the few-year-old children, with the culprit being a boy he cared for and treated.

Such examples aren’t uncommon in the Western District; not everyone is born lacking compassion. Inspectors from the Western District who wish to change the environnt and do sothing for its people do exist; only people with passion are more likely to be hurt by events and human nature, and the cost of betrayal is not sothing everyone can bear.

Xu Huo stood at the door with food, hadn’t yet taken out his keys when the mute girl opened the door first, nervously revealing a Smiley Face.

Xu Huo handed her the things he carried, glancing at the cold kitchen as he passed by, "You didn’t cook your own als?"

When called to work overti through the night, he gave the mute girl so money for cooking her own als.

The mute girl pointed to her belly, indicating she wasn’t hungry.

Guessing she likely didn’t dare to cook, he said, "Bought a pound of fresh at. Do you know how to cook it?"

The mute girl nodded repeatedly, turning into the kitchen to start working.

Xu Huo hadn’t sat for long before a man downstairs started beating his child again. The little boy initially cried out, but soon only low sobs remained.

After checking his gun, Xu Huo got up and walked downstairs, directly approaching the man’s door and kicking it open wide, stepping boldly inside.

"Who are you... what are you doing... let go of !" The man was grabbed by the back of the neck and dragged into the hallway; Xu Huo slamd him on the ground hard, not giving him a chance to get up, and directly targeted his stomach.

The man scread continuously from the kicks, unable to utter any harsh words, finally only resorting to begging for rcy.

Seeing him barely able to move, Xu Huo approached him, squatted down, and stared at him, "If you’re so capable, why target a child?"

The man’s mouth remained stubborn, "I’m beating my son; what’s it to you... That brat was born rebellious, he needs to be beaten! At three years old, he dared to stab his mother with a knife—if not for him, my wife wouldn’t have run away!"

The "rebellious" son erged, clutching a knife with a chipped edge, looking no older than seven or eight, eyes glazed as he ignored everyone else and directly thrust it towards his father!

Xu Huo intercepted him, the boy restrained by his grip but didn’t drop the knife, struggling and directing heart-wrenching screams at the man, his face filled with hate, causing the man to flinch, then as though finding proof, he said to Xu Huo, "Look, look at that, a thing that kills father and mother, how can he not be beaten? You help him, aren’t you afraid he’ll stab you in the back one day?"
