Chapter 518: Chapter 518: Conflict

Feng Yuan only got the spot as Advanced Disciple because he latched onto Wang Teng’s thigh.

He never expected that Ye Qingchen, who almost failed to get into Central Celestial Academy, would also gain the Advanced Disciple spot!

Feng Yuan looked at Ye Qingchen with utter disdain and spoke:

"I really didn’t expect that trash Divine Wood Academy of yours would actually have an Advanced Disciple quota."

At that moment, someone stepped out from behind Feng Yuan, speaking coldly:

"I asked my uncle, Divine Wood Academy has only recruited one disciple in recent years. Making him an Advanced Disciple is just a helpless move for Divine Wood Academy."

Ye Qingchen focused his gaze—the speaker was Wang Teng, the very person who tricked him and stopped him from entering Central Celestial Academy back then.

Faced with their sneers, Ye Qingchen couldn’t be bothered to respond, simply queuing by himself. Right now, passing the Inner Sect Disciple test was the most important thing; everything else meant nothing to Ye Qingchen.

Wang Teng and Feng Yuan saw Ye Qingchen blatantly ignore them, their anger flaring even higher, especially after noticing Ye Qingchen was only at the Martial King Realm Fourth Layer—they looked down on him even more.

Wang Teng shot Feng Yuan a look—Feng Yuan understood and addressed Ye Qingchen:

"Ye Qingchen, with your puny Martial King Realm Fourth Layer power, you have the nerve to join the Inner Sect Disciple selection? Looks like Divine Wood Academy really is as the rumors say—fallen apart and about to be kicked out of the academy, so they sent you out here to embarrass yourselves."

Ye Qingchen heard Feng Yuan insult Divine Wood Academy, his gaze turned icy, and he replied to Feng Yuan:

"Divine Wood Academy isn’t something you have the right to judge. Mind your own business and stop pestering me. Otherwise, suffer the consequences."

Ye Qingchen’s frosty stare made Feng Yuan involuntarily take two steps back, but remembering Wang Teng was beside him—if he backed off after just a few words from Ye Qingchen—it’d be far too humiliating.

Especially since Feng Yuan, using Wang Teng’s connections, got special treatment during the Divine Light Bestowal upon initiation, and on top of that, he’d been training hard with Wang Teng at Duanjin Academy. His strength was now at Martial King Realm Ninth Layer.

Thinking of the widening gap between himself and Ye Qingchen, Feng Yuan’s confidence surged back. He snorted coldly at Ye Qingchen:

"Ye Qingchen, stop pretending. I’m already Martial King Realm Ninth Layer—do you still think you can beat me?"

Ye Qingchen shook his head in disdain and replied:

"Even if you’re at the Martial King Realm Ninth Layer, you’re still no match for me."

"You!"

Humiliated by Ye Qingchen’s words, Feng Yuan was already boiling with rage and couldn’t help wanting to strike Ye Qingchen, but Wang Teng waved his hand to stop him.

Feng Yuan looked at Wang Teng, puzzled, and asked carefully:

"Young Master Wang? You just gonna let this punk go?"

Wang Teng shot Feng Yuan a glance, speaking coldly:

"Idiot. Fighting is forbidden on academy grounds. He’s using a goading tactic to rile you up—if you make a move, the academy will punish you."

Wang Teng instinctively took Ye Qingchen’s disdain toward Feng Yuan as a provocation meant to enrage him.

Feng Yuan gulped, finally recalling the academy’s rules. Realizing he’d almost fallen for it just now, he shrank his neck, his hatred for Ye Qingchen only growing.

But the two still guessed wrong—Ye Qingchen actually knew nothing about Central Celestial Academy’s rules. With Elder Yang’s personality, he couldn’t care less about explaining rules to Ye Qingchen. Even if Ye Qingchen broke any, to Elder Yang, what’s the big deal if my disciple bends a rule or two?

So when Ye Qingchen overheard their conversation, he just shook his head, somewhat impressed by their wild imaginations.

Wang Teng looked at Ye Qingchen, coldly voicing:

"Ye Qingchen, I advise you not to join the Inner Sect Disciple test this time."

Ye Qingchen shook his head with contempt and replied:

"Young Master Wang, whether I take the Inner Sect Disciple test or not doesn’t seem to be any of your business."

Wang Teng sneered as he said:

"Ye Qingchen, then you’d better pray you don’t run into me during the test."

Ye Qingchen was about to snap back, but suddenly Zi Xing appeared, spotting Ye Qingchen, and ran over with delight, saying:

"Junior Brother Ye, you’re here so early."

Zi Xing originally thought Ye Qingchen wasn’t interested in joining the Demon Clan trial, but then he suddenly changed his mind and said he wanted to participate. Still, she didn’t expect Ye Qingchen to be this enthusiastic—he’d arrived even earlier than her.

Ye Qingchen smiled at Zi Xing, nodded, and greeted:

"Senior Sister Zi Xing."

"You’re Zi Xing?"

Wang Teng eyed Zi Xing up and down, ice-cold gaze now mixed with something else—a man’s instinctive desire when faced with beauty.

Even though Wang Teng hid it well—the lust flickered past his eyes—it didn’t escape Zi Xing’s sharp senses.

This made Zi Xing instinctively dislike Wang Teng; and seeing his manners—calling her by name with no respect despite being a new disciple—made her even more annoyed.

But thanks to her upbringing, Zi Xing still nodded, replying blandly:

"Ferocious Fire Academy. Zi Xing."

Wang Teng cupped his hands to Zi Xing and said:

"I’ve long heard your name—the beauty of the Central Domain truly lives up to the reputation. I’m Wang Teng; let’s be friends."

After speaking, Wang Teng stretched out his right hand, wanting to shake hands with Zi Xing. Zi Xing simply glanced at it, totally ignoring him.

Zi Xing’s indifference left Wang Teng embarrassed; Feng Yuan by his side caught on quickly and hastened to say to Zi Xing:

"Hey girl, don’t be so stuck-up. Our Young Master Wang is the nephew of Duanjin Academy’s Dean Wang—and let me tell you, the Dean once said Wang Teng is a peerless genius with the makings of a Martial Lord. Being friends with our Young Master Wang is your good fortune!"

Feng Yuan’s comments made Zi Xing’s expression frosty—she was about to snap, but Ye Qingchen held her back.

Ye Qingchen drew Zi Xing to his side, looked at Feng Yuan with disdain, and said:

"Feng Yuan, if your father knew you entered Central Celestial Academy not to train but just to play lackey for someone else—I wonder how he’d feel."

"Ye Qingchen! You dare call me a dog!"

Infuriated by Ye Qingchen’s words, Feng Yuan finally lost all restraint, instantly drawing out his inferior class treasure and was about to attack Ye Qingchen, but Wang Teng stopped him again.

Wang Teng saw Ye Qingchen holding Zi Xing’s soft white jade hand so tightly—and Zi Xing not resisting at all—and recalling how she’d snubbed his handshake, his jealousy burned, gaze colder still as he spoke to Ye Qingchen:

"Boy, you keep riling me up—sooner or later, I’ll make you regret it."

After saying that, Wang Teng spun on his heels and left—no queuing—heading straight for the altar.

Feng Yuan snorted coldly and hurried after Wang Teng.

Zi Xing was long used to dealing with these persistent lechers, so she quickly adjusted her state of mind.

"Ye Qingchen, let’s go sign up!"

Zi Xing started to walk, but suddenly paused, turning her head to look down along her arm at her hand.

Only then did she realize Ye Qingchen was still holding her hand, and a faint blush crept up her cheeks!
