The group was finishing their lunch when a Dwarven woman ca over with a sheepish look and a blueprint tube in her hands.
Wolfe gestured her over. He didn’t recognize this woman from any of his visits to the workshops, so she was likely married to one of them, and here with her kids to let them swim.
Dwarves didn’t mind cold water, and being outdoors at all was a form of vacation for the subterranean space loving species.
"Your Majesty, Sir. I hate to be a bother, but I have a proposal that I wanted to show you, but not in public at the hearings." She began.
"Co have an iced tea and so cake. Let’s see what you’ve got for today." Wolfe agreed.
She looked startled that he just agreed so easily. He was a King, and out with his advisors and wives. All she had really expected was to manage to get an appointnt set by the butler.
Wolfe motioned for Monika, Francisca and lanie to join them, as all three were engineering nerds. If anyone would fully appreciate what a Dwarven inventor was trying to make, it would be them.
The blueprints were unrolled and Wolfe looked down at so sort of railroad cart. He spent a few minutes trying to decipher what was so great about a cart to move people, but Monika caught on faster.
"A rollercoaster?" She asked.
The woman nodded. "Can you see it? Start it at the top of the mountain, run across the valley, twist and turn, dive underground through the tunnels, climb back to loop over the vineyards, then return."
That sounded like it was guaranteed to terrify nearly everyone at so point in the loop. Great heights, high speeds, agoraphobia, narrow tunnels for the claustrophobic.
Then the Dwarf flipped pages, and pointed to an empty section of the cliffs on the worker side. "I was thinking that we could make a water park with slides, perhaps a steam sauna and hot baths. That could be the starting point for the rollercoaster, and we could have other events like bumper cars and hamr smash."
"So, a full-fledged carnival? That sort of park could be a lot of fun, I think. The area isn’t intended as a tourist destination, but we do have nurous guests here." Monika noted.
The pentacle mbers gathered to look at the plans, and Cassie ca up with a suggestion.
"Why don’t we attach it to one of the hotels? It can be a guest attraction. That will encourage people to splurge on their visit, without adding attractions that people co here just to visit.
We’re trying to keep the tourists to the actual cities, so the town isn’t overrun with outsiders and security risks." She offered.
The Dwarf nodded. "So that is why things are set up like this, without encouraging outsiders? I get it now. I thought that it was just because the city was new."
Wolfe smiled. "If the locals want more entertainnt, we’re happy to build it, and this park looks like it might be a great addition, so if you can leave copies with us now, or with the Butler later, he will get them to the right people to get the designs finalized and implented."
The woman smiled at them. "So, you like my plans?"
Wolfe nodded. "We do. More entertainnt for the locals is always a good thing. It might get split up into a few other locations, but I think that the rollercoaster could be a nice touch for visitors. They could see everything without walking around, and it would be exciting enough to be morable.
That is the important part. We want this to be a mory that they retain, and not just so boring bureaucratic eting. It gives a sense of reverence that prevents stupid questions."
The Pentacle mbers chuckled. Most of the castle was designed like that. They wanted to impress the guests and make them feel small, while those with power would feel at ho. It helped them rember that the Castle residents weren’t their personal assistants to take care of every little issue in their lives when they could be doing it themselves.
The hearings were more in the nature of public interest and justice hearings, not for personal vendettas, as so seed to think.
The Dwarven woman was super excited to find out that they were going to work with her plans, and Wolfe saw the maid nod as Monika had her note down the woman’s information so they could call on her later to help with the final plans.
There was no need to do it all themselves when they had the initial designer right here.
As she was getting up to leave, one of the other won ca over with a small object in her hands.
"Your Majesties, I didn’t think I would get a chance to do this in person. But I wanted to be the first. This is a Dwarven tradition, and I hope that nobody beat to it." She spoke softly, so she didn’t wake the exhausted children back in their group.
She held the item out, and Wolfe realized that it was three small chisels.
"Soone always gets the hamrs and tongs early, but I bet this is their first engraving chisel." She explained.
Cassie smiled and hugged her awkwardly, as Dwarves were short, and she was very pregnant. The gift of first smithy tools was the greatest gift Dwarves could give to a child. It was a sign of great respect and good wishes for the child’s future.
On the other hand, if they were going to low-key insult you, they would offer the child writing tools instead.
"Thank you. Yes, these are the first chisels, and is this the mark of a Master Smith?"
The woman nodded. "I might not be up to the standard of my husband, but I am a Rank Two Master Smith, and I made them myself. I have had them in my storage bag for the public baby shower, but today seed like just the right mont."
