His lips parted, hesitating. Finally, he said it, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I kissed him."
Her brow furrowed in confusion. "You kissed who?"
He looked away, his gaze darting to the rain-drenched windshield.
i hadn’t needed to ask. But maybe it was because she was anxious. Because her brain seed to register things just as he spoke.
"Chris," he finally admitted, the word falling like a confession.
i froze, her eyes widening. "Chris?" she repeated, this ti a whisper, as if afraid anyone else might hear.
Sky nodded, his face filled with guilt, confusion, and sothing i couldn’t quite place. Just yet.
"What... what happened? How?" She shook her head, at a loss for words. "Just—how did he react?"
"I don’t know," Sky admitted, running a hand through his wet hair. "I don’t know, i. I just—"
"FOCUS!" she barked, snapping him out of his spiralling thoughts again.
He fell silent, looking at her like a chastised child.
"Now think," she said, her voice steadier but still firm. "How did Chris react? Did he kiss you back?"
He swallowed hard, his mind flashing back to the mont.
Not only had the bastard instigated him, but he had been in on it. And he had looked proud.
Despite how much Sky had been seething.
"He did," Sky admitted, his voice barely audible. "He kissed back."
"Ha!" The exclaim escaped her lips before she could stop herself and she sat up imdiately, even turning off the car.
"Does... does he know?" i asked carefully, her tone softening now.
Sky didn’t answer. His silence was louder than any words he could have spoken.
i sighed. "Sky...does he know how you... feel?"
He clenched his jaw, his shoulders tensing. It was a question he didn’t want to answer, sothing he’d been avoiding for weeks. He shook his head, his voice trembling with frustration.
"I didn’t say anything," he admitted, his hands tugging at the wet strands of his hair.
"But I don’t know what to do, i. I tried—I tried so hard not to do anything, but I... can’t! I can’t stop thinking about him. It’s driving insane!" His voice cracked, and he bent forward, gripping his head.
i stayed silent, letting him vent.
"He pisses off so much," Sky continued, his voice rising. "He always pisses off, yet he acts like he doesn’t know anything. Or maybe he doesn’t even know!"
Sky was angry now.
"There’s always soone I have to fight—always soone who wants him. Girls, boys, everybody! One minute, I think he likes , and the next, he’s smiling at so stupid witch. I don’t know what he’s doing behind my back, and I’m too busy to stalk him! But I want to know. I NEED to know who he’s talking to, what he’s thinking—everything!"
"And do what?" i asked incredulously. "Fight them? Hit them?"
Sky looked up at her, his wide, desperate eyes suddenly softening into sothing almost childlike.
"Can’t I?" he asked, his voice so quiet, so earnest, that it broke her heart a little. "It won’t be the first ti." He added quietly.
"And I had to travel down here to cover it for you!" She snapped at him. "I can’t keep covering for you. You need to learn how to control yourself. Ash is already onto you, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the guys are guessing too. And your parents—"
"Then what the hell am I supposed to do?" Sky shouted back, his voice trembling with anger. "He’s the one who seduced !"
i’s head snapped toward him, disbelief and frustration written all over her face. "No," she said, her voice sharp and unwavering. "You’ve had this crazy obsession with him since the very first ti you saw him."
Her words cut deeper than he wanted to admit. And the car was suddenly quiet.
She was right, and they both knew it. But... it hadn’t been an obsession. It was a simple, quiet curiosity.
It had started the day they t—when he first saw Chris. And they ant the very first ti. The ti when Chris had been in the café with Rachel.
Sky had been outside with his cousin. He had seen him from outside.
i had been on the phone with him, chatting about nothing in particular while waiting for his cousin to finish purchasing her ice cream.
Sky had gone silent mid-sentence.
"Sky? Hello? Are you still there?" i’s voice had echoed in his ear that day, but he hadn’t heard her.
He had entered the café with his cousin after she was done. Did he want coffee? No. But he had entered. And he had stared at them. And the short witch who ogled him. But then, she ogled him. Not Chris.
That was fine.
The guy had also stared right at him.
He returned to his senses after they left the café. He only had one prayer then... never to et that boy again.
Now, he clenched his fists, shaking his head as he looked at i. "But he ca here! I was perfectly fine on my own, and then he ca here! None of this would have gotten this far if he hadn’t started flirting with —"
"Sky!" i’s voice rose sharply, snapping him out of his rant. She even blared the car horn, the loud sound jolting him.
"Calm down!" she said firmly, though her voice softened just slightly.
Sky’s chest heaved as he tried to catch his breath, his emotions teetering dangerously close to the edge.
"Sky," i said quietly, concern now etched across her face. "Did you... did you take your dication?"
Her voice was softer now, almost a whisper, but the question hit him hard.
He froze, guilt and sha creeping into his features. Her gaze, steady and full of worry, searched his face for an answer. He turned away, unable to et her eyes.
"Sky..." she called in a gentle voice and reached for his hand, touching it, but he pulled away from her.
