Engaged since we were but infants?
Su Luo’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at An Shiqing, then turned his gaze toward An Ran.
Himself and An Ran, betrothed when they were but infants?!
Impossible, right?
He and An Ran, they were five or six years apart in age, not of the sa generation at all!
This news truly shocked Su Luo!
He had thought that what An Shiqing ant by "let’s speak frankly" was regarding the objects his grandfather had left at the An Family’s ho, which the family was no longer intending to return. But he didn’t expect that An Shiqing was actually referring to his and An Ran’s marriage agreent.
"You didn’t know?"
From the look in Su Luo’s eyes and his changing expression, An Shiqing could tell that Su Luo was very surprised.
"He didn’t know."
An Ran explained on behalf of Su Luo.
An Shiqing frowned.
An Ran spent every day mingling with Su Luo, and for Su Luo’s sake, even stole the Eight-Patterned Spiritual Ginseng from her family. An Shiqing had assud An Ran had already told Su Luo about their engagent. But now it seed he had miscalculated.
If Su Luo really didn’t know, then it was unnecessary for him to bring up the matter!
However, since the subject had already been brought to light, he decided there was no point in hiding it any longer.
Su Luo finally understood that many years ago, when he was still in swaddling clothes, his grandfather had betrothed him to the An Family, and the subject was his then-pregnant mother, An Ran.
But it was, for the most part, a joke!
Because no one knew whether the child An Ran’s mother was carrying would be a boy or a girl.
The agreent was simply that if it wasn’t a daughter, the engagent would wait until the birth of a girl.
Indeed, that pregnancy resulted in a boy, An Ran’s older brother.
An Ran was born later.
By that ti, no one ntioned the engagent again. An Ran also found out about it by chance from her mother’s words. Out of curiosity, she ca to Jiangbei.
"So that’s how it is."
After learning the truth, Su Luo finally understood why An Ran was inexplicably close to him.
But this still left him extrely shocked.
"Su Luo, now that we’ve laid it all out, I hope that from now on, you and An Ran can keep your distance. It would be best if you don’t even remain friends," An Shiqing stated bluntly.
This was also the reason why he had traveled all this way here. It was not to pursue the matter of the Eight-Patterned Spiritual Ginseng, but to take An Ran away.
"Dad, what are you talking about?"
An Ran no longer acted coquettishly; instead, she looked at An Shiqing with anger.
Su Luo’s brow was deeply furrowed.
An Ran was very kind to him. He had long since considered An Ran a friend and, in a way, Su Luo, this flirt, rarely had any wicked thoughts about An Ran.
With Aunt Shen, with Lin Ruoxi, with Xia Yi, when he was in close contact with them, Su Luo would feel an uncontrollable impulse, and his heart would harbor wicked thoughts and desires.
Only with An Ran did Su Luo not feel such thoughts, or at least, very rarely, even if he happened to see An Ran erging from the bath and accidentally glimpsed her body. It was just a mont of impulse, and afterwards, he never thought about doing anything to An Ran.
He even felt sowhat guilty.
But now, to find out that he was engaged to An Ran!
And An Shiqing didn’t want him to have contact with An Ran anymore.
Speaking from his heart, Su Luo was unwilling to accept this.
It wasn’t that he wanted to cling to An Ran after finding out about the engagent; rather, he hoped that whatever lay between himself and An Ran, whether it be friendship or that engagent, they should be able to decide for themselves, rather than be forced by soone else.
He didn’t like the feeling of not being in control of such matters.
"Uncle An, we can leave the matter of the marriage engagent aside, I’ve never thought about it in that way, and you can be at ease. But An Ran and I are friends, and this is not subject to the will of others."
Su Luo took a deep breath and said.
As his words fell, a terrifying pressure instantly enveloped Su Luo, making him feel as if the gravity in the air had multiplied, pressing down on him so much he could hardly breathe.
An Shiqing still appeared scholarly, but his gaze had turned sowhat colder.
"Su Luo, I only have this one daughter, I don’t want to make things difficult for you, but I also hope you won’t make things difficult for ," An Shiqing said.
Su Luo, resisting the martial arts pressure emanating from An Shiqing, remained silent.
But this silence was a form of resistance in itself.
From Su Luo’s eyes, An Shiqing saw defiance and indomitability, causing his brows to furrow slightly. He then said, "Fine, think however you want!"
Having said this, he turned to look at An Ran, "An Ran, I’m here to take you ho."
An Ran shook her head, "I won’t go back."
She was about to walk toward Su Luo, but an invisible surge of energy blocked An Ran, "An Ran, you’ve stolen a precious treasure from the family. Even with my protection, you must return to the family to be punished and reflect on your actions."
A country has its laws, a family has its rules!
Even if An Ran was his daughter, she had to be punished, or else, as the child of the Family Head, she would behave recklessly, and the An Family would have long since fallen into chaos!
"Dad, give so more ti, after a while, I’ll return to accept the punishnt, okay?" An Ran’s tone had finally beco softer.
But An Shiqing refused, "No."
"Then I won’t go back," An Ran beca wilful.
"Young lady, are you really going to oppose ?" An Shiqing’s brows knitted together, a hint of displeasure flashed across his face, and at this mont, he exuded an oppressive presence, the kind developed by soone long accustod to a position of authority.
"Dad, just give three more days, is three days okay? After three days, I’ll return to the capital!" An Ran bit her lip and hurriedly said.
"There’s no room for negotiation," An Shiqing said solemnly.
"Dad, then don’t bla for not listening to you," An Ran said huffily, her face still showing traces of youthful immaturity. She lifted her hands, and in her palms, a powerful force erupted, clashing with the current of air exerted by An Shiqing.
To everyone’s surprise, An Ran actually managed to tear through that current of air.
Grandmaster?!
Su Luo’s pupils contracted slightly.
And her strength was not weak at all!
It could be said, An Ran’s sudden action almost popped Su Luo’s eyes out of their sockets. He had never imagined that An Ran had hidden her skills so deeply, being a grandmaster-level expert.
A nineteen-year-old Grandmaster?
"Young lady, you’ve gone a bit too far!" An Shiqing frowned.
Even if An Ran was a Grandmaster, her strength was still insignificant before An Shiqing.
An Ran’s power was easily dispersed.
But An Ran still pouted, and it was clear that she was truly angry.
Seeing this, Su Luo quickly stepped forward, unwilling for An Ran to have a conflict with her father because of him.
Su Luo imdiately said, "Uncle An, An Ran stole the Eight-Patterned Spiritual Ginseng for ; I am willing to take her punishnt in her place. Please don’t force her."
Hearing this, An Shiqing looked at Su Luo.
He did not mock or disdain, simply stating the fact, "You’re not a mber of the An Family, you can’t take her punishnt, nor do you have the right to do so."
Su Luo fell silent.
"Then what would make you agree to let An Ran return to the capital after three days?" Su Luo asked again, since he could not take An Ran’s punishnt, he would bargain for ti on her behalf.
An Shiqing looked at Su Luo, and after a long mont, finally said, "Young man, if you can withstand a single palm strike from , I will allow An Ran to return to the capital after three days. Do you dare?"
"I do!" Su Luo answered without hesitation.
"With my palm strike, you’ll most likely die, and if not, you’ll either be seriously injured or crippled. Do you still dare? Think carefully before answering," An Shiqing snorted coldly.
