Chapter 1488: Chapter 1488: We Are All Happy

The morning incident in the bedroom was tacitly understood by both Shen Chi and Xu Chaomu, and neither of them brought it up again.

However, Xiaobao, with his sharp eyes, noticed that when Mommy ca downstairs in the morning, she had a new pretty ring on her hand.

“Mommy, your ring is so pretty! Who gave it to you?” Xiaobao tilted his head and asked curiously.

“Of course, your dad gave it to .”

“Dad is so generous! But why doesn’t Dad give a ring too?”

“This is a wedding ring. You only get one when you get married,” Xu Chaomu explained. “And besides, rings are a symbol of love and commitnt. Do you understand?”

“Oh, I get it. Dad doesn’t love , obviously.”

“…” Xu Chaomu didn’t know how to explain further and gave Shen Chi a helpless look.

Shen Chi ignored Xiaobao, rely patting the table. “Co have breakfast!”

“Oh!” Xiaobao happily trotted over.

Not long after Christmas ca New Year’s, and Xu Chaomu attended Lou Yanli’s engagent party. Naturally, she dragged Shen Chi along as well.

Seeing Lou Yanli all dressed up in his suit, Xu Chaomu sighed to herself at how fast ti flies. Once it’s gone, it’s never coming back.

But fortunately, we’re all happy now.

Tong Shuyi was beautiful, the kind of beauty that was fresh, delicate, and modest, with just a hint of shyness. Just like her na—graceful and elegant.

Lou Yanli’s engagent ceremony wasn’t a grand affair, attended only by close friends and cherished relatives.

Shen Chi and Xu Chaomu kept a low profile. While chatting quietly with Shen Chi, Xu Chaomu couldn’t help but ask, “What was your first impression when you t Lou Yanli?”

“What kind of impression could I have of another guy?”

“Not that kind of impression! I an… your first thoughts!” Xu Chaomu rolled her eyes at him.

“I thought, if he dared to take my wife, I’d have to kill him.”

“…” Xu Chaomu facepald. Can she pretend she doesn’t know Shen Chi?!

“Shen Chi, back in the day, you punished by making run laps on the track. I hated you to death!” Xu Chaomu brought up the past, gnashing her teeth.

“It was just so running. If you want, you can punish by making do push-ups every day from now on.”

“…” Xu Chaomu was stunned. Did he have to be so shaless?! What happened to elegance? Dignity? It must’ve been eaten by dogs!

At Lou Yanli’s engagent banquet, Xu Chaomu had a bit of wine but made sure not to drink too much, just a few sips.

It had been a long ti since she last drank; her joy was genuine.

As the banquet ended, Lou Yanli and Tong Shuyi personally escorted Xu Chaomu and Shen Chi to their car.

“Chaomu, thank you for coming,” Lou Yanli said with a smile.

“When it’s my wedding, you have to co as well. Wishing you and Shuyi a lifeti of happiness together.”

“Definitely.”

In the misty night, Xu Chaomu looked at Lou Yanli. For one fleeting mont, it felt as though ti hadn’t moved at all…

For that fleeting mont, she found herself rembering high school, sitting on the swing with Lou Yanli as he read poetry to her.

The hazy night, dancing shadows under the moon, felt otherworldly.

Ultimately, Shen Chi forcibly pushed Xu Chaomu into the car.

“Drive,” Shen Chi ordered the driver in a low voice.

“Hey, Shen Chi, I haven’t said a proper goodbye to Lou Yanli yet.”

“What, planning a heartfelt confession too?” Shen Chi raised an eyebrow and looked at her aningfully.

“Jealous again? Lou Yanli and I are just classmates and good friends.”

“That’s not good enough. He’s your ex-boyfriend.”

“Hmm?” Xu Chaomu froze, then burst into laughter. “You an in high school? That was just him and playing a trick on you!”

Now it was Shen Chi’s turn to be speechless. A prank? To think he believed it all these years, guarding against Lou Yanli like a thief.

Shen Chi leaned closer, exuding an air of danger. Narrowing his eyes at Xu Chaomu, he asked, “How exactly did you trick ?”

Unaware of the looming danger, Xu Chaomu said gleefully, “We simply tead up to prank you. But back then, he did like for real and asked to be his girlfriend. But I liked you…”

As she spoke, her face turned red with shyness. “But I couldn’t let go of you, even though you bullied all the ti. So I just told Lou Yanli that we should pretend to be a couple to ss with you.”

Shen Chi didn’t respond, his eyes narrowing as a faint smile lifted the corners of his lips.

Collaborated to trick , huh? Very good.

“And then, I noticed you were really upset, though I didn’t know why. That’s how it went,” Xu Chaomu explained.

“Xu Chaomu, you’re sothing else, pulling a stunt like that in high school,” Shen Chi muttered.

“And didn’t you trick too? Saying you were going to marry Bai Man…” Xu Chaomu retorted unhappily.

“That was a stopgap asure,” Shen Chi replied.

“Well, so was mine…”

At this point, Xu Chaomu suddenly felt a bit sad and lancholic. She said in a low voice, “You don’t know, but before I turned eighteen, Aunt Zhou ca to find . She told the Shen Family had raised for eighteen years and that I should leave the Shen Family and stay away from you.”

“Actually, I didn’t want to leave. I thought, if you’d just say you didn’t want anymore, I’d go…” Xu Chaomu’s voice trembled with sadness. “But then you really got engaged. And Bai Man was going to move into the Shen Family. I thought you truly didn’t want anymore… Back then, I had already planned to leave, far, far away…”

“I didn’t expect all those things to happen after that…” Xu Chaomu sighed reflectively.

It all felt like a dream.

Suddenly, Shen Chi’s lingering anger dissipated. Pulling her into his arms, he gently stroked her hair.

“I’m sorry, Mumu. I never knew my mom had said those things to you back then… My engagent to Bai Man was just a temporary asure. I planned to break it off once I returned from South Africa.” Shen Chi’s voice was low. “I’m sorry for all the lost years.”

Xu Chaomu never expected Shen Chi, who wasn’t usually an emotional person, to be so affected. It must’ve really touched him.

Xu Chaomu smiled instead. “It doesn’t matter. It’s all in the past. Look at us now; aren’t we doing fine? We even have a baby.”

“Yeah.” Shen Chi realized he had been a bit overly emotional and cleared his throat. “From now on, keep your distance from Lou Yanli.”

“I’ve already told you we were never really a couple. It was just to annoy you.”

“Doesn’t matter. Keep your distance. Understood?”

“Can’t hear you.”

“…”

Shen Chi had had a bit to drink that night too. He pressed a resentful kiss to Xu Chaomu’s lips and shut the divider.

His kiss lingered for a long ti before he finally pulled away, his fingers softly brushing against her ear lobe. In a low whisper by her ear, he murmured, “Wanna try it in the car?”

“No way!” Xu Chaomu imdiately glared at him.

“Look at you, getting all worked up like a little wildcat!” Shen Chi laughed.

The two were so close that Shen Chi’s breath tickled Xu Chaomu’s face, making her cheeks flush.

To be honest, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to. It was more of an instinctive reaction to blurt out her refusal.

Co to think of it, Shen Chi had been holding back for a long ti, and so had she. Especially when he kissed her, every cell in her body seed to scream out, longing for him.

Their intimacy was the greatest temptation. It was like feathers brushing against their hearts—ticklish and electrifying all at once.
