His mate or his pack, that seed to be the choice Roo was forced to make as he stood by the woods behind the pack house.
"There are people approaching," Roo told Kade.
Kade nodded, he understood what Roo was saying.
"You go protect our pack, I’ll follow whatever lead I can find on our mates," Kade assured him. "I’m your Gamma, it’s my job to make sure your Luna is safe and your sister is my mate, I will go to the ends of the earth just to find her."
Roo gave his Gamma an appreciative smile before running off toward the border.
He gave the command for more wolves to et him where the group of people were spotted to be approaching.
"Mom," Roo said as he spotted Alyssa standing outside the packhouse.
"She left didn’t she?" Alyssa said as she looked out into the forest.
"Mom, I don’t know for sure," Roo sighed.
Alyssa nodded. She took a step down from the porch which wrapped around the pack house.
She walked up to her stepson and cupped his cheek. Her gaze traveled down to his neck, catching the mate mark.
"But you’re fully mated?" Alyssa asked. "She carries your mark?"
"She does," Roo said as his voice broke.
This woman was like a second mother to him before his own passed and when his mother died she quickly stepped into the role of his mother.
"Mom," Roo said as he hugged his stepmother. "I’ll find her, I’ll bring her back."
Alyssa nodded.
"I think Rae is with her," Roo admitted.
"Rae?" Alyssa seed shocked by this. "Why would Rae leave?"
"You know that she found her mate last night too?" Roo asked.
"She honestly didn’t seem so thrilled to be mated to Kade," Alyssa chuckled. "But I’m hoping we have so enemies-to-lovers trope going on there."
Roo frowned. "You read too much of those sappy books, Mom."
"Either you’ll find them or they’ll find their way back," Alyssa said. Roo was confused to find her smiling rather than sad that her daughter and stepdaughter had left.
"Mom, go inside," Roo said as he sensed soone cross their border. "And take Rebecca, stay where it’s safe."
Alyssa nodded before giving her stepson a hug and running back inside.
When Roo was certain that Alyssa and Rebecca were safe, he reached out to his father.
’Can you stay with Mom and Rebecca?’ Roo asked through the link.
’Don’t you need at the border?’ Raul asked his son, but Roo could already sense him headed toward their direction.
’I think it’s more important that you and Gamma Norris stay in the pack house, just in case this goes south,’ Roo admitted to his father.
The link went silent, making Roo worry.
’Is it serious?’ Raul asked.
’I don’t know yet, Dad,’ Roo admitted. ’I just need you to make sure what’s left of our family is safe.’
’Wait, what?’ Raul asked in a shocked tone, his emotions reaching across the link. ’What do you an, son?’
’Rae and Helena are missing,’ Roo admitted.
’They ran? But weren’t you going to complete the mate bond last night?’ Raul questioned. ’Rae looked happy with Kade too.’
Roo let out a frustrated sigh.
He didn’t know what was happening either.
Helena seed happy last night, they’d talked about their future for crying out loud so he couldn’t quite understand why she was missing.
He’d been looking forward to waking up with Helena, his mate, and Luna, in his arms, but he woke up to a cold bedside.
’I don’t know where I fucked up dad,’ Roo admitted. It was only to his father that he could be truly honest. ’I don’t know why they left but I will find them and bring them ho.’
’Alright,’ Raul said. ’I’m on my way.’
’Thanks, Dad,’ Roo told him before cutting off the link.
For a mont Roo considered running toward the border, but since there were no alarms being raised he decided to take his car.
The drive and the run would take roughly the sa since the intruders decided to go through their most formal entrance.
Roo drove for what felt like hours before finally reaching the gates at the border.
"Alpha," Neil greeted as Roo opened the car door and got out.
"How many?" Roo asked as he walked toward the gate.
"About a hundred," Neil answered.
"And they’re just waiting out there to attack?" Roo asked suspiciously.
Neil shook his head and sighed.
"This is sothing you have to see for yourself, I can’t even explain what’s happening," Neil told him. "I ca here ready to fight, not to encounter all of this!"
Roo raised an eyebrow at his Beta, confused by what he was trying to say.
"I don’t even know how to explain what’s waiting for you on the other side," Neil sighed. "They want to talk to you, no the demanded to talk to you. Said the Luna sent them."
"What Luna?" Roo asked, his attention snapping to Neil.
"That’s what I said," Neil shrugged. "I told them that the Luna couldn’t have sent them when she hasn’t left the territory since the other day."
Roo froze.
"Except she has," he said with gritted teeth.
"What?" Neil looked at him in disbelief.
"She left, along with Rae," Roo grumbled. "Kade and I woke up to empty beds with our mates running away."
Neil’s gaze fell on Roo’s neck.
"So you’re fully mated? So is Kade?" Neil confird.
Roo nodded before letting out a sigh.
"Let’s get this over with," Roo said as he pushed open the gates.
He was shocked to see the amount of people waiting for him on the other side.
A young lady stood as soon as she saw him.
"Are you Alpha Roo?" she asked, her voice shaking despite her best efforts to hide her anxiety.
"I am," he answered in a calm tone. "Why did you co here?"
"She sent us," the girl said. "She told us you’d let us stay, that you’d give us sanctuary if we gave you her ssage."
"Who is this she you keep ntioning?" Neil asked.
"The Luna who is also an Alpha," the girl said. "She and your sister passed by our camp and told us to go here."
Roo closed his eyes.
There was a lead to where Helena and Rae had gone.
"Let them through," he told Neil.
Neil nodded before waving the guards to help the wolves.
"What did she say?" Roo asked the girl.
The girl hesitated, it probably wasn’t sothing good.
"Tell ," Roo practically roared.
"She said not to look for her and to forget her," the girl said in a small voice.
