Ti ticked away by the minute and second, and Bodhisattva Guanyin also waited quietly on her side, waiting for Xuanzang and his companions to co and seek her help to resolve the tribulation of the Drought Demon.
In her idle hands, Bodhisattva Guanyin took out the Calamity Book to glance over.
Indeed, there was one more tribulation listed in the Calamity Book.
The thirty-first tribulation, the tribulation of the Drought Demon.
"So it seems, Xuanzang and his companions have already reached Wowo Village. It looks like the day when he cos to seek my assistance is not far off!" Seeing that one more tribulation had been added to the Calamity Book, Bodhisattva Guanyin nodded to herself, her heart filled with a contented anticipation.
However, this wait turned out to be a long one, as there was completely no movent from Xuanzang's side, which made Bodhisattva Guanyin feel a secret sense of surprise.
What's going on? Aren't they coming to to resolve the Drought Demon's crisis? Could it be that they are seeking help from soone else?
With a flicker of thought, Bodhisattva Guanyin turned her gaze towards the team undertaking the Journey to the West to acquire Scriptures, instructing the Pearl Holding Dragon Lady to find out what was the current situation of the scripture-seeking team.
After a brief investigation, the Pearl Holding Dragon Lady soon returned.
"Reporting to the Bodhisattva, Xuanzang and his companions have left Wowo Village for quite a few days now, and furthermore, the drought situation in Wowo Village has been resolved. It has been raining heavily for seven or eight days straight!" Before Bodhisattva Guanyin, the Pearl Holding Dragon Lady relayed the information she had gathered.
"Impossible!" Upon hearing the news from the Pearl Holding Dragon Lady, Bodhisattva Guanyin's face changed instantly.
The presence of the Drought Demon, whose strength was comparable to that of a Quasi-Saint, had been sealed near Wowo Village, and without a doubt, no one should have been able to move the Drought Demon.
But if the Drought Demon was not relocated, how could it possibly have rained in Wowo Village?
And, more importantly, where was the Drought Demon?
For the Buddhist Sect, the Drought Demon was an important asset, a being nearly of Quasi-Saint level, personally captured by the Saint himself.
If it was lost, how could they possibly explain it?
Considering this, Bodhisattva Guanyin beca sowhat restless and imdiately rose, preparing to visit the cave where the Drought Demon was concealed to check on the situation.
Just then, at that mont, the childlike Yuanling appeared before Bodhisattva Guanyin, saying, "Bodhisattva, soone has co from outside. He claims to be dicine King Buddha and wishes to see the Bodhisattva!"
"dicine King Buddha? Bring him in quickly!" Hearing the words of Yuanling, the Bodhisattva's expression changed slightly, her words urgent.
Soon, dicine King Buddha ca before Bodhisattva Guanyin, and they exchanged greetings.
"May I know the reason that dicine Buddha graces my Purple Bamboo Forest with his presence?"
After exchanging greetings, with an eager heart to check on the situation of the Drought Demon, Bodhisattva Guanyin did not beat around the bush and asked directly.
"Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, I have co today with a matter to seek your counsel on!"
Also foregoing any unnecessary chatter, dicine King Buddha's face did not look well as he said, "Regarding the tribulation in Wowo Village, I have so knowledge about it. I was moved by the plight of the common people there, suffering imnsely. Therefore, I sent my disciple Liaokong to the Lower Realm to heal the injuries and diseases of those poor souls. However, after Xuanzang and his companions arrived in Wowo Village, the Life Lamp of my disciple Liaokong was extinguished!"
"Liaokong has died!?" Hearing this from dicine King Buddha, Bodhisattva Guanyin was inwardly shocked.
As a favored disciple of dicine King Buddha, Bodhisattva Guanyin was naturally aware of him; he possessed the cultivation level of Taiyi True Immortal. If possible, he was fully qualified for the revered position of a Bodhisattva.
And he had fallen?
It was over; the situation in Wowo Village was entirely out of her control now.
"Without concealnt, the truth is, I am not all that familiar with the situation in Wowo Village either!" With a face displaying hints of distress, Bodhisattva Guanyin shook her head as she spoke.
"Amitabha Buddha, but you are the coordinator of this Journey to the West. How can you not be aware?" Hearing Bodhisattva Guanyin's words, dicine King Buddha looked at her in astonishnt.
Clearly, he found it hard to believe her statent.
"Amitabha Buddha..." Facing the doubt in dicine King Buddha's eyes, Bodhisattva Guanyin felt a deep sense of bitterness in her heart.
No matter how much she tried to explain, it was evidently futile—after all, wasn't she responsible for the Journey to the West?
Moreover, had she not designed these tribulations herself? Yet, they had slipped out of her control.
"The matter of Wowo Village was originally like this..." After a brief mont of silence, Bodhisattva Guanyin succinctly explained the tribulation she had designed in Wowo Village to dicine King Buddha.
She had hidden the Drought Demon near Wowo Village, with miles of barren land, where no rain fell year-round. Naturally, as Xuanzang and his team passed by, they would be expected to show compassion.
Eventually, if they found the Drought Demon, they would exhaust all ans to resolve the issue, inevitably calling for the help of the heavens and the immortals.
Then, she would intervene, retrieving the Drought Demon herself, and that way, another tribulation would be added—wasn't that perfect?
"Alas, it seems things have deviated from my plans and turned quite terrible indeed!" After recounting and thereby explaining the situation, Bodhisattva Guanyin sighed heavily.
Given Bodhisattva Guanyin's plans, since dicine King Buddha had sent Liaokong to devise a healing potion, it was only natural that he was sowhat aware of them.
Nodding upon hearing this, he asked, "The situation is quite bad? To what extent, then?"
"The worst part is, I don't even know what the situation is like!" Shaking her head, Bodhisattva Guanyin sighed.
After saying this, Bodhisattva Guanyin then said to dicine King Buddha, "If dicine Buddha has the ti, perhaps we could go to Wowo Village to see for ourselves?"
Bodhisattva Guanyin truly did not know what the current situation was, and with no confidence in her heart, having dicine King Buddha accompany her would at least provide another witness.
If a situation arose that she did not want to see, reporting back to Tathagata with a witness would be possible.
To be honest, dicine King Buddha was well aware of what Bodhisattva Guanyin was thinking; he was unwilling to get involved in this matter.
Yet, as his most outstanding disciple had perished like this, could he really not go to see for himself? It would be hard to justify otherwise.
Therefore, after pondering silently for a mont, dicine Buddha nodded and agreed to go.
Without delay, dicine Buddha and Guanyin soared into the sky and swiftly flew towards Wowo Village.
Upon arrival at Wowo Village, Bodhisattva Guanyin indeed saw that it was raining, which made her brow furrow slightly.
Imdiately, she flew directly towards the cave where the Drought Demon had been hidden before.
However, upon reaching the location, Guanyin began to doubt if she had rembered the place wrongly.
For the cave where the Drought Demon was hidden? Not even the mountain was in sight—it had been completely razed to the ground, clearly having suffered a terrible fight.
It was over, now it was really over!
Seeing the scene before her, Guanyin, of course, realized what had happened and stood there, stunned.
The Drought Demon was ant to be a calamity for the Scripture Seeking Journey to the West; it was she who had lent it out. Now, with this ss, how was she supposed to explain herself?
It was like in modern society, soone wanting to impress at a matchmaking eting, so they borrowed a luxury car from a relative for show.
Who would have thought that in the blink of an eye, the luxury car would be lost, how could one possibly explain this?
"Sigh…"
Seeing the appearance of Bodhisattva Guanyin, dicine Buddha could also guess what had happened and looked at her with so sympathy before heaving another inward sigh.
With the situation having turned out this way, it seed Guanyin didn't know about Liaokong's death after all.
…
Western Spirit Mountain, Great Thunder Monastery.
Tathagata sat silently upon his Lotus Platform, uttering not a single word, his expression calm.
But the atmosphere throughout the Great Thunder Monastery had beco extrely solemn.
In front of Tathagata, Bodhisattva Guanyin hung her head, her heart filled with trepidation.
Having lost the Drought Demon, and even unaware of its life or death, Bodhisattva Guanyin knew she had committed an egregious error.
dicine Buddha stood on the side, silent, as this matter had no relation to him.
However, thinking of the missing Drought Demon, dicine Buddha inwardly sighed as well; this was a loss for the entire Buddhist Sect.
Tathagata's gaze swept over Guanyin.
Sensing Tathagata's piercing gaze, Bodhisattva Guanyin bowed her head even lower.
Without haste, Tathagata pondered the peculiar aspects of the situation in his mind.
Logically, the chains applied by the Buddhas of the Buddhist Sect should have been able to restrain the Drought Demon.
Moreover, to be on the safe side, he had personally inscribed a Buddhist Sutra to suppress it. Under such circumstances, it seed unlikely that anyone could have released the Drought Demon.
Most importantly, since he had personally written the Buddhist Sutra, had it been torn down, he would have definitely felt a response.
Unless the Buddhist Sutra was directly destroyed, in which case he would not sense anything.
But was that possible?
A Buddhist Sutra written by his own hand could only be violently destroyed by top-notch powerhouses such as Supre Elder Lord, Ancestor Minghe, and Demon Master Kunpeng; surely, no one else would be capable of that, right?
"Amitābha…"
After much thought and failing to figure it out, Tathagata did not continue to delve into it any further and chanted a Buddha's na.
Hearing Tathagata speak, Guanyin's heart trembled, knowing that the Buddha was about to speak.
"Given the situation, first, we must find out the whereabouts of the Drought Demon. The Drought Demon, crafted by the Ancient Witch Clan, has a formidable physical body; even a Daluo Golden Immortal would find it difficult to kill him. Its disappearance ans it must have escaped!"
"Second, we must thoroughly investigate who it was that released the Drought Demon's seal!"
"Lastly…"
As he reached the last point, Tathagata's gaze fell upon Bodhisattva Guanyin.
After a brief pause, Tathagata spoke, "The disappearance of the Drought Demon, though unexpected, implicates you, Great Bodhisattva Guanyin, as you cannot shirk responsibility. Thus, you shall enter the Illusionary Demon Cave to ditate on your faults for two years. The remaining matters of the Scripture Seeking Journey to the West for the next two years will be handled by soone else!"
Hearing that she was to enter the Illusionary Demon Cave for two years, Bodhisattva Guanyin's body trembled slightly.
Yet, she dared not voice any objection.
"I humbly obey the Buddha's decree!" With her head lowered, Bodhisattva Guanyin responded.
After her words fell, she paid her respects to Tathagata, took out the Calamity Book of the Journey to the West, and then turned to leave the Great Thunder Monastery, heading into the Illusionary Demon Cave.
