Elysia sat stiffly in the plush velvet chair, her eyes darting around the room, taking in every inch of Malvoria's mother's office.

Unlike Malvoria's own office, which was cold, dark, and filled with the essence of absolute authority, this space was the complete opposite.

The walls were painted in a deep crimson, trimd with gold filigree, making the entire room feel warm rather than oppressive.

Large, extravagant tapestries hung from the walls, depicting past demon rulers—none of whom looked nearly as terrifying as Malvoria herself.

A massive chandelier hung overhead, its crystals glowing faintly with embedded magic, casting a soft light across the glossy blackwood floors.

And the furniture? Opulent. The desk alone looked like it had been crafted by a god, covered in intricate carvings of battle scenes and lined with gilded edges.

It was beautiful. And so, so different from Malvoria's minimalistic, no-nonsense space, which seed designed to make people uncomfortable.

Elysia fidgeted slightly in her chair before finally glancing at the woman sitting across from her, Malvoria's mother, who was studying her with an expression that could only be described as amused delight.

"...So," Elysia started cautiously. "You needed my help with sothing?"

The woman leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "Yes."

Elysia waited.

Malvoria's mother did not elaborate.

"...And that would be?"

A slow, devious smile stretched across the older woman's lips, making Elysia imdiately regret walking into this office.

"I wanted to discuss your marriage," she said sweetly.

Elysia choked on absolutely nothing. "Excuse ?"

Malvoria's mother waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, co now, dear. I don't get many opportunities to gossip, and my dear daughter refuses to tell anything about her personal life." She sighed dramatically, shaking her head. "It's truly tragic."

Elysia shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "I'm not sure how I can... help with that."

"You can tell everything."

Elysia imdiately shook her head. "No."

Malvoria's mother sighed, leaning back in her chair. "You're no fun. I had such high hopes for you."

Elysia crossed her arms. "I already have a headache."

"Oh, you humans are always so dramatic," Malvoria's mother said with a wave of her hand. Then she perked up as if rembering sothing. "Ah! But that's precisely why enemies-to-lovers is such a delightful trope."

Elysia blinked. "What."

Malvoria's mother nodded sagely. "You and my daughter have the perfect setup. Forced marriage, mutual disdain, dramatic monts of tension... oh, and let's not forget the rescue scene—classic romance material."

Elysia rubbed her temples. "This is not a story."

"That's exactly what people in stories say."

Elysia groaned.

Malvoria's mother, looking far too entertained, continued, "I must say, I was a bit skeptical about the whole marry-a-human situation at first, but I have to admit—watching you two interact is delightful."

Elysia scowled. "We fight constantly."

"Exactly."

"That's not—"

"And yet," Malvoria's mother interrupted smoothly, tilting her head, "she doesn't kill you."

Elysia paused.

"Think about it," the woman went on, clearly enjoying herself. "Malvoria is not a patient woman. She tolerates very few people. She trusts even fewer. And yet, you walk around the castle openly insulting her to her face, and you're still alive. That says sothing, doesn't it?"

Elysia's mouth opened—then closed.

Malvoria's mother smirked. "Oh, she likes you."

Elysia's face burned. "She—she does not—"

"Oh, she definitely does."

"She—" Elysia gritted her teeth. "She's the one who's been avoiding all week."

Malvoria's mother actually cackled. "Oh, that's even better."

Elysia frowned. "How is that better?"

"Because it ans she's embarrassed."

Elysia froze.

"...Malvoria doesn't get embarrassed."

"Precisely," the older woman said smugly.

Elysia sat there, stunned.

Embarrassed? Malvoria?

The woman who had publicly executed nobles for treason without so much as blinking? The woman who had tortured spies for information while drinking a glass of wine? The woman who had held a blade to Zera's throat more tis than she could count?

No. No, there was no way.

Elysia refused to believe it.

"You must be mistaken," she said firmly.

Malvoria's mother just grinned.

Elysia inhaled sharply, trying to regain so semblance of control. "Even if that were true—which it's not—it doesn't an anything."

Malvoria's mother humd thoughtfully. "Maybe, maybe not. But let ask you sothing."

She leaned forward, resting her chin on her palm again.

"Did she confess?"

Elysia's brain short-circuited.

Her whole body locked up, her mouth going completely dry, her heart slamming against her ribs.

Because oh no.

Oh no no no no no no.

Because wasn't that exactly what had happened at the lake?

That quiet admission.

"You infuriate ... and yet, I can't stop looking at you."

"I don't know what this is... but when I'm with you, my heart does weird things."

Elysia's hands clenched into fists.

No.

No, no, no, she was not going to think about this.

Malvoria's mother knew. Sohow, she knew, and Elysia wasn't about to give her the satisfaction.

So she forced her face into neutrality.

"...No."

Malvoria's mother narrowed her eyes. "Are you lying?"

"Yes."

The woman burst into laughter.

Elysia groaned, burying her face in her hands.

She should have never co here.

Elysia exhaled sharply, rubbing her temples as she reluctantly muttered, "Well... Malvoria did say that her heart does weird things."

Malvoria's mother went completely still.

Then, very slowly, a delighted grin spread across her face. "Ohhh, that is priceless."

Elysia imdiately regretted saying anything.

The woman leaned forward, eyes glinting with pure mischief. "So let get this straight... My daughter—the terrifying, emotionally constipated, ruler of the Demon Kingdom—said out loud that her heart—" she clasped her hands together dramatically "—does weird things?"

Elysia groaned. "Please don't make this a big deal."

Malvoria's mother cackled. "Oh, but my dear, it is the biggest deal." She smirked. "I knew she was falling for you, but I never imagined she'd be so dramatic about it."

Elysia crossed her arms. "I wouldn't say she's falling for ."

Malvoria's mother waved a hand. "Oh, please. She's already gone. The mont she starts avoiding soone, it ans she feels too much and doesn't know what to do about it."

Elysia hesitated. "...You're sure about that?"

Malvoria's mother grinned, tapping a manicured finger against the desk. "Absolutely."

Then, with mock horror, she gasped. "Imagine! Malvoria, sitting in her office, brooding because she can't figure out why thinking about you makes her stomach feel weird!"

Elysia snorted before she could stop herself.

Malvoria's mother clasped her hands together. "She's probably glaring at the wall, arms crossed, muttering, 'How dare my heart betray like this?'"

Elysia choked on air.

Malvoria's mother smirked, leaning closer. "You have feelings for her, don't you?"

Elysia exhaled sharply, rubbing her temples as she reluctantly muttered, "Well... Malvoria did say that her heart does weird things."
