Realizing that his whereabouts had been exposed, the man hurriedly opened the window and prepared to make an escape.
Chu Jiao fired another shot but missed once again, the bullet carelessly hitting the window sill instead.
The man in black was completely enraged by her actions and realized that Chu Jiao’s marksmanship was completely and utterly terrible, so he lost any signs of being vigilant for his safety and instead, popped out a knife from his sleeve and slowly walked towards her.
Chu Jiao saw the bloodlust in his eyes and couldn’t help but take a few steps back from intimidation.
She continuously fired at him as she kept retreating, but alas, he still evaded every single one of her shots.
I miscalculated. I thought he was just a petty thief at first, but I didn’t expect him to be trained in combat.
After all of those shots, there were unfortunately no bullets left in the barrel of the gun, so while Chu Jiao withdrew from the dangerous man, she also kept an eye on her surroundings, constantly looking for a weapon to defend herself with.
“Jiao’er, dodge!” The instant that treacherous man leaped towards her, her arm was abruptly yanked by soone, dragging her whole person behind him.
Yan Zhan swiftly raised his hand and fired, accurately hitting the man’s right hand that wielded the knife.
“Urgh!”
The man, who was shot, cried out in pain. Originally, he had wanted to retaliate but upon seeing Yan Zhan’s face clearly under the luminescent moonlight, his pupils shrank, and he opened the window, jumping out of it imdiately.
Yan Zhan wanted to pursue him, but right now, he was far more concerned about Chu Jiao, so he begrudgingly let the man escape. He was perfectly confident that if this man was from Zhi Li, he would surely dig him up no matter what.
The most important thing at that mont was, of course, confirming the girl’s safety.

She ca up with a couple of rough guesses in her heart, but those were only based on her understanding of the plot. Now that there was no evidence left behind, talking to Yan Zhan about it would only arouse his suspicions.
“Don’t worry about these things,” Yan Zhan rubbed Chu Jiao’s bed hair, “Go back to bed, and I’ll take care of this.”
“I can’t sleep anymore,” Chu Jiao pouted, tensely clutching the gun in her hand. “I can’t believe I didn’t even get a single shot!” How infuriating!
Yan Zhan couldn’t help but laugh at this cute scene, “Who told you to half-heartedly learn-“
“Are you blaming !” Chu Jiao furiously bared her teeth and retorted, “You were obviously an incompetent teacher!”
Yan Zhan raised his hands and surrendered.
“Move to my Yan Mansion tomorrow…” He put his arms around the girl’s slender waist and lovingly kissed her on the forehead, “I can’t be at ease knowing that you’re living all alone with no one there to protect you.”
“How am I living alone… There’s clearly the old butler and Aunt Zhang accompanying ,” Chu Jiao buried herself in his arms, “If I leave, what would happen to them?”
Governor Yan imposingly and haughtily said, “Let them co to the Yan Mansion as well. There’s enough space for them. Moreover, they can also take care of you too.”
