Ji Jie’s face stiffened. She hadn’t expected anyone to actually refuse such a precious Faceless Flower.

She tidied her hair.

Bending down to pick up the small white flower from the beach, she smiled. "Senior Xu, this heavenly treasure can enhance one’s Divine Sense by ten thousand years. Are you... sure you don’t want it?"

"Tell the person behind you that if they dare to sche against again, they will die," Xu Lai replied calmly.

The world bustled with people, all for the sake of profit. Without so vested interest, no one would be kind to others for no reason, especially not by offering a Spirit Plant capable of changing a cultivator’s destiny. Never mind the Nascent Soul Realm; even cultivators at the Divinity Transformation Realm, or the even higher Divine Bridge Realm, would be absolutely unable to refuse such a tempting treasure.

Since the other party was willing to offer it, it ant the benefits they stood to gain in return were even greater.

Bait for Jing Ke? More likely, the bait wasn’t just for Jing Ke, but for others as well. Xu Lai had grown tired of such petty tricks like using others to eliminate his enemies tens of thousands of years ago.

"This is..." Ji Jie’s expression shifted slightly.

As Xu Lai uttered the word "die," the clear skies over East Sea City changed dramatically. In an instant, dark clouds gathered, and the faint threat of thunder rumbled within them.

In the Cultivation World, once a cultivator reached a certain boundary, their emotions could influence the laws of heaven and earth. She had seen her father alter the weather on the Moon, but only on a small scale. For soone’s emotions to cause such a massive shift in the weather, as Xu Lai had just done, was simply unheard of.

So—Xu Lai is quite likely a Divinity Transformation Realm cultivator!

The fifth of the ten cultivation boundaries is the Divinity Transformation Realm. Cultivators at this level had a lifespan of three thousand years, could be called great powers, and were capable of ruling an entire Star Domain. Ji Jie had once doubted whether this small star system, the Solar System, even had a true Divinity Transformation cultivator.

Now, I suspect I’ve just t one.

"If you can’t find Jing Ke and the Quasi-Emperor’s Tomb, don’t show your face in front of again," Xu Lai said indifferently. "There won’t be a next ti."

His cold gaze swept over Ji Jie, and she felt a chill run through her entire body, as if her very soul was about to shatter and dissipate. Even when standing before the forbidden ground of the Moon Clan, the Sea of the Moon, Ji Jie had never felt such terror!

She concealed her seductive deanor, bowing her body slightly and keeping her head low. She didn’t dare to raise her head until five full minutes after Xu Lai had disappeared. Her palace dress was soaked through with sweat, clinging uncomfortably to her skin.

Her face pale and bloodless, Ji Jie gazed at the distant, mist-shrouded Mount Haitang, her expression deeply complex. After a mont’s hesitation, she bit her lower lip and vanished from the beach.

Ji Jie decided she would spare no expense to accelerate the search for the Quasi-Emperor’s Tomb. She had to complete her trade with Xu Lai and return to the Moon Clan.

Earth... I really don’t want to stay here anymore. She realized she had no control over Xu Lai whatsoever. This man was dangerous, and being around him was like dancing on a knife’s edge. Her life was at risk at any mont!

Ji Jie was not ready to die; she still had so many things to do.

Things like skinning my adorable younger brother to make a new set of clothes, or perhaps a perfect specin. Things like finding the sword in the Quasi-Emperor’s Tomb to trade for half a Nine Revolutions Immortal Pill and advance my boundary and cultivation level. And... things like leaving this place. Not just the Solar System, not the Milky Way, not even the Immortal Domain, but leaving this dark, despair-inducing place.

...

Ruan Lan had been very happy for the past few days, as she’d been enjoying a hearty late-night snack every evening.

At eleven o’clock that night, after another satisfying al, Ruan Lan lay on her side with the complete absence of a lady’s grace. The hem of her nightgown was slightly rolled up, and a pair of long, snow-white legs were casually draped over the coffee table, dazzling under the light.

Sipping her pearl milk tea, Ruan Lan said contentedly, "Brother-in-law, your cooking is as fantastic as ever!"

"You certainly are eating more than you used to," Xu Lai mused aloud. "Since the New Year, you must have gained at least twenty pounds, right?"

"HUH???" Ruan Lan’s eyes went wide. She slapped the sofa in a fit of sha and anger. "That’s ridiculous! I’ve only gained less than two pounds!"

"Hmm." Xu Lai looked Ruan Lan over with an expression of regret. "It seems those two pounds didn’t go to the right places."

Ruan Lan: ???

That rotten brother-in-law, he’s picking on again! Argh!

She yelled at the top of her lungs, "Sis, my brother-in-law is being a perv—"

Xu Lai quickly clapped a hand over her mouth, his face dark. "So you don’t want any more late-night snacks, is that it? You actually tattled on ."

"It’s your fault for calling fat," Ruan Lan retorted, prying his hand away indignantly.

"My gentle, sweet, and cute sister-in-law has slimd down," Xu Lai lied through his teeth.

"Hehe." Ruan Lan happily slapped Xu Lai on the shoulder. "See, my brother-in-law has good taste. I’ll temporarily forgive your nonsense from before."

"From one hundred and thirty-two pounds down to one hundred and thirty."

"..."

Ruan Lan was on the verge of a breakdown. She had gained two pounds, but that only put her at barely a hundred. Where in the world did one hundred and thirty co from?!

She lunged at him like a hungry tiger, ready to bite him to death, but Xu Lai simply sidestepped and vanished from the spot.

"Rember to clean up the bowls and chopsticks," Xu Lai’s voice instructed as he closed his bedroom door, leaving Ruan Lan fuming on the couch. "That rotten brother-in-law! How dare he slander like that! He’s absolutely infuriating!"

「Inside the room.」

Ruan Tang put down her book and asked softly, "What were you and Ruan Lan arguing about downstairs again?"

"Nothing much." Xu Lai lay on the bed, wrapping his arms around Ruan Tang’s soft, fragrant body. He felt ti itself slow to a crawl.

A warm bed with his wife and child... This is what a man should strive for in life.

"Honey, if you can, wrap up your company business tomorrow. The day after, we’ll go back to the sect."

By "the sect," he naturally ant the grounds of the Old Heavenly Court’s sect gate. Xu Lai had already discussed with Ruan Tang about holding a wedding ceremony there after the banquet in East Sea. It was not only to fulfill one of his own long-held wishes, but also to introduce Ruan Tang and Yiyi to his master and fellow disciples.

"Okay," Ruan Tang readily agreed.

"There are still four jars of Plum Wine buried on the mountain behind the Heavenly Court," Xu Lai chuckled. "It’s a bit sour and sharp, so be prepared."

"Didn’t you say there were five jars before?" Ruan Tang shot him a look. "Did you sneak one last ti you went?"

"Drinking wine made by your own family isn’t stealing. Besides, I shared it with my master, senior sister, and two senior brothers."

"Really?" Ruan Tang pinched Xu Lai’s cheek, smiling playfully. "Well, you’d better drink less this ti, and rember to say lots of nice things about ."

"You got it," Xu Lai agreed. "Honey, we should get so rest."

"I’m not sleepy. I’ll read a bit longer."

"I think you’re sleepy," Xu Lai said with grave seriousness.

A blush crept onto Ruan Tang’s face. She knew exactly what he was up to. "I have to get up early for a eting at the company tomorrow," she said shyly. "Don’t bully tonight, just let get a good night’s sleep."

"I won’t bully you. We can have a eting of our own."

"..."

Ruan Tang was taken aback. What kind of eting could the two of them possibly have?

As the lights were switched off, she slowly began to understand what he ant by "eting."

Mmm... A little nightly eting between husband and wife.
