Eventually, the enemies finally showed their trump card… but it was one that Rain wasn't expecting at all. While the whole place was trembling, several parts began to disconnect from the base, and then the sound of engines began to spread across the area.
Before long, everyone saw several parts of the base flying away from it… even the massive cannon suddenly was recharged with mana and began to split into countless parts that began to leave the base.
"What the…" Rain said, and then his surprises continued when he suddenly felt the gravity disappearing.
The protective barrier that enveloped the entire base suddenly dissipated, leaving the area exposed to the vacuum of outer space. A collective gasp escaped from Rain, and the others as the atmosphere within the base was rapidly sucked away.
The abrupt disappearance of the barrier created a surreal sensation. The once-stable environnt turned chaotic, with loose objects and debris hurtling into the vacuum. The absence of gravity further disoriented the fighters, causing them to float aimlessly for a mont.
Panic set in as they grappled with the sudden weightlessness, their bodies adjusting to the absence of the familiar force that kept them grounded.
Everyone was using their suits even now, but Rain sustained so damage when he felt the air feeling his lungs all of a sudden. Still, he quickly deployed his domain and then went to make everyone enter it before flying away from the base.
"Where are we going?" Asche asked.
"The place is about to self-destruct… I think…" Rain said. "We don't want to be here when that happens."
Everyone had bad mories when it ca to self-destruction… the dragons used that technique all the ti when they were cornered, after all. Rain tried to move away as soon as possible, but soon they saw the whole structure collapsing as soon as so massive containers filled with mana liquid and the entire cannon beca massive blocks and flew in the opposite direction of them…
The planets began to move in a weird way, and soon they tried to resu their normal trajectories, or so Rain thought… they kept moving as if there was still sothing connecting them, and then two of the four planets collided against each other… Rain's heart stopped beating when he saw that… a massive disaster was about to happen, but fortunately, the worlds basically just scratched each other… they lost a small part of their bodies, but soon they began to move in different directions.
Amidst the chaos of the now destroyed base and the collision of planets, countless debris scattered in all directions. Rocks, tal shards, and fragnts of the once-massive base floated through the vacuum of space, creating a hazardous obstacle course.
Rain and the others, using the domain, skillfully avoided the unpredictable path of the debris. Pyramid-shaped pieces of tal, remnants of the base's structure, tumbled and twirled in the emptiness, reflecting the distant light of the stars.
The scene was a surreal ballet of destruction, and it was hard to determine if the mission had been an absolute success. The enemies' base was in shambles, and the planets had narrowly avoided a catastrophic collision. However, the toll on the environnt and the potential consequences of the abrupt destruction lingered in the air.
Rain's mind raced with thoughts about the consequences of exposing the base to outer space. The enemies had indeed played their trump card, but the price was high, and the collateral damage extended beyond the battlefield. The debris served as a haunting reminder of the power struggles among beings with imnse magical capabilities.
"Sorry, I should have alerted you all that this could happen, but I was too busy gathering information," Sakaki said. "In the end, that entire place was just an outpost of another civilization. An outpost created to destroy civilizations that just beca interplanetary."
Rain began to think about that… a re outpost caused them so much trouble, they even couldn't destroy the whole place in several hours, even though it didn't have a single living being there. As for his friends, they were completely astonished by that news and by the fact that other people in the cosmos would try to kill them for apparent no reason."
"It looks like so people are pretty afraid of competition despite their own advancents," Elisabetha said. "Still, now I can understand why the dragon god didn't pay any attention to Earth in the last one hundred years."
The group floated through space, contemplating the information Sakaki had shared. Elisabetha's observation lingered in the air as they considered the implications of the cosmic threat they had just faced.
Rain, reflecting on the dragon god's indifference toward Earth, began to piece together a very reasonable explanation. The universe was vast, with countless civilizations and entities wielding unimaginable power.
The dragon god, despite being an imnsely powerful being himself, might have realized that his ability to destroy worlds and civilizations wasn't unique or exceptional in the grand sche of the cosmos.
The dragon god's decision to ignore Earth for the past century wasn't a sign of negligence, but rather a recognition that the universe held challenges and adversaries comparable to his own might. The outpost they had encountered was rely a small outpost of a much larger and advanced civilization, a reminder that there were forces out there capable of rivaling the dragon god's strength.
Perhaps even surpassing him…
In hindsight, it seed the dragon god understood the nature of the outpost—a tool for destroying civilizations that had achieved interplanetary status. Perhaps he assud it insignificant in the broader context of the cosmic struggles and chose not to intervene, knowing that eliminating such outposts wouldn't grant him any substantial increase in power.
"... Let's return," Rain said. "We need to find the Star vessel and warn them as soon as possible that we will have to be more cautious from now on. Anyway, I take it that you obtained so more information. More than ever, knowledge is power."
