Roo felt like he was drowning while he watched the love of his life, his mate, dance with an unknown man.

He couldn’t quite tell who she was dancing with, but they were close to each other, too close to be just friends.

Helena’s head rested on the man’s shoulder as they swayed to the music.

Roo balled his hands into fists and he didn’t know whether he should leave or charge onto the dance floor and take his mate.

"Did you see the warlocks?" Roo heard a she-wolf purr. "Apparently Witches and Warlocks normally don’t have mates, they only have one if a wolf scents them as their mate."

’Witches? Warlocks?’ Roo asked Ryder.

’They don’t have scents, rember?’ Ryder answered back.

Roo lifted his nose to the air and began to sniff.

He could sll the scents mingling as well as an absence of it. For so reason, it slled like there were a lot less people in the room.

"Alpha Roo," one of the Sunfire Alphas greeted, waving as he approached Roo. "We were expecting you."

"You were?" Roo asked, practically growling.

"Quite a Blood Moon Ball, huh?" the Alpha asked.

Roo nodded and grunted in reply.

"Right, you probably don’t know ," the Alpha chuckled. "I’m a friend of Helena’s and Alpha to the Firelake pack, the na’s Caleb."

The Alpha, Caleb Firelake, offered his hand to shake.

Roo begrudgingly took it but quickly pulled away.

"The witches and warlocks?" Roo asked.

"Ah yes, our latest addition to the guest list!" Caleb said proudly. "It’s quite interesting to watch them interact with everyone. They don’t have mates and they don’t know if anyone is mated unless you expressly tell them."

"Oh?" Roo asked.

"Alpha Caleb, you’re needed," soone called.

"If you’ll excuse , Alpha Roo," Caleb said as he left Roo alone to the rcy of the crowds.

A woman with long dark hair in a dress that barely left anything to the imagination approached Roo. He backed up a little, but she wouldn’t relent.

"Hey there handso," she purred as she ran a finger on his chest. "They tell you’re an Alpha, a very powerful Alpha."

As she batted her eyes at Roo he felt like he needed to puke.

Having another woman’s hands on him felt dirty.

She slled the air around them and he got nothing.

’A witch,’ Ryder told him.

Roo was about to push the Witch away when he noticed Helena’s eyes et his. He watched as the call expression on her face turned furious.

He tried to push the witch away, but she grabbed his shirt and wrapped an arm around his neck.

"Get off ," Roo growled.

"But Alpha," the witch purred. "I’m looking for a good night. Do you want to give a good night?"

Roo desperately wanted her off but he was worried that shoving her would end up causing a rift between the Coven and the wolves.

"I’m not interested!" Roo said as loudly as he could as he tried to get the witch off of him. "I have a mate."

"A mate?" the witch said, tilting her head to the side.

Roo relaxed as she loosened her hold, only to wrap her legs around him as well and begin to rub herself on him.

"We witches don’t believe in mates," the witch said. "We witches believe—"

The witch was suddenly pulled off of Roo, literally kicking and screaming.

"Let go of , you fucking whore!" the witch shouted as Helena dragged her across the room, drawing everyone’s attention.

Roo quickly chased after her, worried that sothing bad would happen to Helena.

Helena threw the witch to the center of the room and the man whom Roo recognized as the one dancing with her earlier, laughed.

He looked at the man closely, sothing about him was oddly familiar.

Roo tried to catch as scent again, but there was none. The man was a warlock, but why did it feel like they’d t before?

"Do you even know who you’re calling a whore?" the man said in a deep voice that bood across the room.

To Roo’s surprise, the five Sunfire City Alphas suddenly appeared.

"Roo?" a small voice squeaked drawing Roo’s attention.

"Rebecca!" Roo said as he opened his arms and got on his knees.

Rebecca ran up to him and jumped into his arms and gave her a tight hug.

"I missed you," he whispered.

"I bet not as much as you missed Helena," Rebecca teased.

Roo simply smiled and shook his head.

He found Helena watching him, glaring at him before turning back to the witch on the ground.

Unlike earlier the witch was no longer fighting back, she was now on her knees, shaking.

"Did you really just call my Granddaughter, you future Grand Witch, a whore?" the man asked with his arms on his hips.

Roo looked at him, stunned.

That couldn’t be Helena’s grandfather, he should know what the man looked like. He knew in his mind that he’d t the man but he couldn’t quite put a face to the na or even a na at all.

"You not only called a whore, but you attempted to take my mate," Helena growled as she stepped forward.

"Mistress, please, I didn’t know," the witch whimpred.

"It seems you’ve all been gone for too long," Helena said.

Helena raised her hand in the air as sparks began to appear on the tips of her fingers. Roo panicked, he didn’t want Helena to hurt anyone and regret it.

Roo quickly got up to his feet and pulled Helena into his arms.

"No one will take from you, my love," Roo whispered. "Don’t do sothing you’ll regret, don’t kill her."

Helena’s shoulders dropped as she turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I won’t kill her," she promised before getting on her toes and planting a chaste kiss on Roo’s lips.

Roo wanted to pull her close and never let her go, but Helena would always be Helena.

As he released her she turned around and once again sparks erupted for the tip of her fingers.

"You will lose your magic for a week, let that be a reminder of the pain you almost caused," Helena said as a strong wind blew through the room and the witch passed out.

"Helena," Roo gasped.

"Did I scare you?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"No, love, never." He promised.
