Chapter 227: Curveball
"Will you marry me?"
Taji’s sudden question came completely out of left field, stun locking me in turn and having me stare up at her in confusion as I wondered where this had come from and what she was trying to get at, only to realize she was somewhat serious as she knelt and clasped my hand between hers.
"No other woman I have ever been around has been like this to me~! Clearly that must mean you are the one I should focus on, and-!"
"Taji, are you insane?!"
I yanked my hand free and glared at her, that sudden question spiking my heartrate from surprise before the anger pushed it up just a bit more as well; the way I glared at her made the Hyenakin shiver, somehow turning my own anger into something that she was using to make me uncomfortable... because I was angry at her...
Goddesses above she was so damn confusing...
"Most certainly I am insane to some degree, but that doesn’t matter now does it? So what do you say, do you want to get married to me? I can keep you safe; you’ve already seen that happen. I can provide for you, I can cherish you, and I can definitely satisfy you!"
"You are just... Taji, you have no idea if you can satisfy me, you are utterly insane, you have admitted to stalking me and you also have some very unsavory rumors about you suggesting you’ve killed and mutilated multiple different people! What amongst all of that would possibly make me want to marry you?!"
The Hyenakin grabbed my hand again and pressed it against her chest, letting me feel her heartrate as some sort of attempt to prove her earnestness as she said "That displays my devotion to you, and rumors are merely rumors... that are sometimes true. Anyways, that’s all in the past now and none of it would land me in jail anyways, so there is no need to worry whatsoever! Besides, if we-"
"It is still a no, Taji. You think I came to the Academy to get married in my first year? To someone I have only spent what, maybe a total of twenty or so hours with? That’s not even enough time for me to consider dating you, let alone marrying you!"
"Some of the greatest things in this world are spontaneous and unexpected."
"And this might not be one of them so why bother taking the risk?"
Clicking her tongue and looking away, she mulled over something before tilting her head and asking "Then might I have your permission to court you, my lady~?
