For Song Cheng, today was a good day.

A double celebration.

Tie Zhenyi had returned victoriously from Northern Snow State.

Su Ningyu had passed on the news through Ling, confirming that Su Houzhang was dead.

He escorted Sister An, who was visibly pregnant, out of the secret realm and back to the An Family, where she felt most at ho. He then stayed ho, accompanying her on strolls to relax.

A pregnant woman needed a good mindset, but with all the recent wars, the invisible ghost servants, and family matters, it was a wonder that An Chenyu hadn’t collapsed yet.

For Song Cheng, growing stronger was just for enjoying good days.

So, with the crisis averted, his mood improved significantly.

...

In the An Family dining hall...

"Open wide," Song Cheng said aloud.

An Chenyu sweetly replied, "Oh."

She opened her mouth, letting her husband feed her the freshly peeled shrimp.

A considerable pile of shrimp shells had already accumulated on one side of the table.

An Chenyu rubbed her belly, bowing her head, "Not even born yet, and your dad spoils you like this. Once you’re born, you might beco the Demon Lord of Mayhem."

Song Cheng chuckled, "Can’t it be for pampering Sister An instead?"

An Chenyu smiled sweetly but then rembered sothing, her face clouding over with worry, "Has the Ghost Tide co this year?"

Song Cheng replied, "Not yet, it doesn’t necessarily co every year."

"Really?"

An Chenyu seed skeptical, rembering clearly the large scale of the Ghost Tide earlier this year and suspecting it might co again.

"Yes." The young man stood, placed his hands on Miss An’s shoulders, "Just rest well. There’s no Ghost Tide this year, don’t overthink it."

The two indulged in affection for a while longer until Miss An felt drowsy and was led back to her room by Ling.

Song Cheng smiled as he watched them leave, full of reassurances like "It’s fine, no Ghost Tide this year." But once they were completely out of sight, his face turned serious. He finished the remaining shrimp on the table to avoid wasting food and then glanced around at the maidservants and servants, saying, "Don’t bring out those rumors into the household."

"Yes," the maids and servants responded in agreent.

Song Cheng got up and walked out of the inner residence.

Outside, Zhao Hua was pacing back and forth. Seeing him exit, he hurried over, calling, "Big brother."

Song Cheng nodded.

Zhao Hua leaned closer, lowering his voice, "We don’t know if the Ghost Tide will erupt this year, but there’s been significant changes outside. Our spies discovered many strange pits."

Song Cheng said, "I suspect those frenzied high-level ghost servants crawled out of these pits. Let’s call them Ghost Pits."

"Ghost Pits, quite fitting," Zhao Hua agreed.

Song Cheng continued, "The existence of Ghost Pits might delay the Ghost Tide’s arrival... but when the next one finally cos, it might be incredibly terrifying."

Zhao Hua nodded.

To Hua, whatever his big brother said was always right.

The two headed to Shanhe Martial Arts Hall. After returning victoriously, Tie Zhenyi invited not just the two of them, but also Ouyang Sha, and the new Taoist Temple Master of Pearl Mountain, Tong Jia.

These five were the "Five Giants" of Hanping Prefecture and its eighteen subordinate counties.

Looking at their relationships, the five were practically family.

...

Tong Jia ca directly from Pearl Mountain Taoist Temple, not taking the sa route as Song Cheng and Zhao Hua.

Her work mainly involved making "Manifestation Water" and preparing various secret dicines, as well as distributing dicinal humans to the subordinate counties to prepare for the possibly impending Ghost Tide.

Compared to Lady Zhushan, Madam Tong’s sense of responsibility was off the charts. Every day, she thought, "If I make a bit more Manifestation Water, prepare a few more secret dicines, arrange a few more dicinal humans, perhaps many more common people could survive."

So, when in the secret eting hall of Shanhe Martial Arts Hall, Song Cheng, Zhao Hua, Tie Zhenyi, and Ouyang Sha had been seated and drinking tea for nearly half an hour, Madam Tong rushed in, exclaiming, "Sorry I’m late."

The four stood up with smiles, clasping their hands in greeting, "Taoist Temple Master Tong."

Madam Tong cast a sidelong glance at Song Cheng, seeing his respectful deanor while calling her "Taoist Temple Master Tong," she couldn’t help but roll her eyes, then sat next to him.

She was also quite familiar with Zhao Hua, as he had often shalessly sought secret dicines, dicinal humans, and various resources from her previously...

So, at that mont, she assud the dignified role of his elder sister-in-law, saying, "Hua, why are you also being mischievous with your brother?"

Zhao Hua scratched his head, smiled sheepishly, and didn’t respond.

Just from his appearance, anyone might think he was an honest and simple man, but Madam Tong knew... Hua’s heart was darker than ink.

But... Hua’s brother was much the sa.

"They say if people aren’t suited for each other, they wouldn’t marry. How did I end up marrying your big brother?" Madam Tong hadn’t seen Song Cheng for a while and continued her chatter.

Song Cheng replied, "Back then, I didn’t understand anything. Wasn’t it because I spent so much ti with you, Madam... the saying goes, ’Proximity to red makes you red, proximity to ink makes you black.’"

Madam Tong’s eyes sparkled mischievously as she playfully said, "Pshaw."

Not far off, Tie Zhenyi lightly coughed.

Both imdiately fell silent, showing respect.

The "dog food ti" was cut short.

Ouyang Sha remarked, "Old Tie, this ti you returned victorious, aren’t you going to say sothing over drinks?"

Tie Zhenyi said, "Old Venom, you seem quite sprightly these days... why? Is your daughter finally getting married?"

Without waiting for a response, he continued, "This ti, going out, I feel deeply moved. We didn’t exert much effort attacking Northern Snow State."

He looked at Ouyang Sha and added, "Old Venom, do you rember when we jointly fought against the Barbarian Tribes with the state army and the Six Towns?"

Without waiting for an answer, he continued, "Damn it! Both we and the state army fought desperately, but the Barbarian Tribes weren’t using their full strength, and the Six Towns..."
