The room went quiet again.

Elowen’s eyes twinkled. "You an hugging soone warm?"

Velmora nodded slowly. "I an this. Being still. Being... held, in return."

Lilith finally spoke.

Her voice was soft, but firm.

"We understand. Just don’t hog him all day."

"I will," Velmora said without apology.

Liliana rolled her eyes. "She’s not even pretending anymore."

Isabella frowned. "Should we fight her?"

Seraphina stood slowly, placing her cup down. "No."

Everyone turned to look at her.

She stepped toward Ethan and gently reached out, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"I think," she said slowly, "that we’re all just a little scared."

"Of what?" Everly asked quietly.

"That soone else might get too close," Seraphina answered. "Before we get our turn."

The weight of her words hung in the air.

Velmora didn’t move.

But her grip softened.

Just a little.

And finally, Ethan spoke—voice calm, but honest.

"You don’t have to rush."

Everyone looked at him.

"I’m not going anywhere," he said. "You all matter to . No one’s getting replaced."

Silence again.

But this ti... it felt easier.

Evelyn smiled faintly.

Everly exhaled.

Even Seraphina’s expression softened.

And Velmora?

She let her head rest fully on his chest, eyes closed, peaceful again.

Elowen smiled, raising her cup one last ti.

"Well," she said warmly, "since you’re staying..."

She looked toward the twins with a sly grin.

"Next ti, invite to the feast."

Everly turned red again.

"Can we please stop calling it that?"

"But it was," Elowen teased, her voice laced with amusent. "A small, private banquet of closeness. A little emotional indulgence."

Evelyn buried her face in her hands. "You’re making it worse."

Liliana tilted her head. "To be fair, it does sound kind of cute when she says it."

Seraphina rolled her eyes. "Only because she’s not the one being teased."

Isabella grinned. "Yet."

Elowen raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Is that a challenge?"

Seraphina shook her head quickly. "Nope. I’m staying quiet."

Lilith chuckled softly under her breath. She leaned back into her chair and glanced toward the hallway. "What ti is it?"

Everly looked over at the clock. "Just past six."

Ethan blinked. "Already?"

Liliana stretched her arms. "Makes sense. It’s been a long day."

"A very long one," Isabella agreed.

The energy in the room started to shift again.

Not because of tension.

But because everyone could feel it, the slow wind-down of the day. That strange, gentle calm that ca once all the big monts had passed and all that was left was stillness.

Velmora finally lifted her head just enough to look up at Ethan.

"Can I stay like this a little longer?"

Ethan nodded without thinking. "Yeah."

She gave a small smile and tucked her head back under his chin.

Lilith stood up and stretched. "Alright. Let’s start getting things cleaned up."

Evelyn and Everly both jumped up almost at the sa ti. "We’ll help!"

Seraphina started gathering the cups. Isabella grabbed the extra snacks and empty dishes.

Liliana stayed put, but only because she had already claid the job of folding the small blanket soone had tossed on the couch earlier.

Elowen stayed seated, watching with a thoughtful look in her eyes.

She finally stood, walking slowly past Ethan and Velmora, brushing her fingers across the back of the couch lightly.

"Today was good," she said simply.

Ethan looked up. "Yeah."

Her smile turned soft, almost motherly. "Get so rest after this. You earned it."

He nodded again.

Soon, the sounds of light movent and gentle conversation filled the space—clinking plates, small footsteps, a few quiet laughs.

The sun had dipped further, casting warm orange tones across the room through the windows.

Lilith ca back, now holding a warm towel, which she handed to Velmora without saying a word.

Velmora sat up slightly, stretched, and finally slid off Ethan’s lap, though reluctantly. She took the towel with a small, grateful nod, wiping at her cheeks as if she’d just co back from sowhere far away.

"You sure you’re alright?" Lilith asked, her tone even but kind.

"Yeah," Velmora said. "Just needed to feel sothing steady."

Lilith nodded, then looked at Ethan. "Thank you for being that."

He blinked. "I didn’t do much."

"You did enough."

Liliana walked by and patted Ethan lightly on the shoulder. "Next ti, warn us when a cuddle raid is incoming."

"I didn’t plan this," Ethan said flatly.

"Exactly," Isabella chid in. "Which makes it even more dangerous."

Everly giggled. "Cuddle raids are our job."

"And yet," Elowen added, returning to her seat, "Nyx beat you to it."

Velmora didn’t say anything.

She just smirked.

The lights in the hallway dimd automatically, a soft signal that night was settling in.

Soone lit one of the smaller lamps in the corner.

The music faded into a quieter lody—slow piano and gentle strings.

The house wasn’t quiet, not really.

But it was peaceful now.

The storm had passed.

The teasing softened.

And bit by bit, everyone fell into smaller pockets of conversation or simply curled up on cushions and soft throws as the warmth of the evening settled around them.

Ethan sat back, arms behind his head now, as he watched the others drift across the living room.

His heart felt lighter.

Not because anything had been solved.

But because it was okay now.

The people here weren’t perfect.

But they were his.

As the sky outside turned from orange to deep blue and the last rays of sunlight disappeared behind the far hills, the living room slowly emptied.

One by one, the girls wandered off to their rooms, saying goodnight in quiet voices.

Lilith was the last to leave.

She paused by the door, looked back at Ethan once more, and gave him a long look, proud, but also a little tired.

"Sleep well."

"You too," Ethan said.

And then she was gone.

He stood up slowly, stretched, and turned off the final lamp before heading toward the stairs.

His footsteps echoed softly against the floor.

No tension.

No rush.

Just peace.

And with that...

The day ended.
