Chapter 2: System Breaker

Damon’s breath grew a little ragged. Despite not swinging the fire extinguisher that many tis, putting all his strength into each swing was still straining. Also, he wasn’t one to exercise in the past, so his stamina was bad to begin with.

With the Undead Humans busy chewing on the bodies of the humans who were alive just monts ago, Damon saw a golden opportunity, each monster was busy with their al.

He walked along the train cart, swinging the fire extinguisher into the back of each monster’s skull.

So took a single strike, others took no more than two, but in the end, each fell as their skulls cracked and notifications began flooding Damon’s vision.

Then, just as he approached the last monster, he struck the fire extinguisher so hard on its skull that the tool exploded, the leftover foam covering everything around him.

[You have slain a Level 1 Undead human]

[You have reached Level 5. You have received 1 Stat Point]

’Well, at least they’re all dead,’ he thought, recognising that his only weapon was gone now, only a small piece of tal remaining of it.

He dropped it to the ground with a loud clang, the sound echoing through the silent cart. Damon stood there for a mont, breathing hard. His hands trembled slightly, partially from strain, and partially from what he just went through. The tallic sll of blood mixed with the chemical sll of the fire extinguisher foam, made his stomach twist.

He lingered for a mont, but before he could have a good mont’s rest, a new notification appeared before him.

[5 Stat points available. Would you like to open the status window?]

’Status window?’ The mont Damon thought of the word ’status,’ a sudden half-translucent window appeared before him.

[Na: Damon]

[Level: 5]

[Race: Human]

[Class: Error-!]

[Attributes: System Breaker]

[Classes (0/1): ]

[Stats:

— Strength: 9

— Dexterity: 5

— Vitality: 5

— Stamina: 4

— Mana: 10

— Luck: 1]

[Stat Points Available: 5]

Damon frowned reading through the list. His body swayed slightly as the train flashed past the platforms it was supposed to stop at.

’Error? How can my class be an error?’

Then, his frown only deepened as he looked at the System Breaker attribute.

He lingered on it for a few monts before a sudden, new window appeared.

[Attribute: System Breaker]

[Description: Your class is undefined. You may have more than one class]

’More than one class?’ Damon’s brow raised in surprise. He had played many MMORPGs, he had read many novels, but none showed a person who could wield more than one class at once.

’But how would that work? And how do I get classes?’

He looked down at the empty classes category.

Suddenly, a loud ring cut through his head.

[Notification: You have two class cards available. Would you like to open your inventory?]

[Yes] [No]

’Yes,’ Damon replied without hesitation.

Another window replaced the status screen, one that displayed many empty grids with only two slots taken.

[Slot 1: Class Card (Grade: SSS)]

[Slot 2: Class Card (Grade: C)]

His eyes widened.

If it was anything like the novels he had read, then the SSS grade class would be extrely overpowered.

Another description appeared as his eyes landed on the SSS Grade card.

[Class Card: Upon use, you will receive a random class of that grade]

Damon lingered for a mont, debating which card he should go for. Right now, according to his status window, it appeared as if he could only have one class. He assud it would probably increase over ti, just not sure when, and so his choice right now felt important.

Saving the SSS grade card sounded good in theory, but what was he going to save it for? It’s not like using it now or later would make a difference, is it?

With a satisfied nod, he focused on the SSS grade card.

A single thought of intention was enough for the card to vanish and a sudden bright flash to burst around him. He felt a surge of mana flowing through his body, intensifying with each mont until a new notification flashed across his vision.

[You have acquired a new Class: Divine Beast Tar]

[You have received a new item: Beast Summoning Card]

’Beast summoning card?’ Damon raised a brow before focusing on the word ’inventory’ in his head. It worked just as he had expected; the inventory window appeared before him once again.

He focused on the new item.

[Beast Summoning Card: Upon use you will summon a random beast. Beast’s grades go from F - SSS. The higher your Luck Stat, the higher the chance of the better grade.]

’Luck stat?’

Damon’s thoughts instantly rushed to the status screen. The window barely had ti to appear as his eyes plumted down the list, searching for his luck stat.

[Luck: 1]

He froze at the sight.

’One? Are you fucking kidding ?’ He cursed inwardly for a few monts before coming to terms with the stat before him. Of course he knew his luck better than anyone. It’s not like he had ever gotten lucky in his life, but seeing it as a number was still a new thing to him.

’There’s no way I’ll get anything other than F grade with this luck.’

He let out an annoyed sigh, realizing that he should’ve picked the other card.

His thoughts then shifted to his available stat points.

’My vitality is at 5 without putting any points into it. Even if I put all 5 points into luck, that’ll probably barely make a difference. I should save the card until I can raise my luck high enough.’

On the other hand, he rembered the difference two stat points in strength had made. Lingering on his stats for a few seconds more, he decided to put three into strength and two into stamina.

He clenched his fist as he felt the sudden change take place in his body. His ragged breathing was gone and so was the strain on his muscles, replaced by newfound strength.

At that mont, he noticed a sudden movent beneath the pile of dead bodies.

’Did I miss one?’

Damon walked slowly toward the pile of bodies, shoving them aside to reveal a lone undead human he had missed.

He took a step backwards, allowing the monster to get up.

’Let’s see the difference now,’ he thought as he clenched his fist and struck the monster right in the head.

Its skull cracked in an instant, the monster’s body slumping to the ground after a single hit.

At that mont, the train had suddenly left the tunnel it had been going through and entered out onto the open railroad.

Damon’s eyes widened. ’It... it missed my stop?’

He had never gone this far out of the city. He rushed toward the window, almost pressing his face against the glass.

But what he saw made his stomach drop.

Car-sized bats swept through the smoke-filled sky. Fires covered distant building tops. Cars lay toppled across the streets, painted red with blood. And all around the roads the train zood past were countless undead humans, strolling between the dead bodies, tearing into still-moving victims.

The world, as he knew it, was gone.
