Chapter 1398: Chapter 1398: Chaomu’s Mother’s Affairs

“We’re brothers, there’s no such thing as what should have been.” Shen Chi said indifferently.

“I discovered a long ti ago that Shihan had hidden arms in Shen’s warehouse. I wanted to tell you at the ti, but Shihan wouldn’t let , and I was scared, so I never said anything. Now that I think about it, if I had told you, maybe today’s events wouldn’t have happened.” Mo Shuifu was full of regret.

Her face was covered with a faint layer of sorrow, as light as mist, and the usually bright eyes were now devoid of luster.

“What’s past is past, there’s no need to bla yourself too much,” Shen Chi said.

Seeing Shen Shihan on the hospital bed, he also felt unease in his heart.

Especially after Shen Shihan’s subordinate said those words to Xu Chaomu, he found it even harder to hate Shen Shihan.

Their covert battles had drawn in many innocent people, Nie Chenglang was one, and so was Mo Shuifu.

“Fourth Young Master, no matter what, I still want to thank you.” Mo Shuifu lowered her head.

“No need, just take good care of Shihan and yourself.”

“Fourth Master, do you know… when I found out that Shihan had saved back then, I thought our fate was already destined…” Mo Shuifu’s eyes were sowhat hazy.

Shen Chi frowned and remained silent.

“To have t him, I am already very content.” Mo Shuifu looked towards the hospital bed with tender eyes.

For a long while, neither Mo Shuifu nor Shen Chi spoke, and the ward was silent.

Outside the window, the flowers were in full bloom, the trees were lush, and light filtered through the light green curtains, casting patterns on the lightly textured floor, signifying a vibrant life.

Shen Chi and Mo Shuifu were not very familiar with each other, and then he had his assistant bring in so things he had bought, including nutritional supplents for Mo Shuifu and so baby supplies specially picked by Xu Chaomu.

Xu Chaomu knew Mo Shuifu was due to give birth soon, and she surely had no heart to prepare these things. Xu Chaomu also did her part to show her sincerity.

After visiting Shen Shihan, Shen Chi went to Shen Cexian’s ward.

Recently, he and Shen Yanrou had talked a few tis in private, Shen Yanrou refusing to take over Shen Shihan’s company, entrusting it to Shen Chi, deciding to settle abroad with Liu Rui in the future.

Liu Rui had been emotionally unstable during this ti, frequently in tears.

His father Shen Cexian had not treated them unfairly, giving them a substantial fortune.

Zhou Ran no longer held a grudge against them, often allowing them to visit Shen Cexian.

Thinking back on the radical changes in the Shen Family over the years, Shen Chi was filled with emotion.

After arriving at Shen Cexian’s ward, Shen Chi spoke a few words with him. Shen Cexian no longer confronted Shen Chi, after all, Xu Chaomu now had two children and the young couple was very happy together.

When Shen Chi visited, Shen Cexian only talked about business matters, seldom ntioning family affairs.

It was said that Shen Group’s business was climbing higher every year, and with the acquisition of Bai Family’s company, Shen’s position in C City was unshakable.

When Zhou Ran returned with breakfast, Shen Chi happened to still be there.

“Achi, have you had breakfast?” Zhou Ran asked.

“Yes.”

“Then Cexian, get up for breakfast, otherwise you’ll get hungry,” Zhou Ran said as if speaking to a child.

Shen Chi slightly curled his lips, this reminded him more of his childhood, although Zhou Ran and Shen Cexian had fought far more often than they had shown affection.

“Alright, alright, I’m getting up now,” Shen Cexian responded childishly.

“Achi, why didn’t Chaomu co?” Zhou Ran looked around.

“The little guy in her belly was too lively last night; it was only this morning that she finally fell asleep,” Shen Chi said, “So I didn’t disturb her.”

“Pregnancy is indeed hard. You should take extra care of her. If she gets a little temperantal, just indulge her,” Zhou Ran said.

“I know,” Shen Chi nodded.

Zhou Ran helped Shen Cexian with breakfast, then tidied up the hospital room. She had bought a fresh bouquet of baby’s breath, which was just right for the table in the room.

With the bouquet, the hospital room felt more lively.

After Zhou Ran finished all this, Shen Chi walked up to her and said in a low voice, “I want to talk to you about sothing.”

Zhou Ran paused, and after a mont, she ca back to her senses, turned her head to look at Shen Chi, and slightly nodded.

Shen Chi rarely spoke to her in such a tone, and she had a pretty good idea of what was coming.

Making an excuse, Zhou Ran and Shen Chi walked downstairs together.

The hospital in the early morning was brimming with life, countless people running, and a group of children chasing and frolicking around.

The air was filled with the fresh scent of flowers and grass, a unique fragrance of sumr that refreshed the mind and soul.

Dressed in a white shirt, Shen Chi looked gentle and handso, his hands in his dress pants pockets, silently walking on the hospital’s path.

Zhou Ran, much shorter than him, was wearing a white knitted cardigan, also silent, walking beside Shen Chi.

“Ask what you want to ask,” Zhou Ran’s voice was light and clear.

Shen Chi’s gaze was fixed straight ahead, his piercing eyes seemingly coated in a thin and icy frost.

“I want to talk about Chaomu, to be precise, about Chaomu’s mother,” said Shen Chi, getting straight to the point.

“Speak freely,” she responded.

“Last year, a middle-aged man who claid to have been a witness 17 years ago found Chaomu in Jin City,” Shen Chi said, “He told Chaomu explicitly that he could testify in court.”

“Then what?” Zhou Ran’s expression remained unchanged, and her tone was calm.

“He told Chaomu to think it over,” Shen Chi said. “In fact, the year before that, he had already made a recording for Chaomu, detailing the incident from 17 years ago.”

Then, Shen Chi talked to Zhou Ran about the incident from the year before.

Back in the coffee shop, he had been impulsive and mistook Xu Chaomu without listening to her explanation.

That incident directly allowed Bai Man to take advantage, and he almost lost his child. He had been trying to make it up ever since, but the regret in his heart could not be erased.

Now, bringing up this incident again, his heart still churned like waves, unable to calm down.

Zhou Ran walked beside Shen Chi, silently listening to him as if she was listening to a story.

It was only after Shen Chi finished talking about the incident that she spoke faintly, “What did that witness say?”

“He said that a few hours before the fire 17 years ago, the person who went to Xu ngxi’s house was you,” Shen Chi said heavily.

“What else?” Zhou Ran was still very calm.

“That’s all.”

“He’s not wrong; that person was .”

Shen Chi frowned; hearing these words from the witness’s mouth and hearing Zhou Ran’s personal confession were different.

Shen Chi was sowhat shocked, but his face remained as calm as ever.

Seeing that Shen Chi didn’t speak, Zhou Ran slightly moved her lips, the corners of her mouth revealing a spread of bitterness: “Are you going to ask why I went to find Xu ngxi next? And how did I know Xu ngxi was in that secluded place?”

Shen Chi still didn’t speak, but his silence was an acknowledgnt.
