Chapter 1476: Chapter 1477: Poisoned to Death

"A small favor." Xin Rong didn’t refuse and helped them secure those props.

Not only were the short-haired woman and her group aiming for props, but they also acquired almost all of the rare potions presented at the auction. They frequently consulted with their partners outside, purchasing a wide variety, making it seem less like a group of people buying equipnt together and more like they were stocking up.

The total price of the items they acquired was quite high, even Xin Rong was a bit surprised—primarily concerned about whether they could pay. Luckily, the baby-faced person sensed the situation and prepaid half of the cost.

Seeing their substantial resources, Xin Rong couldn’t help but suggest, "The items that make it to the auction are standard props. If you have enough money, you might want to check out the underground market. There, you’ll find lots of items with unknown origins and high destructive power."

Generally, props made by sowhat ethical Artifact Makers follow the rules. Their goal is to create a useful tool, not a murder weapon. For example, props that attack indiscriminately or cover a large area can have toxic substances added during creation. Pollutants, toxins, or even radioactive materials can be included, but most Artifact Makers won’t do this. First, it’s hard to gain ga approval and there are so risks in the production itself. Second, such thods seem excessively vicious. Player battles often involve others, using these could lead to more severe consequences.

For those in the ga, life and death is the norm, yet many still sympathize with the innocent—this also reflects the ga’s constraints on players.

The ga’s intent may not be to preserve a player’s human baseline but to control players through such ans, and things taken to their extres will reverse. The ga’s survival environnt is already very harsh. Many struggle in the ga only to provide a better life for their family and friends. Hope is slim, but without it, more players may join groups like the Holy Sword Society to resist the ga.

Of course, the Holy Sword Society has such Artifact Makers, and even the Artifact Makers on the leaderboard sotis create more dangerous props—though they don’t sell them openly, after all, the society’s original business was precision instrunts. The city’s people live comfortably because of this, so they naturally reject unscrupulous people and things. As a result, so of these props appear only in the underground market.

However, when preparing to buy this type of prop, players typically don’t feel much guilt.

After receiving the hint, the short-haired woman and the baby-faced person quickly discussed with their companions outside and paused their extravagant purchases. Apart from a few particularly valued props, they kept silent in other cases, seemingly saving their money for the underground market.

Xin Rong turned back to ask if Xu Huo was interested, but Xu Huo brought up the toxin incident from the train.

"He’d rather watch his compatriots suffer than trade potions with you, just to keep the pollutants from spreading?" Xin Rong was a bit taken aback, and sowhat admiring, he paused and said, "Actually, I encountered a situation like this once, where soone sought revenge against an enemy by deliberately contaminating a water source, leading to half the city’s pollution, and tens of thousands dying in just a few days."

"In fact, that person only wanted to kill one family, but because the enemy was powerful, he was forced to use such thods... who knows where he found such a potent pollutant. Pollutants, toxins, or other germs, when diluted massively in water, weaken in effect. Cases killing tens of thousands are extrely rare."

"Highly infectious pollutants and germs aren’t as easy to control as regular props," Xu Huo nodded. "Once they spread, who knows how many will die directly or indirectly."

Xin Rong smiled slightly, and suddenly said, "People who wield swords with bare hands are often more likely to be injured by the sword. The more effective the pollutants and toxins, the higher the risk for the holder, since other players can’t resist them, and the holder himself might not be able to resist either. It’s best if none of us uses them."

The short-haired woman and the baby-faced person exchanged glances, and the forr said with slight envy, "It’s really great to beco strong in the ga. My companions and I co from the sa district, and our district just started evolving. The governnt didn’t control the Evolvers in ti, leading to the rise of cannibals, causing chaos in the district. Governnts around the world suffered heavily, and couldn’t spare anyone to purchase equipnt. They could only entrust us, the first to beco players, with these tasks."

"Mr. Xu probably saw through it, even though I am a Rank-C Player, I mostly bought my way here, and I don’t even dare to co to the Eye of Platinum alone to buy props. For us, principles and bottom lines can be put aside temporarily; survival cos first."

"Sotis, when entering an instance, I worry if another country is at war when we co out, or if my family is killed, and my hotown becos a hunting ground for cannibals."

"It’s essential for people to have a high moral standard, at least ensuring safety for life and property." Xin Rong chid in, nodding in agreent, "I hope every ga district can be like the Eye of Platinum."

People’s encounters differ, thinking behavior differs, and their final choices, too, will differ. It’s hard to delineate clear right from wrong.

In reality, it’s impossible to clearly explain right or wrong.

Xu Huo did not comnt on the short-haired woman’s words and continued focusing on the auction. At that mont, two waiters ca in, carrying wine and drinks, "This is a snack gift for you all."

A cup of purple fruit wine was placed beside Xu Huo.

"Today, I’m enjoying the company of friends who have co a long way," Xin Rong raised a glass towards the short-haired woman and the baby-faced person.

Xu Huo also lifted his glass, but after just one sip, his face changed dramatically, and he imdiately said, "Don’t drink!"

Almost simultaneously, his lips changed color, and seeing this, Xin Rong quickly made himself vomit and poured antitoxin into his mouth. The players responsible for his safety and the Law Enforcent Team players surrounded them, quickly performing ergency asures.

Unfortunately, the potion didn’t take effect quickly enough. Even though Xin Rong and the short-haired woman induced vomiting in ti, the toxic reactions began spreading rapidly on their faces and necks, especially the short-haired woman. Those without wine prioritized securing Xu Huo and Xin Rong. She and her companion had to take care of themselves. A little delay, or maybe the lack of a sufficient antitoxin, caused the short-haired woman to start vomiting when the Law Enforcent Team administered the new antitoxin, and the baby-faced one wasn’t in much better shape, seizing and unable to do anything more. With a bit of remaining reason, he reached toward Xu Huo and the others while lying on the ground.

Xu Huo’s symptoms were the mildest, and seeing Xin Rong recover, he quickly approached the short-haired woman and the baby-faced person, taking out injectors and thrusting them into their necks.
