Chapter 37: ATTACK ON THE BASE

"We will land here," Bryan said, his voice echoing through the aircraft.

They were already close to the base as described by Lilura. To avoid suspicion, he decided they would continue the journey on foot.

The pilot found a space spacious enough to let him hover just over the ground.

There was no need to land fully. He only needed to give them the chance to jump down from the plane.

Soon, the rear of the plane began to open, revealing hundreds of Veritas Corps mbers, fully ard.

On their armor were various weapons, ranging from swords to spears to daggers, everything strapped neatly to their backs.

Then, on their side was a black pistol.

It was Silas’s rifle, transford into a pistol for convenience.

"From here on, the mission to destroy the Crimson Fang has comnced," Bryan said into the intercom.

As if to boost their morale, he jumped out of the plane first.

It worked.

The mbers of the corps jumped down following Bryan’s action.

As they landed, the ground trembled slightly from their combined weight.

But they could not care less. They set their plans in motion, everyone splitting into teams that moved separately.

Silas was among them, also dressed in the standard armor. Beside him were Alia and Lilura, both dressed in the armor too.

"We go this way," he said, pointing at a route none of the other corps mbers had taken.

According to the plan, the corps mbers were to spread across the periter of the base to ensure no one escaped.

Both of them nodded, as did the others behind them.

For this mission, Silas was the captain of a squad of 15.

The team ran through the streets, their forms enveloped in the darkness of the night.

Soon, they reached the base, a warehouse that spanned close to two kiloters.

"So this is their base," Silas muttered, finally understanding why no one had suspected the place.

It was surrounded by a market.

"Don’t be fooled, the market n are also on their side," Lilura said from beside him.

Silas nodded calmly. "You said that before."

The group waited. They were not to move until they received a signal from Bryan.

Silas turned back, looking at Alia who only stood there, staring at him coldly.

Silas shook his head. What is it this ti? he wondered.

After waiting for about 20 minutes under the cover of the bush, Bryan finally spoke into the intercom.

"Attack." The word was calm but it carried the absolute finality of a commander who had long since seen his enemy as dead and was rely acting to complete the deed.

Without a word, the group shot through the bush.

The market n were caught by surprise by the sudden intrusion.

Seeing hundreds of corps mbers appear on their premises, they knew one thing: they had been busted.

One of the n hurried to pick a sword from under his table but before he could even draw it, a thin line appeared on his neck.

His eyes widened as his head fell to the floor.

Similar scenes were happening around the market.

The operation was so perfectly planned that they killed all of them before they could even alert the others in the warehouse.

Bryan wiped the blood from his sword before returning it to its sheath.

"Check around for any escapees, we enter in 5," Bryan said.

The team began to move around, checking every nook and cranny of the place.

"So you are going to protect ," Lilura said to Silas as she walked closer to him.

Silas nodded and looked away.

Lilura saw this and frowned. "Why are you avoiding ? Is this your way of protecting ?" she asked in a low, seductive voice.

"I can protect you when the need arises, no need to get this close to ."

Silas did not like her thod of approaching him and he was sure a certain soone else hated it too.

He looked to his right, where Alia sat, staring at him.

Lilura followed his gaze and sighed. She walked away from Silas and continued searching with the rest of the team.

"Okay, ti to enter," Bryan said into the intercom, prompting everyone to stop whatever they were doing.

Everyone converged in front of the massive warehouse gate, waiting for Bryan to finish whatever he was doing.

Bryan’s sword was engulfed in lightning. The sparks danced over the tip, arcing like snakes until they all condensed into a single point.

With perfect timing, Bryan swung his sword, the lightning cleaving through the gate like butter.

A loud thud echoed through the air as the gate split in two.

The place was so rowdy that even the sound of the gate was drowned in the noise.

They were all mbers of the Crimson Fang, playing gas or torturing the slaves at the far end of the room.

"This place is too disorderly," Silas muttered.

The criminals felt the sudden change in the airflow.

Instinctively, they looked towards the gate.

Their eyes widened in realization. "The Veritas Corps," one of them yelled, quickly drawing his sword.

Everyone followed. They knew it was impossible to escape this kind of assault and made a decision: they might as well take as many down with them as they could.

Both sides roared as they charged into each other. Neither of them bothered to speak or assess the situation.

The ground quaked from their combined force.

The slaves at the back began to pray to whatever god they could.

In battles like this, collateral damage was inevitable and no one wished to be a victim of it.

The corps accounted for this.

A mber slipped through the chaos, planting a barrier just before the prison.

"I finally get to battle the general Bryan, it is an honor," the captain in charge of the place roared, swinging his great sword at Bryan from a distance.

"You can die with the honor," Bryan replied, ducking beneath the sword with the finesse of a cat.
