When the SS-Rank upgrade for the Karma Elent started, William had already collected almost two dozen Severed Karma Threads. In comparison, triple that number of threads had snapped but so didn't produce a thread of their own.

William's body was incredibly weak at this point, and he needed so ti to recover from the period of weakness before upgrading the Karma Elent any more. According to the System, this would take anywhere from three to eight days, depending on whether William had to fight again during the ti fra.

That said, William now had the required material to Ascend his Resist Karma Talent, which he started imdiately. There was no reason to hold back on William's resistances, since they were key to surviving the dangerous Talent upgrades.

If William could help it, he would make sure to raise all of his Resistances to the peak so he could rge them. With the sheer number of materials and Potential Points going into their upgrades, he was sure that it would at least be a Mythic Talent!

-1,000,000 PP

-Detected the Host has multiple suitable materials. Select a Karma Thread to consu.

Does it matter which Thread I use? William asked.

-It doesn't matter. As long as your material ets the requirents, it can be used. The standards I have set are already quite high to ensure you get the most out of your upgrade.

Aweso. I was hoping you'd say that. William replied as he pulled out the weakest Karma Thread of the bunch and selected it for the System.

With a puff of pink smoke, the Karma Thread turned into fine particles that were sucked into William's chest. A few blurry mories appeared in William's mind, but they could hardly be distinguished and disappeared in an instant.

-Consud Karma Thread. Talent Ascension in progress...

The weakened feeling in William's body suddenly burst forth in storm, making him yelp in surprise as an intense pain cracked his skin, muscles, and even his bones. As ti went on, the pain only beca more unbearable and even his natural vitality was effected.

Health: 2.6m/6m

The Ascended Recovery Talent did its best to restore the damage, stabilizing William's condition for the half hour that the upgrade progressed for while simultaneously taking away almost sixty years of his lifespan.

Ouch! I didn't expect that at all! William complained as he inspected his newly healed hands. The System had yet to inform him of the successful Ascension, but at least the pain had stopped.

-When your Talents are Ascended, I have to temporarily take them back and transform them into sothing new. Because of this, the weakening from your Karma upgrades were in full effect.

William understood that he had subtly made a mistake without realizing it. That said, he was once again thankful for continuing to support the then Regeneration Talent into what it was now. If he hadn't chosen to rge it with the others and then Ascend it to Ascended Recovery, William probably would have died long ago.

With a hundred and fifty tis more resistance to the effects of Karma than the average Cultivator of his Realm, William felt slightly unstoppable. He had yet to experience an attack related to the Karma Elent, but William guessed that a Mythic Elent couldn't be weak.

-That's not true.

What's not true?

-You were targeted by the Karma Elent a few tis before; you just didn't realize it.

Really? William scanned his mory for any indication of a Karmic attack, but it was too difficult. It wasn't a matter of mory, but that he didn't know exactly what to look for.

-Request requires 15 Potential Points. Yes/No?

If it's only fifteen Points, sure why not?

-The Wild Clover waitress known as Su Yanyu from the Five Elents Sect. Born as a dual Karma/Fate Manamatus and simultaneously gifted with high ntal acuity and decent Soul Strength, Su Yanyu manipulated you and many others into visiting her restaurant more often and providing larger than usual tips.

-At the sa ti, she made sure you didn't always rember who waited on you so you wouldn't get suspicious. Secretly, she was the most powerful Outer Core Disciple in the Five Elents Sect when you were a Disciple, but she kept her Affinities hidden even from the Sect Elders.

Damn it! I can't believe she used like this! William didn't care if he was manipulated into visiting Wild Clover more often but forcing him to pay higher tips was absolutely unacceptable! His fingers turned white as he clenched his knuckles, but he loosened them a few monts later.

Su Yanyu may be around the sa age as William, but they were probably Worlds apart now when it ca to strength. Even if she had two Mythic Elents from the start, William's strength grew leaps and bounds every month, and it was still increasing even now after reaching the peak of the World.

If William were to et Su Yanyu again, she probably would be at most a Realm stronger than Gunther or Tia. Not only that but...

William smiled ingratiatingly, as if he had beco a wise and magnanimous old man that didn't care about Worldly matters. It happened a long ti ago; there's no point in dwelling on it. You can continue, System.

-The Cultivator Glen from Retribution was given a device that regularly sent artificial Karma Threads to and from your body, helping him track your Karma throughout the Gravitas Ruins as long as he was relatively near. This device was slowly destroyed over ti by your Attack Reflection Talent.

-Torc the Gold-Ranked Adventurer's Karmic attachnt to you allowed... allowed...

The System suddenly cut off, making William confused.

System?

-I miscalculated. To answer the remainder of your question, the cost is 1.5 Trillion Potential Points. Yes/No?

T-Trillion?!? William's eyes suddenly widened in shock.

He rembered Torc relatively clearly. He was the first person with a low Cultivation that had impressed him, having a unique fighting style and even able to fight multiple opponents with similar ability at the sa ti.

It was also around Torc that William had killed his first human, having been attacked multiple tis secretly while fighting a Foundation Establishnt Wind Wolf. If not for the Adventurer, William probably would have killed a second human and regretted it very much later.

After completing his Quest to reach Gold-Rank, William had joined Torc on a long trip to Blue Moon City, where William's real journey started. Thinking back on all these events gave William a lot of nostalgia, but one question was on William's mind at the current mont.

What was so special about Torc that the System would suddenly increase the price of the Ask Function to such an absurd amount?
