Helena had half the thought to run.
She’d considered making the sprint from the temple to the packhouse and out of the Blackmoon territory, but she knew she couldn’t outrun Roo. Especially now that he’d gotten the confirmation he’d been waiting for.
’We’ve known for a while,’ Hera said as Helena looked down at her hands.
Things moved quickly as Roo pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
All her doubts and hesitation vanished as soon as his lips ca crashing into hers.
Before tonight, she found comfort and peace in his arms, but as he engulfed her in his large fra, it felt like more. It felt like she was ho.
"Finally," Roo sighed as their lips parted.
’Mate,’ Hera purred in her head, giving her the confirmation she didn’t need to hear.
"I told you we were mates," Roo teased her as he kissed her again, this ti pressing a chaste kiss on her lips.
"I know," she said, doing her best to smile.
She was a whirlwind of emotions, unsure of what to feel.
She was happy.
Of course, she was happy.
The man she’d loved all her life, the man who had loved her, was her mate. The Bloodmoon ca early, it seed the Moon Goddess refused to let her walk away from him again.
"Is sothing wrong, love?" Roo asked as he placed his finger below her chin and lifted it so that he could clearly see her eyes.
His gaze seed worried, making Helena frown.
She shook her head and sighed.
"No, everything is fine. It’s perfect," she said, smiling a little brighter this ti.
’I don’t want to think of the consequences,’ she told Hera. ’For once, I want to be selfish and to be with the person I love.’
’No argunts from there,’ Hera purred.
Helena could feel that her wolf was stronger. She also seed happier.
It was, without a doubt, the effect of finding her mate.
"Look," Roo whispered as he guided her to look off the stage.
All around them mbers of their pack and their guests were coming together, finding their mates.
"It’s not just us," Roo said as she gave her a nudge.
Helena looked to her side and found Kade chasing after Rae, making Helena laugh.
"I guess I’m not the only one that hesitated," Helena teased.
Roo kissed her again, holding her tight, refusing to let go.
"The Rite isn’t over," Helena whispered in his ears. "As much as I want to spend the rest of the day consumating our bond, I think we need to finish the Rite."
Roo frowned and sighed.
"I’m not the only one that’s going to be reluctant to do this," Roo purred in her ear.
"Well, the forest is a huge place. I’m sure we can find so privacy," she said, springing Roo into action.
He turned to face the crowd and cleared his throat, drawing the attention of the crowd to him.
When the Alpha called, the pack answered.
"As happy as it makes that more than the average amount of wolves have found their mates today, my gorgeous mate and your Luna just reminded that we still need to finish the Rite," Roo announced.
His words were greeted by both groans and cheers, making Roo laugh and shake his head in response.
Next to them, Raul smiled as he pulled his own mate into his arms.
"What’s next, Dad?" Roo asked as he looked to the Alpha.
"We run under the Goddess’s light," Raul said as he looked up at the Bloodmoon. "Think you kids can keep it in your pants enough to do a pack run, the first pack run with your new Alpha?"
Raul’s words were greeted by cheers as Roo took Helena’s hand and helped her down from the stage.
As Alpha and Luna, they were expected to lead the run.
"I don’t want them to see you naked," Roo groaned.
"Roo," Helena sighed. "I’ve shifted in front of our pack so many tis."
"It’s different now," Roo said as he kissed the crook of her neck where his mark would go.
Helena laughed and shook her head.
He was being silly, but she also knew that Alphas tended to be possessive to the point that it was unreasonable at tis.
"I’ll shift behind the tree," she told Roo as she kissed his lips. "Will that make you happy?"
"Yes," he quickly answered, as if he didn’t even have to think of an answer.
Helena laughed again before walking away.
She could feel his eyes on her as she moved behind the tree.
’Is it safe to shift?’ she asked Hera.
’It is safe,’ her wolf confird.
Helena didn’t bother waiting, she simply stripped off her dress and shifted.
Long ago, when she was young shifting had hurt, but now she slipped into her wolf form so easily that within seconds she moved from behind the trees, joining the rest of her pack.
"You’re gorgeous, Hera," Roo said, greeting her wolf.
Hera yipped in approval, making Roo laugh.
He looked at her with so much love that Helena couldn’t help but bask in it’s warmth.
"Let’s run!" Roo announced as he stripped off his shirt and relived himself of his pants as he began shifting.
In wolf form, Roo was even larger. His wolf’s dark black coat was the source of the pack’s na.
All Blackmoon Alphas had midnight black fur, and all of them were large and powerful.
Roo, now in wolf form, howled and broke out into a run with Helena quick on his heels.
The rest of the pack and guests quickly followed suit.
At the head of the run Ryder and Hera playfully chased each other until Hera suddenly stopped.
They’d been ahead of everyone, but they could still hear the thundring of paws behind them.
’Sothing’s wrong,’ Hera said through the link.
’Roo,’ Helena said, drawing Roo’s attention.
’What is it my ma—’ just as Roo spoke Helena felt a pain to her side as she was pushed to the ground.
She heard the growling of wolves and slt the unfamiliar scent of different packed wolves.
They were under attack again.
