Chapter 1657: Chapter 55 Six Paths of Reincarnation
All the attacks from the Dark Avalokitesvara earlier had been concentrated on the Hero-level individuals around it, which allowed the remaining mbers of the Trojan Squad to survive. Now, with the release of the Six Paths of Reincarnation, the weaker ones bore the brunt of the disaster.
“Defend!”
Panic-stricken cries rang out one after another. The Conquerors frantically activated their shields and various defensive abilities.
Whoosh, whoosh—ten thousand beams of golden light shot forth with fury. Like a red-hot dinner knife slicing through butter, or sunlight lting snow with blistering heat, all defenses below Hero level were pierced through.
Thunk, thunk—blood splattered from the lower-level Conquerors as the golden light pierced through them. It seed as though even their very souls were being roasted atop a scalding iron board.
Shrill and heartbreaking screams echoed, almost tearing through the vault of heaven.
“Sis, it’s all on you now!” Witnessing the horrific scene, Li Huiwen urgently activated Asura’s Wrath and sprinted toward Tao Ran’s side.
The golden light entered the Ti Barrier, slowing visibly, as if the slow-motion button had been pressed. In re monts, the beams were entirely engulfed by the river of ti, freezing and vanishing.
The first path: Heavenly Dao Radiance—purifying the filth of the world, restoring all to its origin.
The first wave of golden light swept through, leaving half the city riddled with holes, resembling a giant colander. Before anyone could catch their breath, the Light Gate rippled with brilliance, releasing a second wave of ten thousand golden beams.
“Group Leader, save us!” The low-level mbers shouted and hollered, desperate for their leader’s return.
Under the full-force bombardnt of the Dark Avalokitesvara, even Di Jingfei had no choice but to retreat montarily.
A giant appeared behind Lin Weiguo, shooting out chains of light that connected the mbers, enabling shared life energy to withstand the attacks.
Qin Yan was about to release Shadow Country but was stopped by Dantai.
“Don’t waste it—let Tao Ran take the hit.”
Qin Yan shot a questioning look toward Black Long Straight.
“I can handle it.” Tao Ran’s tone was resolute, her decision adamant. Even if it ant dying in battle, she was determined to endure, refusing to hold Tang Zheng back.
“If you can’t hold on, speak up,” Tang Zheng said, understanding her determination.
“She’ll be fine,” said the female knight with a faint smile. Chosen by Earl Qian Nian, she would certainly be capable of withstanding this level of defense.
All the group leaders returned to their teams, commanding defensive asures. Although the radiance continued to irradiate, the crowd scrambled in chaos but managed to remain montarily safe.
The third wave, the fourth wave!
“When is this going to end?” Soone’s face turned pale, reaching their limit.
The intervals between each wave of golden light were irregular. No one dared to pull down their defenses, relying solely on their life energy for continued endurance. The beams were just too fast, reaching in the blink of an eye.
“Can you hold on?” Tang Zheng, noticing Tao Ran sweating profusely, quickly pulled out a potion to replenish her life energy and fed it to her.
Black Long Straight flushed but didn’t refuse Tang Zheng’s gesture of kindness.
“Tang Group Leader, help us out? I’ll provide potions!”
One group leader pleaded for assistance. Other teams echoed the request, casting envious glances at Tao Ran and her Ti Barrier.
The golden light attacks dissipated more swiftly, no doubt thanks to the ti-based defense chanism. Any abilities involving ti, space, causality, or destiny would surely rank as SSS-grade top-tier powers. Even if their actual tier wasn’t high, the combat potential unleashed was undoubtedly formidable.
The Heavenly Dao attack lasted only three minutes, yet it decimated one-tenth of the survivors and drained a significant amount of life energy.
The only consolation was that the casualties were all lower-level individuals, with minimal impact on the battle scene. As for the newbies participating in this round, they had already perished.
“Charge—don’t let Avalokitesvara attack again!”
Seeing the Light Gate close, an advisor shouted excitedly to rally morale, but before anyone could muster their spirits, they were struck down by a cruel reminder.
The second path: Hungry Ghost Path—ten thousand ghosts devouring, consuming all living beings!
The previously closed Light Gate reopened, but the surrounding auspicious clouds had vanished. What once seed imbued with heavenly vibes was now tainted with bronze tones.
Terrifying, ravenous ghosts that looked starved for millennia surged out from the Hungry Ghost Gate, pouncing towards the Trojan Squad. Their sheer numbers blotted out the sky, akin to locust swarms. They even appeared to consu portions of the ruins.
Won scread in terror, even those of Hero-level—unable to resist the general fear of ghosts among the female mbers.
Faced with these pitch-black monsters, their mouths occupying two-thirds of their cheeks, the won panicked. Before the group leaders even issued commands, they launched attacks.
“Area strikes—now! Throw everything at them!” The group leaders urged their teams. If the hungry ghosts got close, they’d leave nothing but scraps and bones.
Steel Sky descended into low altitude, projecting ammunition and particle cannons that gouged deep trenches into the ground. Any ghosts under its coverage evaporated instantly.
From a high-altitude view, the scene resembled chunks of scars, but the sheer numbers of the creatures quickly filled the gaps.
The Warhamr Squad remained unshaken, drawing on their ample experience handling such threats.
“Fanfan, Xinlan, iqin, hold your fire—Ruan Feifei, Dong Zixuan, you go first.” Dantai motioned to the panic-stricken Fanfan to step back while prompting the two non-Hero-level won into action.
Ruan Feifei didn’t hesitate. After all this ti, her mindset had shifted; she now sought the approval of her peers.
“Step back a bit—watch for collateral damage!” The female strear raised her hands diagonally forward, resembling an energy tower. Blue electric arcs spilled from her skin, steadily increasing until her entire body was enveloped in a cocoon of blue lightning.
Crackle—snap! The female strear unleashed electricity without the need for constructs like Lu Fan’s Sand Spear. Her pure electric attack power beca a scorched blackboard wherever it landed.
The hungry ghost horde charging the Warhamr Squad faltered. The electric currents hit them, continuing to flow across their bodies endlessly. Within monts, the world transford into a sea of lightning.
One hundred thousand volts, one million volts, five million volts!
The female strear’s long hair stood upright, crackling with fine blue arcs of static electricity.
“Feifei, don’t overexert yourself; we’ll handle the rest!” Seeing Feifei recklessly consu her life energy in a frenzy of attacks, Qin Yan patted her shoulder gently in caution.
“Feifei Auntie, I quite like the current you,” Lu Fan chid with a cheeky grin.
“Conserve your strength; tougher battles await ahead.”
Xinlan, Bai Guo, Xu Biyun, and the others nodded at Ruan Feifei, reminding her not to push herself too far. Her recent performance had finally earned their recognition.
“Ruan Feifei, welco to the family.” No matter Dantai’s cool deanor, the smile at the corners of his lips revealed his true feelings.
Ruan Feifei turned to look at Tang Zheng.
“Everything is behind us now. What matters is surviving to the very end!” Tang Zheng grinned. “I’m sure plenty of people are looking forward to seeing you back on screen soday, hosting programs!”
“Thank you!”
Ruan Feifei broke down into tears, finally liberated from the year-long depression that had clouded her mind. The persistent gloom lifted as sunshine breached the horizon—this mont of happiness surged through her, even as the annihilating attack of the hungry ghosts raged against her body. It felt surreal yet utterly wonderful.
Boom—red life energy poured forth from Ruan Feifei’s body, only to be entirely absorbed again. After enduring thirteen rounds of the ga, she had finally entered Hero Mode.
Whoosh, whoosh—the female strear’s evolution brought her Seed Ability to new heights. Her lightning transford into spheres that erupted within the hungry ghost horde, augnting high-voltage strikes with continuous explosions.
“Holy crap—has the universe lost all reason? While others are barely scraping by, you guys actually evolved?”
Group Leader Zhao lanted the unfairness. Other teams envied and begrudged the Trojan Squad; having soone level up at this juncture, with area-clearing skills no less, clearly boosted survival rates dramatically.
The hungry ghost horde surged in suicide-like waves, breaking through so teams’ defenses. They snatched the unlucky stragglers at the edges and devoured them savagely.
No group leader mourned their losses; the ones stationed on the periter were evidently expendable foot soldiers.
“Congratulations!” Dong Zixuan congratulated Ruan Feifei while also starting to reflect on her own predicant, though her hands remained busy.
With firearms blasting away, the street ahead cracked open—red-hot magma spilled forth, instantly flooding the area with searing heat, turning the hungry ghosts to ash.
Despite their fear of death and pain, the ghosts charged even faster under the agony of their burns. So managed to break through the blockade, rushing straight at the teams.
Xu Biyun summoned her puppets, using them as at shields to hold the line, while Bai Guo and Chu Baichuan handled the kills.
“Xinlan, Lu Fan, take turns!” Dantai wasn’t about to exhaust the policewoman or the female strear entirely.
“Got it!” Lu Fan, eager to prove himself, responded imdiately.
“Let handle it!” Pang iqin rose into the air, transforming into Angel of Annihilation in bombardnt mode.
As ferocious birds cleaved down a path of carnage, missile modules unleashed volleys amidst hymns of repentance, igniting a sea of flas.
The hungry ghosts scread in anguish, those fortunate enough to escape instantly cut down by eighteen massive floating cannons deployed for cleanup.
Li Xinlan didn’t even need to act; the hungry ghost horde was exterminated.
“Look! No more monsters are coming out.” Soone pointed to the empty doorway, elated.
“Quick, take potions to recover.” The advisors didn’t dare to command a hard charge this ti, reluctant to risk another misstep. True to their fears, no ti for respite followed—the Dark Avalokitesvara waved its thousand hands, opening the third gate.
The third path: Mortal Gate—myriad transformations, revealing one’s true heart!
Everyone stared at the gate, dreading the next enemy. But instead, only drifting seven-colored auspicious clouds erged and quickly dissipated.
“This is bad—psychic attack incoming.” Tang Zheng barely managed to process the situation before falling into an illusory realm.
He saw his toddling younger self learning to walk and recalled his childhood classroom window with its bright, translucent glass. A cicada perched on a leafy tree outside, lanting the sweltering sumr heat.
Tang Zheng was young—just a fresh-faced college student. With few regrets or traumas, he fared better than the older individuals whose troubled pasts left them vulnerable in the Mortal Gate’s psychic assault, forcing them to confront life’s bitterness once more.
A sudden urge to die flooded Tang Zheng’s mind. He pointed the gun’s muzzle at his chin, convinced that death would grant rebirth.
Bam—a gunshot rang out, a light beam grazing Tang Zheng’s forehead.
“Holy shit—almost got !” Sweat dripped from Tang Zheng’s brow; psychic attacks were his greatest fear, completely indiscriminate. “I need to co up with sothing fast. Wonder how the others are holding up?” (To be continued. If you enjoyed this work, please visit 起点 (qidian) and cast your recomndation votes or monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation!)
