General Warma sighed as he looked for an answer to the dilemma that he had found himself faced with. Wolfe had taken all of the most powerful mages, and the hidden knowledge that King Petros had sent them to obtain.
But nobody short of the King himself had the ability to stop Wolfe from doing what he wanted, and the Mages had already been brought through the portal to Wolfe’s hotown, where there were dozens of layers of protective magic preventing their return, even if they didn’t have a peace treaty with the Magi Saint.
"I suppose the last step is to inform Petros that all of the targeted Mage Towers are now in your possession. That will not be a fun conversation, so I would like to have you with for that part. Your explanation should go a long way to calming his wrath." General Warma insisted.
"Of course. But don’t tell him that I’m here right away, it will be more fun that way." Wolfe replied.
The General didn’t see how this conversation was going to be in any way entertaining, but he cast the spell to contact King Petros in the capital back on the Fallen ho world.
[Your Majesty, I have an update on the battle situation here.] General Warma announced to the spell, doing his best to sound confident.
[It had better be good news. I am opening a Portal now.] The King’s voice snapped back, and the General’s face turned terrified.
True to his word, a portal opened seconds later, and a group of Royal Guards stepped through,
"General, please accompany us. Bring your advisors as well." The guard insisted, then noticed Wolfe standing beside him.
"Saint Noxus? What are you doing here? If you wish to see the King, I am afraid that he is rather busy today." The guard replied.
"That is fine, I am sowhat integral to today’s reports, so I will quietly accompany the General as an advisor, in case there are questions that he cannot answer.
I won’t be a distraction at all. See, I have a solid disguise spell."
Wolfe shielded his aura, so that very few would feel his presence, and then changed his outfit to match the armour of the soldiers, which hid his face.
Petros would see through it the first ti that he actually looked at Wolfe, but it would keep from causing a commotion.
"Good enough for . This way, please. The King has called back all of his Generals after the reports of the last hour."
General Warma gave Wolfe a faint smile, then stepped forward, letting Wolfe fall in with the four senior officers who were accompanying the General to the eting.
The portal led straight to the throne room, where a hundred other groups were already present and waiting.
King Petros looked up from his throne, where he was going through reports, and nodded his head.
"Good, everyone is here. Now, who has a report for other than that the resistance forces have completely vanished without a trace?" King Petros demanded.
General Warma sighed and stepped forward.
"Your Majesty, I believe that I have the answer to that. There was an incident today, while one of my units had a tower under siege, trying to convince the occupants to surrender. Saint Noxus of Forest Grove showed up with a female Mage, and requested that the Mages bring any friends willing to permanently leave the planet to co teach magic in his holand."
General Warma’s face went pale as King Petros turned red with rage.
"Damn that Magi. I should have known that he would use the loophole of that world not being fully conquered to steal the best of the instructors for himself." King Petros raged.
General Warma looked nervous, knowing that the man in question was actually standing right behind him.
"Do you have instructions, Your Majesty?" General Warma asked hopefully.
"No, if he’s already grabbed them, I will make a deal with him so that we can still get the essential magical knowledge beyond the early ranks. Who would have thought that the mages would be so stubborn? They even burned the Libraries when we invaded." King Petros ranted.
Now it made sense to Wolfe why they wanted the towers so badly. The locals had destroyed all the other magical knowledge that they had stored, so it was only what was left in the towers, and they had to get them to surrender and co out without destroying their records, or that would be lost as well.
"Is the portal still open to his world? It is easiest if I go straight to where we know he is." King Petros demanded after a mont’s thought.
"Actually, Your Majesty, Saint Noxus insisted on following here, in case I couldn’t answer the questions you asked about the incident." General Warma stamred.
Wolfe waved at the King, and Petros glared back at him.
"If you were already here, you could have just said sothing." Petros nearly growled.
"It was more entertaining to watch you holding court. You know, I don’t get to do that, so it’s fun to watch. But it was just as the General said, we had fifteen Saints advance at the sa ti, and that led to a massive mana overflow that awakened the abilities of nearly everyone past puberty in town, and caused countless advancents.
So, we needed more Mages to help train our humans, beastkin and such. I ca to grab so from a tower here, on the recomndation of one of the other mages in Forest Grove, and the Mages here chose to bring a bunch more with them.
We didn’t take all of them, though. As I recall, the others said they would rather die than leave their holand."
King Petros sighed. "You do understand that you’re an enormous pain in the ass, do you not?"
The Generals and advisors in the room looked stunned at the insult, but Wolfe just smiled.
"Look at it this way, we’ve got them safe and they’re teaching new mages. You don’t need to take the towers, just wait until they’ve got new mages trained up that you can hire. There are a couple of cute beastkin from the servant exchange program who advanced to Rank Two during the incident, and they might make great Royal Servants once their knowledge matches their power."
