AMBROSE’S POV:
When my knee brushed hers, it was like I got zapped by static. Onyx began pacing in my mind. Every day he was getting more restless and active when we’re around her. Especially when I touch her.
And then when she told that she’s never drank alcohol. I was shocked. The girl was an adult, and vampires younger than her are drinking. Why not her?
And then when she told it was the boyfriend. My wolf, and maybe even a little piece of , got angry for her. Denied the simple pleasures in life, by a man whole live for only a small portion of hers.
That little fucking carrot Onyx growled when she told us.
Will never tell our princess what she can and can’t do. How dare soone with no royal lineage tell a royal what to do? Who the hell does this guy think he is?
We will change that, we will change her whole world won’t we, Ambrose.
I would show her what fun is, I would show her. Only a monster isn’t afraid of another monster. And that I alone would be all she needs.
Yes. That’s my boy.
I watched as she took her first sips, and the look on her face was priceless. Her cheeks instantly flushed. She was so cute the way her cheeks burned with embarrassnt.
She looked so innocent sharing this drink with , one could almost forget there’s a violent raging inferno burning just below the surface, and the only thing keeping that fire contained was the thin tal collar locked tightly around her neck.
I saw what she was capable of. What she could do if given the freedom. It was marvelous. Darkness has never looked so white.
It was divine watching her burn that little prick alive.
I wanted to know what else she was capable of if given the chance to freely explore it.
But I wasn’t stupid enough to let my curiosity override my sense of reason. I couldn’t free her of the collar until I knew she was mine. Heart and soul.
"Ever played Truth or Dare?" I asked her
She looked at with a puzzled expression. "What like the kids ga?"
"Yes, exactly like the kids ga." I laughed.
"Of course, but not since I was in grade school." She gave a pained expression, but only for a mont. Her hardened exterior was cracking. Only needed to push a little more.
"Then you definitely haven’t played it like this." My mind was already reeling with questions and dares.
This was going to be so much fun.
"Do tell, King Ambrose." She enunciated on king with her sarcasm.
"Here’s the rules. You can pick truth or dare. If you back out of one, you have to do the other or finish your entire drink." I gave her a mischievous grin.
"Fine, but you go first. Truth or Dare?" She asked before I could argue. Sneaky little fox.
"Truth"
I watched her frown; it made want to change my mind. I wonder what dare my little princess would have given .
"Hmmm... Na a ti you were ever afraid? One you haven’t told anyone." She asked leaning back in her seat.
"I wasn’t expecting you to be so basic."
"You always say I’m full of surprises." She joked with .
I watched as she took another sip.
I pondered and only one thing ca to mind... The first ti I ever killed sothing.
"I was six, my dad took out to hunt for the first ti, said I was old enough to know the importance of life and death." I took a deep breath; it’s the first ti I’ve spoken of this to anyone other than my mother. "We picked out a deer, and he handed a bow, I strung it and held the arrow tight. My posture was perfect. But I couldn’t shoot it. My father growled in the link, telling I’m weak, and how I’ll never be a good Alpha King if I can’t even kill a deer. He took my hands and aid my bow and released my arrow, killing the deer instantly."
I could feel the saddest in my heart. The fear of taking a life in cold blood. The sting of my father’s disappointnt when I failed him. I could rember it all so vividly.
"I was shaking with the bow in my hands. My father thought I was pathetic and weak; it rained later that day. And he forced to sit on my knees in the rain for the entire day into the night. No bathroom breaks. So, yes, when it got bad enough, it is what you think. When he ca back and slled it on , he was so disgusted he beat , but not with his bare hands, but with a cane. I never hesitated again."
"Wow... That’s really fucking insane. I’m so sorry." Her face was sad and hurt. She looked like so on had slapped her in the face.
I shot her a sharp glare. "I don’t need your pity."
"Good, I don’t have any to give anyways. I’m still sorry it happened. I can be sorry and it not be pity." She furrowed her brows and spoke to sternly.
"Your turn." I needed to get the spotlight off . I was not trying to make this a discovery channel special on my childhood trauma. "Truth or Dare."
"Truth, to match yours." She closed her hands together over her lap giving a knowing smirk.
"Why are you afraid of public places especially one’s where your exits are blocked?" Two can play the pain ga.
The color drained from her face, and I might have felt a bit of regret for asking about it, but I was desperate to know what could make such a fierce princess’ knees buckle under the weight of her own fear.
"If it wasn’t for the fact, you told yours, I wouldn’t tell you mine." She looked down at her hands, her body less relaxed and sat stiffly in the seat. The temperature in the cabin. "My mother and another witch compelled my entire party to keep this a secret. Lucky you, I wasn’t included."
She started to shiver, and I watched her throat gulp. She takes a sip of her drink and continues "Believe it or not, I don’t have a lot of friends. Like real ones. My parents kept isolated from the politics of the bight world and only showed to the whole of society at my birthday parties. So I never really care for my birthday, cause the people that ca always approached with ulterior motives. No one ever just wanted to be my friend. Only Delilah and Kalvin. I ca into my powers at 16. It was really exciting, I thought maybe, maybe I’d be accepted and... and... maybe even make friends."
She shifted around uncomfortably licking her lips and chugging her drink. I wave to the steward and signaled for a second drink.
"It just so happens, the opposite happened. A group of girls approached with a beautifully wrapped gift box. Which is a big deal, no guest had ever given a present directly, they were always placed on a table. I was beyond excited, my heart felt so full."
I watched her take another drink. "But when I opened the box..." A tear slid down her cheek. "when I opened it, the box was hexed and blood exploded from the box. Covering in a thick blanket or dark red blood. At the bottom of the box was my cat, well the campus cat that I adopted and fed at school."
She covered her face hiding herself from . And my heart ached for her.
"I exploded. I guess... I felt this burning rage inside , like sothing cracked. Power surged from , destroying the entire party sending people flying, shattering window, the floor shook and cracked beneath my feet. And by the ti I was done, everyone whispered the word monster. As I walked by."
I saw a flash in her eyes, as if a mory she’d long forgotten resurfaced.
"What?"
"Nothing..." She said much too quickly.
"I don’t believe that for a second. Tell ."
"Nope. Your turn. Truth or Dare?" Damn it.
