Chapter 75: Adam’s Experience!
"Back then, we were still hotheaded, and having many achievents to our nas, we dared to take this mission, with barely two of us knowing so fundantal information about devils." Adam started recounting his experience with everybody listening carefully, as rarely did seniors like him speak about themselves, let alone about their failures.
"The others knew; it’s not that we were ignorant, but we didn’t know enough."
"Far from enough..."
We were up against a slave trader; he was the contractor of the devil, and he hid his slaves in a cave 2 days away from the sect by ship.
We had it easy; the devil contractor was surrounded by bandits who feared him and spoke about him openly; thus, in barely a week, we took care of the bandits easily and cornered the devil contractor, the slave trader, in the cave, and waited casually for the devil to show up.
We had all preparations at hand; 3 of us were always on the lookout, ready to use the ’Restraining Order’ on the devil the second it dared show its face to us.
But we underestimated its strength and overestimated ourselves as cultivators as well as our plans.
Most of our missions so far had been delivering ssages and guarding a town for a few weeks to a few months, and those tis we’ve barely dealt with humans and beasts.
Never had we actually co across the true enemies of humanity and their countless ans.
It was an incubus devil.
It ca out slowly and confidently, its voice reaching us before we even laid eyes on its face, and just like that, our entire plans crumbled like dust.
Our own teammates turned against us. Those we considered brothers and sisters, the ones we trusted to restrain the devil, turned to his side, and the others close by betrayed us, killing half of us before we could even realize what was going on.
The rest of us escaped, and we left the devil with our sisters at hand, our brothers dead, and his laughter that still wakes up at night to this day.
Since then, my glory was long gone, my ranking fell down day by day, and by the ti I knew it, I was only known as Adam, the wealthiest of the outer sect disciples; my days of standing at the top and my hopes of becoming an inner sect disciple, even an official disciple... gone.
Just like that.
A complete defeat, one that still followed him to this day. This was the summary of Adam’s experience.
"I can’t understand how you did it; all I can say is that I and everybody else underestimated you." Adam looked at Ken; his deanor was slowly coming back to him.
"You know how to plan your steps well; that’s what I... what we lacked, and that is why we failed... miserably." Adam concluded his talk, and the entire staff room once again plunged into silence.
’I’m sure the elders and the other disciples would think like ... or they know about him more than I do... In case, his standing as the genius disciple of this generation is set.’ Adam looked at Ken as his thoughts ran through his mind.
’My plans are going well; in a year or so, I will finally break through and beco a foundation establishnt realm individual. by then, my past glory will co back stronger than ever, and my chance of becoming an official disciple will skyrocket.’ Adam thought to himself.
’Having a connection with Ken would always co back to help ; it’s worth more trouble than just opening the VIP room for a day... I won big.’ Adam almost smiled, but he held himself.
"That promise I made you still stands. Today is the 3rd of the week; I will open it the night of the 7th and close it the night of the first." Adam spoke to Ken, but his words made the entire room light up.
"You can bring whoever you want; the room can hold up to 500 people." Adam lightly ntioned it and stood up, disappearing more mightily than he appeared.
"Whoaaah! You heard that??! 500 people—it’s going to be big! I can bring my batch’s entire top 100!" Alissa jumped from her seat once she heard these words, but nobody could care about her small antics right now; they were also holding back from doing the sa.
The VIP room, the top floor of a mighty establishnt right in the heart of the outer sect.
It’s visited daily by all disciples and is as big as an entire village.
Holding only the most luxurious of stores and establishnts, it’s owned by Adam and Adam alone, but many disciples, elders, and even the top echelon of the sect have shares and ownerships within this establishnt of his.
It is said that Adam and his family own a chain of such establishnts throughout almost half of the eastern lands.
They were beyond wealthy; they were the wealthiest.
This went to show the diversity of the disciples that co to the sect, as well as how the sect benefits and rewards promising individuals no matter their field of expertise, like allowing Adam to own an entire village’s worth of land in their holy sect.
The gatherings are all held within one of the rooms of the Continental Pavilion, owned by Adam.
The largest establishnt within the outer sect when it cos to luxuries and entertainnt.
And the VIP room was the most prized room in that establishnt, and it’s only opened once or twice a year by Adam when he wants to entertain the elders and/or important disciples.
And sotis he makes such promises to disciples, but those tis the VIP room isn’t opened for everybody like he did with Ken, only a small circle that wouldn’t take much from him.
Thus, the next few days were spent in preparation for the opening of the VIP room, and disciples from the top 100 of Ken, Lu, and Adam’s batch were all called.
The other 200 were left if elders, inner sect disciples, core, and official disciples wanted to co.
Everybody, young and old, knew that this gathering would be the most important in a long, long ti, and Ken...
Is the star of the show.
