Chapter 17: Chapter 17 I Will Check In Anyti Chapter 17: Chapter 17 I Will Check In Anyti Xu Jinzhi had a bit of a headache, as she vaguely rembered it was the sa in her past life.
He Jingyi wasn’t abroad at that ti, saving the ti to fly back, so he had already co to the company to confront her on the sa day.
He said that marrying Xie Linchuan wouldn’t bring her happiness, and asked her to break off the engagent with Xie Linchuan and be with him instead!
“By the way, even if it’s a marriage alliance, shouldn’t you be engaged to Xie Linchuan? How co you suddenly brought up Xie Er, the marginal figure from the Xie Family?” Song You asked, voicing her own doubts.
Xu Jinzhi said, “I’ve taken a liking to Xie Yanchuan.”
“Really?” Song You couldn’t believe it; she wasn’t eting Xu Jinzhi for the first ti. Could Xu Jinzhi actually have a budding romance?
“Really,” Xu Jinzhi said earnestly. She wasn’t lying—she indeed liked Xie Yanchuan, or why else would she want to go through this again?
“Oh my goodness! When did this happen?” Song You was shocked. She was just away on a trip, what on earth had happened in the anti that she didn’t know about?
“Just so ti ago, I had a chance encounter with him and thought he was quite alright,” Xu Jinzhi said, her lips curving up involuntarily as she spoke.
Song You could tell from the laughter in her voice, “Oh my god, how co I never realized you were like this?”
“Hmph,” Xu Jinzhi laughed without explaining.
Song You couldn’t help but express, “Does that an I should start dating too?”
Hearing Song You say this, the smile on Xu Jinzhi’s face stiffened a bit.
Song You’s marriage hadn’t been happy in her past life; thankfully, she had divorced early, sparing herself prolonged suffering. Now that Xu Jinzhi knew, she naturally wouldn’t let her good friend be hurt again.
“Wanting to date is fine,” Xu Jinzhi said, “but if you do start, you must tell . I’ll help you check him out.”
“Considering that you gave those two bags, I’ll agree to that,” said Song You, though she was just speaking off the cuff; dating wasn’t that simple.
“What do you an, ‘agree reluctantly’? You must tell right away!” Xu Jinzhi insisted.
“Alright, alright!”
After chatting for a while longer, they prepared to end the call, since there was the issue of ti difference between them after all.
“Let know in advance when you’re coming back, and I’ll pick you up at the airport,” Xu Jinzhi offered.
“Okay, let’s do that.”
With no further discussion, Song You took the initiative to hang up.
Xu Jinzhi stared at the phone that had been hung up and thought of He Jingyi, shaking her head; but ultimately, he wasn’t important and she quickly pushed him out of her mind.
After a busy evening, Xu Jinzhi returned ho, and after eating, she snuggled on the couch to eat fruit and texted Xie Yanchuan on her phone.
But Xie Yanchuan must be busy, as he hadn’t responded to the ssages she’d sent after work.
Xu Jinzhi didn’t believe Xie Yanchuan was purposely not responding to her ssages, so there was only one possibility: Xie Yanchuan hadn’t looked at his phone.
So, Xu Jinzhi realized that Xie Yanchuan must have been in the lab all this ti without leaving; otherwise, he wouldn’t have missed even a glance at his phone.
Xu Jinzhi couldn’t help but frown, sitting up straight on the couch rather than sprawling out as before; she didn’t text Xie Yanchuan again and instead called him directly.
What would she do if Xie Yanchuan didn’t answer the call?
What else?
It gave her a perfectly good excuse to go find Xie Yanchuan!
But Xu Jinzhi was overthinking it this ti; the call was answered by Xie Yanchuan after a short while, his gentle voice coming through the phone.
Xu Jinzhi was taken aback, then asked, “Why didn’t you respond to my ssage from two hours ago?”
There was a mont of silence on the phone before Xie Yanchuan’s voice ca, “Sorry, I was busy prior to this and didn’t notice your ssage.”
Xie Yanchuan’s phone was on silent mode, and if he hadn’t been preparing to go get so food, he might have missed this call as well.
“Busy, so you haven’t eaten yet?” Xu Jinzhi inquired.
“Mm,” Xie Yanchuan responded.
He thought Xu Jinzhi would let the matter of his not replying slide, but he didn’t anticipate that Xu Jinzhi’s initial concern wasn’t about the lack of reply at all.
Xu Jinzhi said, “How could you skip als when you have a bad stomach?”
Xu Jinzhi knew about Xie Yanchuan’s stomach issues.
Part of it was due to Xie Yanchuan’s habit of neglecting als when busy, but more so because Xie Yanchuan had ruined his stomach by not having access to proper food when he first went to study abroad.
Without waiting for Xie Yanchuan to say anything, Xu Jinzhi continued, “From tomorrow on, you must eat every al on ti. If I find out you’re skipping als, I’ll—”
“Hmm-hmm,” Xu Jinzhi chuckled. “Then I’ll just have to personally oversee it.”
Despite having a lot of work herself, she supposedly even busier than him, Xie Yanchuan didn’t think Xu Jinzhi was just making an idle threat.
Xie Yanchuan sounded sowhat taken aback as he replied, “I was just planning to eat after finishing up the work at hand.”
“Work isn’t as important as health. To work well, you need to be in good health,” Xu Jinzhi countered.
In her past life, Xie Yanchuan was also like this, but she herself was a workaholic with no place to criticize him, and at the ti, she didn’t see anything wrong with prioritizing work.
But considering that Xie Yanchuan had passed away early in his life without a chance to truly enjoy life, Xu Jinzhi felt she couldn’t let him dedicate himself solely to work anymore.
“Anyway, I will be checking on you randomly from now on, so you better have your als on ti,” Xu Jinzhi warned affectionately.
Xie Yanchuan paused, and in the end, he inexplicably agreed, “Okay.”
Xu Jinzhi was satisfied, “Are you about to head back now?”
“I’ll grab so food in the cafeteria and then go back to the lab.”
“Do you plan on sleeping in the lab tonight?”
“It’s not allowed to sleep in the lab,” he stated.
“Really?” Xu Jinzhi was surprised; she hadn’t known that.
“Mm, I’ll head back after I’m done.”
By this ti, Xie Yanchuan had already left the lab and was on his way to the cafeteria, talking on the phone while walking felt sowhat novel to him.
They talked a bit more, until Xie Yanchuan arrived at the cafeteria and they ended the call.
After hanging up, Xu Jinzhi once again ssaged Xie Yanchuan, reminding him to eat on ti.
