William and Wilfred bantered like that for a mont before William stopped and asked seriously.
"Why… why now?"
Sensing the mont, Wilfred gave a large sigh, "I didn’t know."
William gave him a confused look. What didn’t he know?
He didn’t know about the misbehaviors on ?
He didn’t know that I was kicked out?
Or was it, He didn’t know that I was kicked out intentionally without any fault?
"I didn’t know that you existed."
"…" William stared down at the campfire and felt the silence overwhelm them.
The silence has always been a comforting or saddening place for him and right now it was sowhat saddening.
"He didn’t tell , Ervin… He’s not really that good at-" Coming to this point Wilfred shook his head heavily.
"No… no I can’t put the bla on soone else." Wilfred looked straight ahead at William, "Negligence… the true cause was negligence."
William too looked ahead without any emotion holding him down, why should he feel sad? Wasn’t he already out of that house? Isn’t he building his own?
So why… did it feel so empty knowing that nobody even knew about him outside that house?
"I never tried to stay at one place, it was always in the na of either going adventuring or helping soone else in the na of honor." Wilfred paused, "But it was actually negligence on my part."
"Negligence on how absent I was on showing my duty and helping my son."
"Negligence on running away from family when they needed ."
"And Negligence on not knowing that my youngest grandson has been toyed like such and thrown away to the streets to fend for himself."
"…"
"…"
"…I’m sorr-"
"Enough with all of that," William stopped him, "You didn’t answer my question."
"Why Now?"
"That’s the thing… I don’t know how to start explaining this to you." Wilfred said.
"I didn’t know about you until a year back and when I did, I searched for you at many many places."
"Unfortunately, everywhere I looked, I couldn’t find you."
"So it felt like a new door had opened up when I finally did found you." William felt confused at that.
How did he find him?
He was sure that he had erased all of the past traces and even left Delmar to keep an eye on and see if anyone was going through those steps.
"You’re probably thinking, how I found you didn’t I?" Wilfred said but William gave no indication, but he told nonetheless.
"It was on a rainy night"
[ Wilfred Viewpoint ]
After another fruitless search, I walk into this dump of a towns fanciest 2-and-a-half-star bar. I walked towards a stool before the bar and sat down.
The bartender, a young girl, ca up to with a smile and said, "Wat do you want, sar?"
"Give the strongest brandy you got."
"Aight." The girl chipped and went to annoy other people. It wasn’t long before a semi well level of brandy was given to .
I took one gulp and felt the drink went past my throat and felt a little disappointed at it.
It wasn’t good enough.
But it wasn’t rely it’s fault.
I was soone who could drink gallons of alcohol and still walk straight in a rainy night.
Which reminds , today was one.
I took a look down at the brandy and it gave a reflection of a strong man… but I know the truth.
This man wasn’t strong… his just pretending to be one, while avoiding his responsibilities.
Responsibilities? Feels like a heavy word.
The day’s mories ca back to as I gave a long sigh and another lost attempt at not finding my grandson even in this dump of a town.
It was another dead-end. I searched for the boy and tracked his traces but it always ended at a dead-end. I searched for him everywhere, the streets, bars, stations, prostitution rings, slavers and even at the black market… but still nothing.
I even searched at ceteries or related to places and hoped to never see a body which was malnourished and had golden eyes. Hopefully I didn’t.
At least it ant that he was still out there and I still have a chance at finding him.
Even if his father gave up, even if his own goddamn of a mother gave up… I Won’t.
I will even dug up the fucking earth, if it ans that I can find a trace of him.
but where to?
I sighed again…
I drank the average level brandy as the young bartender ca to .
"You alright, darling?"
"No… no I’m not."
"Oh, what’s wrong? Your wife didn’t walk out on you, did she?" She asked with sudden worry.
I laughed at that question, "SHE… walk out on , haha… never in a million years."
"So what’s the matter?" She said while wiping a glass with a towel.
The tis might have been advanced but it didn’t an people did. The machines cost a lot and not everybody can afford them. That may be the reason why the girl is wiping that glass instead of a robot.
"Just… looking for my grandson."
She ca closer as worry etched her face, "Is he lost?"
"In a way."
She sighed and patted my shoulder, "I pray to the gods that you can find him as quickly as possible and in good health too."
"Thanks… God’s do I know how much I need a prayer to be heard."
"Well, don’t worry," She smiled kindly, "I’m sure that you will find him if you remain patient. My mother always said patience is the greatest virtue."
I drank another gulp, "Well then, your mother is definitely a better man-… woman-… person than … I think."
She laughed hearing my words, maybe the drink was getting . I couldn’t tell with how much thought about ’where to go and what to look for’ was going through my head.
"Now isn’t he a fine boy."
"Who?"
"That boy right over there. He looks quiet good on live television." She said with a dreamy voice.
"Oh?" I didn’t care much about that. "Good for him." Good looking brats on tv were never what they portrayed to be.
"You know what?... He looks sowhat similar to you."
"What?"
"Now that I take a deep look… Yeah, he really does." The girl said with a laugh. It was another attempt at trying to make feel better.
"Those dashing golden eyes- they eerily look similar." The girl said now sowhat confused.
So in mild curiosity, I looked up too and when my eyes landed on the tv… Gods did my heart stop.
I was looking at a similar… NO, it felt like I was looking at my father, but in his young days.
The face, the boldness and DAMN! Those eyes… Those Straight Golden Eyes that feared nothing and judged everyone in the world. Your journey continues at empire
It felt all too similar to be a fault.
I can’t be wrong… not when it’s THIS close to him.
It was him, wasn’t it.
I couldn’t find him so he showed himself to .
The glass slipped out of my hands and fell upon the bar.
"Oh! My, what a ss." The bartender said as she wiped the bar.
"That’s my grandson."
"What?" She asked, confused.
"That boy… is my grandson."
"Hmm…" The girl looked back and forth him and and couldn’t tell whether it was the alcohol that was talking or… was it really the case?
