"So, this is why you ca to find ?" Anko looked incredulous, blocking the door with her hand to keep him from entering. "You’re bored and had to find soone equally boring?"

"Am I just a slacker in your eyes?" Naruto retorted

"Useless Jonin, your career is already over." Naruto pushed past her, entering her house with familiarity, and collapsed onto the couch, letting out a soft groan.

"Are you sick, Uzumaki Naruto?" Anko moved closer, standing beside the couch. “You seriously underestimate ! What do you an my career’s over?"

"What else?" Naruto never lost a verbal battle, giving her a sidelong glance, "You're almost thirty, and you're still a Tokubetsu Jonin."

"Seeing that your strength has no hope of further improvent, aren't you thinking about retiring soon?"

As he said this, he picked up a form from the table, crossed his legs, and began reading. Seeing this, Anko’s pupils shrank, and she pounced to snatch it back.

“Give it back!”

"Can’t I just take a look? You foolish woman?" Naruto teased, holding it out of reach as he read aloud, "Application to beco a teacher at the Academy?"

"Applicant: Mitarashi Anko."

"What’s it to you?!" Anko’s embarrassnt turned to anger, cursing herself for being careless, ‘I should have hidden that form.’

‘But it's too late now, he’d seen everything.’

"Of course it’s none of my business. If you want to change jobs, go ahead." Naruto said, flipping through the application, "Being a teacher is quite suitable for you, lazy Jonin."

"You!!!" Anko really wanted to throttle him. Clenching her fists, she finally held back, then plopped down on the other end of the couch with a sigh.

"I don’t have much talent anyway. I can’t really go on missions anymore. After thirty, my career is basically over. Where else would I go if not the Academy?"

"You’ve got a point. So, when are you starting at the Academy?" Naruto asked.

"Who knows? It depends on when the application gets approved. If it gets held up, I might have to ask soone to help out. Just thinking about it gives a headache."

"Then why didn't you ask ?" Naruto loosened his belt, sprawled out on the couch, and asked while staring up at the ceiling.

"Is there any use in asking you for help?" Anko asked after a mont of surprise.

"What do you think?"

"Would it work?" A glimr of hope ignited in her eyes.

"Nope."

"Tsk, then saying it was pretty much pointless." Anko rolled her eyes and got up to pour herself so water. Her voice then ca muffled from the kitchen.

"Sotis you just have to admit it, there’s no comparing with a genius like Kakashi. Even Shizune has now inherited Tsunade-sama’s mantle and beco the head of the dical Departnt."

"Well, do you know that position used to belong to Tsunade-sama? I heard that during the war, only when Tsunade-sama was in charge of the dical Departnt could the morale be stabilized."

As she spoke, Anko ca back with two glasses of water, placing one in front of Naruto.

"That was all in the past. She won’t be leading a team into battle anymore, and who knows if there will even be another war?" Naruto muttered vaguely.

"There probably will be. The current situation isn’t balanced at all." Anko analyzed with a hint of concern, "The reason Konoha and Sunagakure are forming an alliance is to fight against Iwagakure, right?"

"But aren’t you, as a Jonin, also going to end up on the battlefield?" Naruto asked.

"If war did co, avoiding the battlefield won’t be possible." Anko said, sipping her water in small gulps, "Although I don't really want to go, it’s for the village after all."

Anko's words were straightforward, and there was no airs between the two of them. One was lazy, and the other was just as lazy, both wishing they could do less and earn more.

They were the ultimate slackers. Anko was even the kind of person who would leave work two hours early.

Their most intimate interaction probably happened that one ti, but Anko didn’t seem to take it seriously. They were both adults, each only getting what they needed.

She didn’t think she liked Naruto all that much, she just found it comfortable being around him. After all, she wasn’t planning on staying a virgin forever, even though she still was one now.

If she had to give it to soone, why not him? It seed like a win-win situation.

She wasn’t planning on getting married anyway. Her life had been too rocky, starting with great cards that had all turned sour. Now, nearing thirty, she hadn’t had many smooth days.

With no expectations for life, she didn’t have any for love either. She was far past her teenage years, and now her only passion was food.

"Do you plan on ending up with Ino or Hinata?" As they were chatting, Anko suddenly shifted the topic to romance and asked curiously.

"Why do you care so much?" Naruto curled his lips, ‘These people are really gossipy.’

But deep down, he was a little worried, ‘Were that many people really watching ? It seems I’d have to be more careful in the future. If things ever blew up, it’d be a huge headache.’

"I’m just curious." Anko said nonchalantly, "Honestly, whichever one you pick, it’s not that big of a deal. Whether it’s the Yamanaka or Hyuga Clans, they’d both welco you as a son-in-law."

"If you want both, well…"

"I don’t! Stop making stuff up!" Naruto sat up on the couch.

"Relax, I’m just teasing." Anko said lazily, leaning back against the couch, "I just think that with your personality, you will definitely not suffer any loss."

"Wouldn’t surprise if you planned to string Ino and Hinata along, then find so excuse or wait for the right mont."

"What about you?" Naruto couldn't stand it anymore and quickly changed the subject, feeling that Anko knew him too well.

‘If she keeps talking, even my underwear will be stripped off.’

"?" Anko also sat up, "I don’t know. I’ve gotten used to being alone. The idea of adding soone to my life at this age and going through all that like a lovesick teenager? That’s not happening."

"Sotis I envy Asuma and Kurenai, they were childhood sweethearts, and it was natural for them to get married and have children. But when I actually think about it, it just seems so hard."

"Getting along with soone, working through all the rough spots… it’s such a hassle. And if it doesn’t work out, you’re back to square one. It’s better not to start at all."

"I see." Naruto’s response was indifferent as he glanced at her.

It seed like Anko had taken his advice about cutting down on sugar. Naruto didn't know if it was an illusion, but he suddenly felt that Anko’s waist seed to have beco thinner and her hips also seed rounder.

Her pale feet rested on the glass coffee table, the red nail polish vibrant like crimson blossoms on snow.

"You didn’t co here just to chat, did you?" Anko looked at him and asked probingly, "I rember you’re not this well-behaved."

Naruto: “…”
