Capítulo 1854: Chapter 1854: Sample No. 93

Chang Shoujie’s expression imdiately froze. Just as he was about to say sothing, Xu Huo motioned Gao Dawei to push him back and admonished, “Don’t let your uncle co out and talk nonsense.”

As the spiritual power enveloped the area, the view between the two buildings beca unclear. It seed that Chang Shoujie, unable to leave, had fallen, toppling the wheelchair along with the room’s table, causing a series of clatters.

Black Under the Light pondered, “Did Chang Shoujie signal the people downstairs?”

“Who knows,” Xu Huo said. “They’re acquaintances and once worked together, knowing so special codes isn’t surprising.”

Black Under the Light wasn’t foolish. If the newborn really existed, Chang Shoujie only needed to honestly inform the players of Zone 010. Why secretly signal?

Though he didn’t explicitly say it, he couldn’t help but comnt, “Are we going this big?”

If they indeed had the child, all would be well. Once the task is done and the child is handed over, the people from Zone 010 would not bother them further. But if not, and they couldn’t clear the level, wouldn’t they be stuck in this ghostly place with these people until they died?

“To clear the level, this is already a relatively quick thod.” Xu Huo said blandly.

If not for Dr. Deng leaking Dr. Joyce’s information, rely confirming lissa’s whereabouts and origin would have taken a long ti; this was already a shortcut.

From the luggage compartnt, Xu Huo retrieved the analytical instrunt, checked that the progress was over halfway, then made room to bring out the refuge, preparing to check the docunts that had co out.

“Hey, aren’t you taking her inside?” Black Under the Light hurriedly reached out to stop him, his eyes fixed on the person on the bed beside him.

“You keep an eye on her.” Xu Huo closed the door without turning his head.

Black Under the Light maintained a certain distance from Little Pink Hat, but his gaze never shifted from her. Though curious, he refrained from moving closer. Instead, a lollipop rolling out from the bundle made him pause. He then saw a poorly-skinned arm quickly reaching out to grab the lollipop back, crunching it noisily.

Despite being a living child, Black Under the Light wasn’t too surprised; acquiring a child from other zones wasn’t difficult. But he found it odd that there was a child starting to degenerate at such a young age, and the child was extrely quiet, managing to stay hidden in a cloth while awake.

“Plop!” A lollipop flew out from the bundle, hitting Black Under the Light.

Black Under the Light picked it up. “Is this for ?”

A small hand erged from the cloth, pointing to him and then itself.

Black Under the Light imdiately understood, unwrapped the candy, and handed the lollipop back. Little Pink Hat patted his hand encouragingly, crunched the candy in a few bites, then offered him a second one.

Black Under the Light had no other thoughts, rely finding the child’s teeth quite good.

Inside the refuge, Xu Huo had finished reading Dr. Joyce’s textual files.

There wasn’t much content, just a few detailed reports on embryo developnt, among which the data on Sample 93 was most detailed. From the details, it was evident that the other reports were used for comparison with Sample 93.

The report stated that indeed, Dr. Joyce conducted hybrid experints with humans and Aliens. However, instead of using humans or Aliens to conceive embryos, an artificial womb was used to create the optimal environnt for embryo developnt, thus allowing the embryo to grow successfully.

In the ga world, the artificial womb technology was already very advanced. Ordinary citizens in Zone 019, where Xu Huo had been before, could use this technology for reproduction. Zone 010 people weren’t suitable for bearing children not only due to problems with both parties but also due to environntal issues. Thus, Dr. Joyce adopted this thod of gestation detached from the maternal body.

The examples in these reports involved retrieving eggs from people with degeneration and sperm from normal people, with no other samples, indicating a relatively high success rate for this model.

What set Sample 93 apart from other samples was the genetic mutation she had. According to Dr. Joyce’s analysis, this genetic mutation inhibited the Black Thorn disease to so extent, aning that even after other embryo samples had grown, they beca nearly Alien, still susceptible to Black Thorn disease. However, the disease wasn’t as apparent on Aliens as it was on humans.

Sample 93, on the other hand, was different. Her genetic test results showed that a part of her genetic mutation effectively inhibited the Black Thorn disease. If the genetic test results remained unchanged after Sample 93 reached one year of age, it would prove that this experint indeed created a genetic sample where Black Thorn disease no longer manifested.

Of course, these cultivated “Alien children,” in a sense, could be considered the next generation for Zone 010.

Putting aside whether these Aliens were the successfully cultivated next generation, the report ntioned that the genetic mutation in Sample 93 was accidental, because no subsequent samples identical to Sample 93 were born despite having edited nearly identical embryos.

Given the embryo’s growth state, it was obviously challenging to experint with whether such genes could be inherited.

At this ti, the communicator lit up.

“Is it done?” Xu Huo imdiately connected.

“Not yet,” Dr. Deng said. “However, I determined that this sample is a discarded one because there’s a strong pathogenic gene in its geno. Any organism carrying this gene tends to die easily from various disease infections, sothing that doesn’t happen to ordinary people. It was first discovered in a zone that had just begun to evolve, due to a genetic mutation caused by evolution. Many in that zone exhibited this mutation, and before the correct etiology was identified for prevention, the death toll was enormous. Moreover, it was hereditary, resulting in a catastrophic outco you can probably imagine.”

“So this sample is at least not a successful one.”

Xu Huo frowned, “But a certain genetic mutation in this sample can suppress the onset of Black Thorn disease.”

“Two years have passed, and the mutant you ntioned carrying the pathogenic gene hasn’t died.”

Dr. Deng frowned as well, “Did he conduct gene editing? This shouldn’t be possible.”

Once the ga world as a whole began evolving, human genetic editing almost consistently failed. It wasn’t that no one considered achieving more powerful and perfect players through this thod, but evolution itself was unpredictable. Even if scientists knew every cell and gene, children edited to specification would still undergo irreversible changes during growth. Many inexplicable new diseases were trivial, at most resulting in the death of so experintal samples, but so children would have cognitive issues, turning them into ti bombs.

“Gene editing is prohibited at any Wormhole Point. Where did he get the equipnt for gene editing?”

“It’s possible he’s a genius who can accomplish it without advanced equipnt,” Xu Huo said.
