Chapter 1636: Chapter 36 Conflict
“What are you doing? Get back to the battlefield!” Ma Tianyuan roared angrily at Tang Zheng and the others.
Disregarding the fact that Mu Nianqi once ca out of the first team in the Asia Region, just Tang Zheng’s strength alone was enough to rank among the top fifteen in the region—he had even dealt with legendary figures such as Bingxu and Vasily. So, faced with the threats shouted by a person they had never t, Ma Tianyuan, they simply chose to ignore him.
“Do those two have a death wish?”
“How brazen! They actually dare to defy Ma Tianyuan!”
“Nonsense, didn’t you see the firepower they unleashed when battling the Dark Maitreya? They’re definitely third-order Hero Level, and they must have hidden finishing moves. By calculation, they aren’t much weaker than Ma Tianyuan!”
The Conquerors whispered among themselves, deeply admiring the duo’s audacity. After all, this was the brutal Trojan Horse Ga, where one had to cower just to survive. Such a life was too tedious; you’d might as well choose death instead.
After so inquiries, soone recognized Tang Zheng and called out the na of the Warhamr Team. Silence quickly descended again, interrupted by Ma Tianyuan’s thunderous yell.
“Stop right there!”
Standing at a window of a building, Ma Tianyuan’s face turned iron blue with rage. Even the elusive and mysterious Dragon King wouldn’t show him such disregard.
With a single leap, Ma Tianyuan shot out like a cannonball, his overwhelming montum dispersing the rain curtain in front of him; not a single drop of water landed on him.
His black hair, slick with gel, clung tightly to his scalp, swept back into a sleek pompadour. Paired with his black suit, he looked every bit the image of an old-school cri boss.
Standing an impressive 1.9 ters tall, his burly fra resembled a brown bear, every inch of muscle exuding savage power.
Ma Tianyuan, an experienced veteran Unafraid One, traversed over a hundred ters in an instant, appearing in front of Tang Zheng and Mu Nianqi to block their path.
Tang Zheng stopped, spitting out a mouthful of rainwater-mixed saliva. Being drenched to the bone felt awful, and he yearned for nothing more than a hot shower and a peaceful sleep.
“This guy has such a petty mind.”
Mu Nianqi rarely judged others, but facing this overbearing boss, she couldn’t help voicing her assessnt. Rather than focusing on commanding the battle, Ma Tianyuan prioritized protecting his own vanity, disregarding the safety of the Conquerors. It was evident that his openness of heart didn’t extend far, and he didn’t care about anyone else’s life or death.
One must understand that these Conquerors charged ahead only because of Ma Tianyuan’s earlier rallying call. Observing his behavior now, the smarter ones began to waver, hesitant to place their hopes entirely on him.
“You two, have you never heard of the great na of Ma Tianyuan? Or do you simply not respect it?” Ma Tianyuan’s square-shaped face, thick brows, large eyes, and high-bridged nose conveyed authority, though his thin lips seed slightly incongruous. His habit of half-squinting his eyes gave him an air of constant scheming.
“What are you, so ancient Liangshan hero? Stop pretending to be a relic of the past,” Tang Zheng retorted, uninterested in tangling with Ma Tianyuan any further. His attention had already shifted to the seventh floor of a distant building, where red flashes repeatedly illuminated, signaling a ssage from his team mbers.
“Bastard,” Ma Tianyuan snapped furiously. A lover of the “Water Margin” stories and an admirer of Song Jiang, he often referred to himself as “Tily Rain.” Now, hearing Tang Zheng mock him, he swung his arm instinctively, aiming a strike at him.
anwhile, the Dark Maitreya—a part of the mission to guard the altar and await the Spirit Embryo’s birth—had no intention of striking back. The longer the stalemate, the worse it beca for the enemy. ssages had already been sent to the Dark Buddha Statues in the northern suburbs, who were now on their way back.
Though there were over ten ters of distance between Tang Zheng and Ma Tianyuan, with a single motion, a gigantic hand manifested above Tang Zheng’s head, blotting out everything with the ferocity of a thunderbolt collapsing downwards.
Even before the hand reached him, the slicing wind it brought lashed at Tang Zheng like sharp blades.
Reverse Gravity!
Since the opponent had already struck, Tang Zheng had no intention of holding back. Otherwise, he’d be seen as an easy target in the Trojan World, where only strength commanded respect.
Ma Tianyuan felt a twisting pain in his organs, with faint signs of being torn apart. But as a seasoned fighter, he quickly mobilized his life energy to channel external forces and establish a force-field barrier around himself.
Boom! Before he could even refocus, the gigantic hand above Tang Zheng’s head had already been punctured into shreds by the Gravity Lance.
Around them, the Conquerors gasped in shock. To their astonishnt, Tang Zheng held his ground during the exchange—even against Ma Tianyuan’s sneak attack, which would have crushed ordinary people into minced flesh instantly.
“Enough already! If you don’t start commanding the battle, you’ll lose all your authority,” Mu Nianqi scolded sharply before striding past Ma Tianyuan without hesitation.
Frankly, Mu Queen couldn’t stand this guy’s flashy deanor. Besides the suit and the knee-length overcoat he wore, the man had the audacity to puff on a cigar and wrap a pristine white scarf around his neck—in the heat of sumr, no less. Fortunately, he was an Unafraid One; an ordinary person in his position would’ve been riddled with sweat rash by now.
“You brat! Didn’t your father teach you how to speak?” Ma Tianyuan, unshaken by the verbal jab, extended his long arm towards Mu Nianqi.
His fingers, thick as tree roots, carried a force so sharp and ferocious it tore through the air with a piercing whistle. This claw strike could rip through even 3S-grade Tyrannosaurus Protective Clothing.
Mu Nianqi snorted coldly. With a tallic scrape, her Tang Sword left its sheath. A quick rotation of her wrist sent the blade slicing towards Ma Tianyuan’s attacking hand.
Sparks flew as the two forces clashed with a screech of steel on steel.
Ma Tianyuan’s entire offensive was deflected, especially as he detected a clone suddenly appearing behind him, aiming a fierce attack at the back of his head, forcing him onto the defensive.
Taking advantage of the mont, Mu Nianqi pushed past Ma Tianyuan without looking back, charging straight into the building.
The Conquerors were dumbfounded. They hadn’t expected Ma Tianyuan to suffer even minor setbacks, and their respect for him plumted.
In truth, the battle was far from as straightforward as it appeared. Whether Ma Tianyuan was striking Tang Zheng or Mu Nianqi, both individuals were locked in by his energy, projecting an aura of calm despite holding their ground. As third-order Heroes, they knew better than to underestimate even an arrogant opponent like Ma Tianyuan.
This vigilance forced Ma Tianyuan to expend part of his combat strength. If he could unleash full firepower in a one-on-one duel, his accumulated experience and energy might grant him an early edge. But in these rapid exchanges, imdiate combat awareness and abilities determined the outco. Tang Zheng and Mu Nianqi were by no ans lacking in this regard.
“Arrogant fools!” Ma Tianyuan, humiliated, fud and turned to pursue Mu Nianqi, only to sense a spatial fluctuation behind him. He quickly spun around and struck, knowing full well the boy’s abilities could be strangely elusive if he let himself be caught off guard.
Bang! The Gravity Lance was dispersed, shaking the surrounding raindrops into splintered mist, rippling outward in concentric circles.
Tang Zheng darted past Ma Tianyuan. He could have teleported to avoid unnecessary clashes, but suddenly recalled hearing this man’s na before. A surge of fury filled his chest.
Gritting his teeth, Ma Tianyuan launched a spiteful attack, aiming his massive palm at Tang Zheng once more.
Golden handprints, a dozen in number, materialized instantly, hurtling towards Tang Zheng like cannonballs. The sheer speed rippled the air, forming small vortices mixed with the falling rain.
A White Dwarf Star appeared above Tang Zheng’s head, radiating the Gravity Abyss. The handprints cracked and shattered under its pulse, disintegrating monts later.
As an expert in defense, Tang Zheng found this level of attack insufficient to even phase him.
The two finally bypassed Ma Tianyuan and entered the building. Around them, the Conquerors dared not make a sound, fearing Ma Tianyuan would vent his rage on them.
“I rember who he is now—the one who killed Fang Zhiwen’s group. It’s him,” Tang Zheng muttered, clenching his fists. Back in the KTV, he beat this man’s younger brother to a pulp. In retaliation, they orchestrated the murder of his classmates.
Though Shen Jiashu’s group was nearly wiped out in the process, this injustice demanded retribution.
“Group Leader Ma, what now?” one of his deputies asked. Ti was running out; they couldn’t remain at a stalemate indefinitely.
“Kill the Maitreya.” Ma Tianyuan turned, glaring at the Conquerors with bloodlust. “Didn’t you hear ? Attack the altar!”
The Conquerors exchanged hesitant glances, unwilling to move.
“Move now! Didn’t you hear Group Leader Ma?! Start your attack!” The deputy barked, angered, as he and his team started pressuring the others.
Sending others to act as cannon fodder had always been their preferred tactic.
“What about those two?” a Conqueror at Hero Level dared to retort.
“Courting death!” Ma Tianyuan made no wasted motion. With a sweep of his right hand, a massive palm materialized above the speaker, slamming down before he could resist. His head exploded, splattering ground at and brain matter everywhere.
Blood mixed with rain spread out in every direction.
“Anyone who shirks responsibility will et the sa fate.”
Ma Tianyuan scanned the crowd with venom in his eyes. Not even the other group leaders dared to make eye contact with him. His reputation inspired fear, and they were unwilling to risk their lives locking horns with him.
The group leaders, inherently cold-blooded, cared little for their mbers’ lives. And in a ti-sensitive mission such as this one, better to sacrifice others than themselves.
The leaders began coaxing their teams to launch an assault on the altar, cleverly shifting all negative consequences onto Ma Tianyuan.
“Once this mission ends, Group Leader Ma, we should properly discipline those cowards,” a team mber tried to ingratiate himself with a flattering comnt, only to receive a crisp smack across the face in return.
“Shut up! You too, move out!” Ma Tianyuan barked at a cluster of Conquerors. “My people are already engaging. If anyone dares to hold back, don’t bla for being ruthless!”
With no retreat routes left, the Conquerors had no choice but to storm the altar. However, their morale was dismal. Though not a completely disorganized rabble, the absence of adept leadership prevented them from unleashing their full potential.
“This won’t do. They need to be united as one,” a strategist murmured anxiously. Yet, faced with a tyrant like Ma Tianyuan, he dared not raise his voice. One glance at that man’s face revealed he was no one to reason with.
“Is it just you guys?” Mu Nianqi reached the seventh floor, surprised to find only five people holding position.
“Yu Deye is on standby upstairs,” Li Xinlan replied tersely, frowning. “Didn’t Dantai stay with you?”
“Uncle!” Lu Fan dashed forward in a short sprint. From several ters away, he leapt into Tang Zheng’s arms, burying his damp head against Tang Zheng’s neck.
“Could it be that Dantai, Qin Yan, and the others were teleported to another city?” Tang Zheng speculated, his heart sinking. With their level of adaptability, there was no way they’d be taken down so easily. The only plausible explanation for their absence was being sent to a different location. (To be continued.
