“I might not be able to make it if I’m arriving at noon,” Xie Yanchuan explained, but then quickly added, “unless I can swap classes with another teacher…”
“No!” Xu Jinzhi interrupted Xie Yanchuan, “Don’t bother, I’ll just go directly to your school when I arrive, anyway I won’t be returning to the office in the afternoon.”
Xie Yanchuan was thus rejected by Xu Jinzhi; they talked a bit more before hanging up.

When Xu Jinzhi got off the plane, she sent a ssage to Xie Yanchuan, saying she was heading to the school and asking him to co out imdiately after class, so they could go eat together.

However, when Xu Jinzhi arrived, she didn’t find Xie Yanchuan waiting at the school gate.

“What do we want? That question should be directed at you!” a male student retorted angrily, glaring at Xie Yanchuan.
“What achievents did your lab have last year? Why do you still get so much funding this quarter, even more than ours?”
“If it’s not Dean Zhao pulling strings, what is it?”
“Tell us!”
Xie Yanchuan’s face turned ashen; indeed, the issue was sowhat hard to explain, and he didn’t know why things were this way.
Only days ago, the professor had specifically ntioned this funding issue, yet now, his group had received more funds than Group Two.
