— A Month Later —
It was on a Tuesday that Necro's EP counter surpassed the 5000 mark. And seeing how that was the exact amount he needed to advance to Rank 5, he spent almost all of it right away.
[At the cost of 5000 EP, you comnce your evolution into the next major rank!]
OOOM!
Necro was engulfed in a large congregation of blackish-red light. Its energy particles seeped into his woody skin, nourishing the core of his existence.
With the enlargent of the blackish-red light, his size grew appropriately.
110 feet…
150 feet…
200 feet…
300 feet…
500 feet…
It was only after roughly 600 feet that Necro quit growing in height!
Massive!
From 200 ters in the sky, Necro could view a lot more than before. The trees that once looked pretty big now seed so small. And in the southern distance, what appeared to be the outlines of human-made structures could be barely made out.
"With this evolution, the humans are sure to notice ," said Necro as his more defined crystalized eyes narrowed. "But I'm not scared."
*Ding!*
[You have succeeded in evolving from a Rank 4 (Genuine Willow Tree) to a Rank 5 (Elder Willow Tree)]
[Level 4 Evolution Tree components have been unlocked!]
[The effectiveness of all abilities has trendously improved!]
[Range of Roots is now 1000 ters in all directions!]
[With your Evolution to the Rank 5 Elder Willow Tree, the maximum limit on summonable Shadow Tree Soldiers has increased from (5) → (10)]
[Total number of Branches has gone from (20) → (100)]
[Total number of Roots has gone from (40) → (60)]
[You have unlocked the 2nd System Function: 'Divine Sight']
"Divine Sight?" Necro repeated. "What are its uses—"
BLING!
Just then, thousands of illusory blue screens opened up on every object in a thousand-ter radius. They were only there for a brief mont before Necro was forced to turn them off, but even that was enough to nearly blind him.
['Divine Sight' allows the Host to reveal the system interfaces of anything inanimate or alive within 3 Major Realms of yourself. If the target of Divine Sight exceeds the 3 Major Realm paraters, then question marks will take the place of information in the system interfaces.]
"I see…" Necro muttered. "Then please activate this ability on that tree over there."
BLING!
{[Dead Oak Tree (Rankless)]}
— [Appears to have been heavily damaged by Demon Beasts]}
"Interesting," Necro mused before shifting his focus to a mutated rabbit hopping around below him. "Use Divine Sight on that as well."
BLING!
{[Two-Horned Demon Rabbit]}
[Age: 6/59]
[Cultivation: Skin Refinent Realm (Mid)]
[Main Skills: Jumping Kick, Super Leap, Ten-Kick Frenzy (All below Low-Mortal Grade)]
— [Descended from the Giant Hopping Rabbit, and is typically found hanging around areas of great devastation]
"So this is Divine Sight," Necro noted. "It'll definitely be useful for the future when I wish to better approximate the strength of others."
After digesting his recent gains, he took a better look at his appearance from a third perspective. Almost imdiately, he realized that he was becoming more and more demonic-looking.
"But I guess this suits my personality best…"
In this world, death waited around every corner.
To avoid that outco, one needed to be ruthless. Unforgiving. rciless.
"Yi Yu was too kind," Necro murmured. "That's why she… died…"
People like her were easily taken advantage of. Sothing that Necro refused to be like.
"If I wish to continue on living, for the sake of Yi Yu and myself, then I have to forgo these Mortal emotions of mine," Necro uttered coldly. "I have to suppress them to the limit… to the point that only indifference and objective calculativeness remain."
And just like that, his expression frosted over as his volcanic anger hibernated deep inside him.
"Ti to continue becoming stronger…"
Ti passed ceaselessly, with the seasons rolling by one after the other.
So months later, in the dead of winter, an expedition was called for in the Greenfla Sect. It requested that Disciples of at least the Bone Refinent Stage venture forth into the Devastation and uncover anything related to the abnormally large glowing red and black tree.
Cutting off a few branches or collecting samples was also part of the job description.
*Thud! Thud!*
Heavy footsteps reverberated as a big and bulky man covered from head to toe in armor trudged through thick sheets of snow. His na was Yan Ro, and trailing behind him were over two dozen Greenfla Sect Disciples.
However, unlike him, who was in the Viscera Refinent Stage serving as one of the few Direct Disciples, they were rely in the Bone Refinent Stage and below. A few of them were Elite Disciples, though, possessing both enough power and status to command mortals in small Human Settlents.
"Gah! Why did the Higher-Ups even send out a request like this anyways!?" a hot-headed man with long red hair cursed under his breath. "Who gives a shit about so stupid tree?? I would much rather be out searching for cultivation resources, maybe so supre pills or sothing to get through my bottleneck!"
A snicker ca from beside him. It belonged to a swagger-looking man with a good sense of style.
"Whatcha laughing at, pretty boy!?"
"I'm laughing at you, you red-headed moron," the swagger man mocked. "What bottleneck are you even speaking of? It's more like an immovable wall that prevents you from advancing to the Viscera Refinent Realm, haha!"
"Wanna say that again…!?"
The two of them appeared to be on the verge of a brawl, but with a single word from Yan Ro, they quit the nonsense.
"Those two are always going at it," said Mi Lu, a short girl with a round, pretty face. "At this point, they might as well get it over with and sign the marriage contract."
"What marriage contract!?" the red-head and swagger n shouted in sync.
"Be quiet!" Yan Ro ordered. "If I hear anything more out of the two of you today, then reductions will be made to your sect contributions."
The troubleso pair were reluctant, but still nodded silently.
