~THIRD PERSON POV~

"Let’s build a fire." Artemis clapped her hands together and began chanting and building the fire.

She took wood from a special pile. And as if she knew what they were thinking she explained. "This wood is for spell casting, the others are for potions, poisons, and cures. Each one picked for a specific reason, to enhance whatever I am doing with it."

Odette and Ambrose nodded in understanding.

"Now Odette I need a tear. From you." Artemasia held out a small scallop for her to place one in.

Odette, confused, raise an eyebrow at her and asked "Why?"

"Because the tears you shed are for the past. So, I’m looking into what you saw that made you cry. Now, if you would stop wasting my ti and cry in this pretty little shell so I can get on with this. I’d appreciate it." She said curtly and with annoyance in her tone.

"You are clearly not a people person." Odette snorted quietly under her breath.

"No, I’m not a patient person." She said glaring up from her mixing, "There’s a difference, now your fucking tear please. I’m doing you a solid by doing this, so chop, chop." She clapped her hands at Odette.

Which only pissed her off. It made Odette want to slap this stupid little witch, right in her face and pull the stick out of her ass.

Odette did concede and she closed her eyes.

She doesn’t cry in front of people, making it difficult to get the tear.

"Picture sothing sad. What was that one story you told ?" Ambrose said and then paused, "Oh yeah, that’s right, your 16th birthday."

As soon as Ambrose ntioned the party, her mind instantly went to the dead kitten in her first ever birthday gift from a peer.

Her heart ached profusely while she thought about the bloodied kitten, and how it must have died a horrible and painful death, how the kitten’s blood had exploded all over her. How they looked at her after and laughed.

Odette hung her head low and sniffled.

And there it was, swelling in the corner of her eye. Ambrose walked over slowly, taking the shell from Artemasia and placing it under her eye. Odette blinked her eyes a few tis letting the tear slip from her eyes and fall gracefully into the shell.

Ambrose carefully and cautiously handed the shell over to Artemasia.

He turned to Odette and his heart ached seeing her like this. It made him want to kill those girls the ones that got away.

Ambrose slid his hands under her jaw and gently lifted her face up.

His hands were so large her whole face fit in them perfectly. He used his thumb to wipe the remaining wetness on her cheek.

"Hey now, hey now, let’s stop crying over the past. We have what we needed my little fox, no need to let anymore fall." Ambrose had such a gentle and soft tone to his voice.

Artemasia looked at him with question eyes, skeptical if this was actually the Alpha King or an imposter in her house.

She’s never seen him be so caring and passionate before. This was a whole new side to Ambrose that Artemasia didn’t know could even exist in this man’s vengeful heart.

She was still surprised to see Odette here, in flesh, with no chains or collar. The collar she spent countless hours and effort into, for her to not even be wearing it. Ambrose had put her under so much pressure, just to have collar and he barely used the damn thing. Ambrose had plotted his revenge for years, and clearly none of it has gone according to plan.

What did this girl have, that none of the other she wolves had.

Artemasia rembered the prophecy, well most of it anyways.

’In the prophecy it talked about wolf sent for protection, could Ambrose be that wolf? The one Arya spoke of? Ugh, hate even thinking her na. Tacky little bitch.’ Artemasia thought to herself.

She still felt the sa dislike for Arya as she has over 20 years ago. Before becoming The Maiden, she rarely interacted with Arya, but then when Arya turned down the position, it was offered to . And ironically, she spent a lot more ti with Arya and liked her less and less.

The girl was carefree but in a reckless way. And Artemasia hated that, hated how Arya skipped out on coven duty, skipped out on coven events. Forgetting important etings, because she was distracted, or with friends or lost in her little world. She was selfish and irresponsible. She was a team player, except it wasn’t their team she played for. Artemasia was also jealous, she would never get away with what Arya has. And she’s nothing special, sure she started off as a weak witch, but she cultivated and sacrificed to grow powerful. Artemasia was jealous of the opportunity given to such an ordinary witch.

It irked her the most that Arya had be blessed with the possession of Artemis. Why hadn’t the goddess chosen her to speak of the prophecy?

These were questions that destroyed her, so she left the coven and changed her na and uses magic to constantly change her appearance. She was a lone witch now. Ambrose found her and liked her raw abrasive attitude, so he hired her as his personal resident witch. She didn’t have a coven, but she did lead a small group of witches and helped them learn to use and control their magic. It’s greatly improved the lives of many in the city. The city was abundant with different species. It was a hub and safe haven for people who go rogue.

Like Artemasia herself.

Ambrose even then was a cold and uncaring son of a bitch; it made it really hard for Artemasia to focus on the spell.

She had to interrupt them.

"You guys make sick, now go be all lovey dovey and weird sowhere other than in front of ."

Ambrose pulled away and smiled, nodded toward a couch and a coffee table with... magazines...? He was pleasantly surprised to see sothing so basic and common on a coffee table, like this is a lobby for the doctor’s office.

Except, when he sat down and they both picked up a magazine, they understood why these were here.

These were a witches catalog and gossip in the witch world. Basic, yet so how not. Still surprising to him, regardless.

Ambrose scrolled through the magazine and peaked up over it at Artemasia. He liked seeing her so focus and dedicated when she was determined. It just proved he made the right choice; there’s no witch as powerful and dedicated as her.

Odette frowned when she saw Ambrose gazing at Artemasia, it set her blood on fire, she was boiling.

Like how soone can stare like that, right in front of their so called mate.

The audacity of this man’ she thought her jack slightly ajar and her lips forming a pouty frown.

"You are so obvious its actually rude." Odette said standing up from the couch and moving away from him and taking a seat on a chair that was by itself away from the couch and snubbed him.

Leaving Ambrose confused, he didn’t get it? ’what did he do that upset her so suddenly.’

"Alright, the spell is ready, co over let’s do this.
