Fingers lightly moved, rubbing against the phone, the streams in his heart beca thicker, the fine warmth grew, sothing began to shout, constantly suppressing the cold arrogance in his heart.
Then, this arrogance was slowly subdued under the streams, pressured into the corner, not daring to co out again.
His knuckles curled, he stared at the dense night outside the window for a long ti, then picked up the phone and dialed a number.
Dostic.
Ava Sterling returned to the study, no longer slling the unpleasant bitter dicine, her mind quickly went back on track, and soon she was imrsed in the story, her thoughts following the plot.
Mrs. Wei kept the house immaculately clean, whenever sothing was amiss, she would tidy it up, even better than the housekeeper Ava had hired.
But after tidying up, the candy hadn’t been delivered, Mrs. Wei looked at the dicine on the coffee table and touched the bowl to check its temperature, it had already lost its warmth.
The dicine was probably cold now.
She took the dicine to the kitchen to warm it up.
Just as she heated it, the door was knocked.
Mrs. Wei imdiately left the kitchen to answer the door.
The delivery man stood at the door with a bag, seeing Mrs. Wei, he handed the bag to her.
Mrs. Wei quickly took it, saying, "Thank you."
"You’re welco."
The delivery was made, and the delivery man left, Mrs. Wei looked at the bag, it was quite exquisite, not the usual kind, she opened the bag to check inside.
She looked to see what kind of candy was inside.
Next ti the lady has to take dicine, she’ll buy this kind of candy to prepare in advance.
The bag contained about half a pound of candy, once opened it revealed lollipops wrapped in refined oil paper, in various colors, round and small, with illustrations of cartoon characters, flowers, plants on the candy paper, appealing at first glance.
Mrs. Wei picked up the candy to examine the brand, all marked in English, which she couldn’t read.
However, she could take a picture, and buy the sa candy next ti.
Mrs. Wei took out her phone to photograph the candy.
After capturing it all, she looked toward the study.
The door was closed, nothing stirred inside.
The lady had probably forgotten to take her dicine, thinking this, Mrs. Wei checked the ti, then returned to the kitchen to see the warmth of the dicine.
If the dicine was warm, she would bring it out for the lady to drink.
However, as she reached the kitchen to check the dicine, her phone rang.
Mrs. Wei stopped, picking up the phone to see the caller ID, unexpectedly, it was Poe Vaughn’s call.
Seeing the words "Sir" on the screen, Mrs. Wei quickly answered, then, realizing sothing, she imdiately looked outside the kitchen to see if Ava had co out.
Fortunately not, but she should be careful not to let the lady know the gentleman was calling, asking about her condition.
The call connected, Mrs. Wei whispered, "Sir."
Poe Vaughn listened to the obvious suppressed voice from the phone, his gaze subtly moved, he spoke, "How is the lady’s health?"
"She seems much better, looks quite spirited, even has a good appetite, she ate two bowls of rice this evening."
Mrs. Wei spoke while glancing outside, towards the closed study door, "The lady is in the study reading now, I’m in the kitchen warming the dicine."
Mrs. Wei conveyed Ava’s condition to Poe Vaughn, reassuring him.
Poe’s gaze fell ahead, a deep color in his eyes flickered with Mrs. Wei’s words, "The lady hasn’t taken her dicine yet?"
"Yes."
"The lady fears the bitterness of dicine, there was no candy at ho, it has just been delivered, I’m waiting for the dicine to warm, then will bring it to her."
Poe Vaughn, upon hearing "The lady fears the bitterness of dicine," his gaze paused.
Afraid of bitter dicine...
That he hadn’t expected.
His fingers subtly moved, he spoke, "Give the phone to the lady."
Mrs. Wei was stunned, she stopped looking outside, "Sir...do you want to speak with the lady?"
"Yes."
The low voice was utterly certain, Mrs. Wei responded quickly, "Alright."
If the sir wants to talk to the lady, calling her directly would be more suitable, but now the sir is talking to her using Mrs. Wei’s phone, though a bit strange, it was nothing.
If the lady feels puzzled, she’d say the sir instructed her with sothing, then queried the lady’s status.
It’s that simple.
Thinking this, Mrs. Wei imdiately went out, knocked on the study door.
Ava Sterling was at a climactic part of the plot, her entire heart lifted, incredibly tense.
At such a mont, the knocking sound interrupted Ava’s enthusiastic mood, her face instantly turned dark.
However, she contained her temper, spoke, "Co in."
At ho it’s Mrs. Wei, if Mrs. Wei knocks, it’s surely sothing.
Mrs. Wei heard Ava’s voice, opened the door quickly, walked to the sofa, handed the phone to Ava, whose eyes were still on the book, "Ma’am, it’s a call from the gentleman."
Though Ava was interrupted, she still looked on, her face clearly not pleased, looking irritable.
But hearing Mrs. Wei’s words, Ava was taken aback, "Poe Vaughn?"
She looked at Mrs. Wei, very surprised, not glancing at the phone.
What was Poe Vaughn calling her for?
At that mont, Ava completely forgot about the ssage she had sent to Poe Vaughn earlier that day.
Mrs. Wei smiled, seeing Ava’s face full of surprise, said, "Yes, it’s the gentleman."
Ava’s mouth opened slightly, lashes fluttered, took down the book, looking at the phone Mrs. Wei handed her.
The screen clearly displayed call in progress.
He called Mrs. Wei to speak, what’s his purpose?
Though puzzled, Ava took the phone, placed it to her ear, "Hello."
In the car, everything was silent, all the sounds seed to be subrged deep, without a trace of movent.
But as the clear, surprised voice ca through the phone, the atmosphere in the car instantly changed.
As if everything ca back to life, flourishing.
Poe Vaughn held the phone, listening to her voice laced with puzzled doubts, opened his mouth, "Take your dicine."
Ava: "..."
Starting with "take your dicine," Ava’s face imdiately darkened.
They hadn’t contacted each other for two days, although she didn’t expect him to say anything pleasant, but to start with "take your dicine," however one listens, it feels off-putting.
With a sullen face, Ava replied, "I know!"
Her voice was clearly displeased, not the least bit gentle.
Poe Vaughn heard this annoyed tone, clearly expressing her dissatisfaction towards him.
Not hiding anything, nor pretending.
Extrely genuine.
He said, "Don’t hang up, go out and drink the dicine now."
Ava: "..."
She had already said she knew, yet he hovered over her as if scrutinizing a convict, what’s the point?
Did he think her words were just a casual excuse?
Ava couldn’t stand it, she directly said, "Poe Vaughn, is it necessary?"
"Although I dislike taking dicine, I care about my health very much!"
"I wouldn’t joke with my own health."}
"Besides, if my health is not great, it’s related to you."
Originally, she hadn’t intended to bla him, but now his words were irritating, she had to say it.
"Related to ..."
Poe’s gaze deepened.
Ava imdiately snorted, straight out saying, "Of course! If you didn’t keep up every day, depriving of good sleep, would this happen?"
"I intended to discuss it when you return, but since we’re on the topic now, I’ll say it straight, in the future we must go to bed by eleven!"
"You can’t keep having stay up late with you, otherwise, we’ll separate rooms!"
Ava was very firm, health is of utmost importance, everything else stays aside.
With good health cos a good future, she’s well aware.
Poe Vaughn listened to each righteous sentence, as if her illness was truly his fault, he lowered his gaze, dark eyes deepened, "Okay, go take your dicine."
