Chapter 87: Siege of the Citadel 5

The mont Damon’s gaze moved away from the battlefield, and back to his opponent, he saw a blade already midair, coming straight at him.

He deflected it right on ti before slipping between the shadows and reappearing right behind his enemy. But before he could retaliate with a strike, the enemy leader already expected for him to be there, its blade ready to catch Damon before he could disappear once again.

CLANG!

Damon’s sword barely lifted to stop the enemy blade, but the follow-up cut from the dark elf’s wind ability cut his left arm open, his tal armour split without resistance as if it were made of plastic.

Through his connection, Damon could also sense the Dark Knight’s struggle against the two guards, their heavy armours and superior strength made even the knight’s better swordsmanship not enough to turn the battle in its favour.

Damon leapt backwards, creating so space between him and the leader of the dark elves as his face hardened.

The human deaths lingered in the air all around him, the cries and screams that continued to be cut short were a constant remainder of what’s at stake.

With Absolute Comprehension still active, a plan ford in Damon’s head.

Using his Shadow Manipulation once again, he slipped into the shadows, but this ti, instead of coming out right away, he also activated his domain.

Instantly, his surroundings changed to that of a castle born of black ice.

His last visit made one thing clear to him, the ti here passed differently. After spending over an hour inside his domain, only about two minutes passed on earth, and so, using that to his advantage, he allowed his consciousness to slip toward the threads of power once again.

Damon imdietally moved toward his Berserker class. He already forced evolution to one of its abilities, but now he needed more than just a slight power-up, he needed a leap in strength.

Without wasting even a second, he began weaving the threads.

Roughly around a third of them, those responsible for his Ravenous Bloodlust ability, were already evolved, which only left two-thirds of the job to do.

He started on the outside, expanding the existing threads before moving inward. The task was rigorous and his mana was depleting at an extraordinary rate, but even worse than that were the lives of people left in the citadel.

With the stakes lingering in his head, he began to weave quicker, making threads faster with each mont until the second ability was almost done. The only thing remaining was the connection between the two abilities and the class itself, they all had to beco one.

He took a second longer for this part. Unlike manipulating the threads responsible for the abilities, the class worked differently, and so he began to learn along the way, his core quickly depleting to a dangerous degree until the last thread connected in its rightful place.

[Your class *Berserker* evolved!]

[Berserker -> Blood Berserker]

Damon quickly acknowledged the change before pulling his consciousness back to his domain. He allowed himself to take a couple of ragged breaths before taking a quick look at his newly evolved ability.

[Ability: Blood Berserker’s Fury]

[Type: Active]

[Description:

50% Strength, Dexterity and Stamina. Drains 50hp per second.]

There was a significant difference in both the stat boost and the cost.

Fifty health points per second ant he had less than a minute of using the ability at his full health, at which he wasn’t. He had already activated the ability for almost a minute and also suffered three significant injuries, aning he could only spare a second of his newly evolved ability before his HP would go down to 0.

He closed his eyes for a mont, his breathing slowing, before his eyes snapped back with a newfound focus. He then deactivated his domain, stepping back on earth and reappearing behind the enemy leader.

To everyone else, he was gone for only a second before he appeared behind the enemy with a newfound strength. Activating his evolved ability, Damon swung his blade at his full strength. The leader of the dark elves turned and raised his weapon to block the strike, but when the two weapons clashed—

CLANG!

The curved blade cracked and flailed uselessly into the air. Damon pivoted without wasting a mont, and right before his one second of the newly evolved ability could run out, his weapon flashed across the enemy’s neck.

The battlefield went still for a second ti, and everyone’s gaze moved toward the direction of a wet thud that ca from the rolling head of the enemy leader.

The enemy troops froze. The dark elves were unable to take their gazes away from the rolling head, and before they could gather their focus, the humans struck.

That single mont off guard turned the tide of the battle heavily in the humans’ favour.

Damon staggered back slightly. His health was nearing dangerous levels after all the injuries he had accumulated, along with the single-second use of his new ability.

But there was no ti to rest. Damon’s gaze imdiately landed on Dark Knight, who was getting pushed back by the two guards, before he dashed into the frenzy.

Damon’s blade blocked one of the attackers, leaving his summon enough room to catch its own opponent nurous tis. That single block left the Dark Knight with enough space to finish the first guard before turning toward Damon, who just blocked another strike from the second one.

But, just as they were about to strike the second enemy down, a sudden loud notification rang through the air, one that every human present could hear.

[Control of the Citadel *Dark Castle* has been captured.]

Damon’s gaze moved across the battlefield, and a cold feeling settled in his chest that had nothing to do with his injuries or low health.

He imdietally realised that there were so people missing, not dead, not injured or in the middle of a battle, but simply gone, and as his head turned toward the grand hall, he knew exactly where they were.
