’They haven’t contacted us yet,’ Roo told his wolf as they ran the periter of the pack territory again.

’We just have to trust that they will,’ Ryder said, being the voice of reason this ti.

’Maybe we shouldn’t have let Mom and Rebecca go,’ Roo said as he considered running all the way to Sunfire City.

’Helena and Rae wouldn’t have spoken to anyone else,’ Ryder reminded him as they approached a river that intersected the Blackmoon and Stonehill pack borders. ’Plus they have Norris and Daniel with them, they’ll be safe.

Roo shifted back into human form as he watched the river between the packs flow.

He closed his eyes as he rembered all those nights when he’d sneak out of his room and et Helena here.

They weren’t a couple, but even then Roo knew that his heart beat for her and her alone.

Roo shifted again, this ti running directly toward the Stonehill pack house.

He was lucky that he had a lot of elders he could go to for advice.

His father was just as distraught as he was with his Mom and Rebecca gone. He felt that he needed to seek advice from soone else.

With the two packs practically united, Roo shifted in front of the pack house and was greeted by the pack mbers he passed.

The Stonehill pack hosue was smaller than Blackmoon’s and the Alpha’s office was quite close to the pack house entrance.

"Roo, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Jeremiah asked as he leaned against the door fra of his office.

It was as if he knew Roo would be visiting him today.

"To talk," Roo admitted.

"Co on," Jeremiah said with a nod as he gestured for Roo to follow him into his office.

Roo settled into the chair in Jeremiah’s office and looked at the older Alpha.

He’d been Alpha even before he or Helena was born, but they’d always seen him as an older brother rather than as an uncle.

"I’m worried about my mate," Roo admitted.

Jeremiah nodded as he let Roo speak.

"She’s been gone almost four months, I’ve sent mom and Rebecca to check in on her and Rae, but I haven’t heard back from them," Roo told Jeremiah.

"You do know that Helena wouldn’t leave for no apparent reason, right?" Jeremiah asked the younger Alpha. "She loves you and her old fear was that despite that love you wouldn’t be mates and now you are."

"I know it, by the goddess, I fucking know Jeremiah," Roo said as he slamd his hand on the table. "But what if I did sothing that sent her away?"

"It wasn’t you," Jeremiah sighed.

"What?" Roo asked, his gaze snapping to Jeremiah. "What did you say?"

Jeremiah shook his head and stood up.

He picked up a photo and handed it to Roo.

It was a photo of the two families, before Helena’s father and his mother had passed.

He was probably around eight in the photo and he had his arms wrapped around Helena.

"Helena’s father, Vincent Sage, was a powerful Warlock," Jeremiah recounted. "He was probably the most powerful of his generation and he was heir to the Grand Warlock. Being his daughter Helena not only inherited his power but the position of the Grand Warlock’s heir upon his death as well."

"I already know this," Roo hissed.

Jeremiah sighed and shook his head.

"How many attacks have happened since Helena left?" Jeremiah asked Roo.

"Two," Roo answered.

"We know that the attacks have been assisted by Witches or Warlocks, both of whom were supposed to have vanished after Helena’s father died," Jeremiah pointed out. "She left because she wanted to protect her people."

"You cannot seriously be okay with this?!" Roo asked, raising his voice.

"I’m not," Jeremiah answered as calmly as he could. "She’s not only my heir but my niece as well, she’s family, but she did what she believed was right."

Roo watched Jeremiah, and then that’s when it hit him.

"You’ve been in contact with her," Roo said with his eyes narrowing at Jeremiah.

Jeremiah nodded slowly.

"You’ve been in contact with her and you didn’t even bother to tell !" Roo said, shouting at Jeremiah. "My mate has been missing and you’ve known where she is—"

"I haven’t known where she’s been, Roo," Jeremiah answered not backing down. "She’s kept that information particularly hidden."

Roo closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

"Is she well?" he finally asked.

"She is," Jeremiah answered. "I can confirm that she’s in Sunfire City and according to her she’s doing research."

"Research?" Roo asked.

"She’s trying to protect her people, Roo," Jeremiah reminded him. "She waited to be certain that her absence stopped the attacks."

"She thinks it’s the coven?" Roo asked.

"At first she suspected her Grandfather was trying to get her back," Jeremiah explained. "But I told her that was unlikely. I’ve t the Grand Warlock, he’s more likely to knock on the door and ask to speak to her than to attack."

"Then why are they after her and why did we let her leave on her own?" Roo demanded to know.

"They haven’t attacked her, they don’t know where she is, and that’s why she’s at Sunfire," Jeremiah explained. "She’s there to find out what they want and to try to contact her Grandfather."

"Do you know what happened to the Grand Warlock and the coven?" Roo asked Jeremiah.

The older Alpha slowly nodded.

"Why?" Roo asked as he leaned forward.

"One of their own killed Vincent," Jeremiah explained. "Not many know this, but the Grand Warlock in his grief and anger took all the Warlocks and Witches with him to a place between worlds to find the traitors. That’s why they can’t contact him."

"And Helena thinks she can?" Roo asked.

"If anyone can reach him it’ll be his heir," Jeremiah confird. "And if any place will hold that information it will be Sunfire city."

"Because of it’s library?" Roo asked.

"No, because the Grand Warlock’s sister still lives there."
