Chapter 653: 430 Chapter 653: 430 Having bid farewell to Orianna for the ti being, Chen Lun found a secluded corner out of sight and returned to the Dark World. He then made his way back to the surface of the present world.
Royal City Bixie Crost.
It was now deep into the night, with the Purple Moon hanging high, and the towering building of the Imperial Judgent Group stood under the veil of Nightfall.
Chen Lun changed back into his black hat and formal wear, leaning on his Silver Staff as he arrived at the entrance. He showed his identity plaque to the two guards hidden in the darkness and entered without any hindrance.
Even though it was late at night, there were still quite a few people moving around within the headquarters of the Judiciary. Chen Lun pulled his hat brim lower and went straight to the reception desk in the lobby, where he applied for a resting room.
“Mr. Jack Spett, here is the key to room 415. I wish you a pleasant rest,”
said the young woman in a yellow and white uniform, handing over a key with a respectful expression.
“Thank you,”
Chen Lun replied and, without lingering, turned to head upstairs.
Because the ti in the Land of Matthaios was opposite to that here, he had to wait until daylight to gather the mbers of the investigation team. Despite having slept once in the Tree Root Settlent, Chen Lun still felt sowhat tired, guessing it might have sothing to do with the underground environnt.
Especially that light orb called the Red Mother.
The light it emitted always made Chen Lun feel uncomfortable.
So, he took another sleep in the resting room of the Judiciary building.
The next morning.
The team mbers, having received the captain’s ssage, gathered early in the restaurant on the second floor.
“Captain!”
“Good morning, Captain.”
Lane, Xibei, and others had already finished preparing their als and sat around the dining table. Upon seeing Chen Lun approach, they quickly stood to greet him.
“Good morning,”
Chen Lun nodded in response.
After a night’s rest, he felt his spirits had returned.
Seeing Chen Lun without a plate in hand, Lane offered to get him so food. Chen Lun did not decline and thanked him with a smile.
“Captain Jack, I heard that Investigation Team Five broke down in the Dark World… Their entire team of eleven, including the captain, perished in action,”
Welles said hesitantly and somberly.
Chen Lun was montarily taken aback, but he quickly noticed the serious expressions on everyone’s faces and knew this was no rumor.
“This investigative operation was never going to be easy. The Dark World is fraught with peril. If it wasn’t for Captain Jack’s repeated interventions, we couldn’t have possibly co out unscathed…”
Federica’s voice erged from beneath the black veil covering her face.
Everyone nodded in firm agreent.
“Captain, I’ve got you toast, atballs, and salad, and your drink is hot milk. I hope you like it…”
Lane said as he returned with a plate, inquiring of Chen Lun.
“That’s fine, thank you,”
Chen Lun accepted with a smile and then gestured for Lane to sit.
Picking up a fork, Lane continued with his al and looked up to ask,
“Captain, we’ve had a day’s rest. When do we continue the operation?”
The rest of the team mbers also cast their gaze in anticipation.
Although they were aware of heavy losses suffered by many teams and knew from their own experiences that the Dark World was extrely dangerous, every mber was still eager to participate in the operation and complete the mission.
“We’ll set off after noon,”
Chen Lun responded, looking at their eager faces, chewed on his bread thoughtfully, and spoke slowly.
The team mbers imdiately smiled.
“Captain, teams led by Hamilton, as well as the fourth and seventh teams, have temporarily ceased operations due to excessive personnel losses… Currently, our Team One is making the fastest progress, having advanced deep into the Dark World. Moreover, the information about the Bronze Gate is unique amongst all the investigation teams, even breaking the record set by the first investigative mission…”
Lane said excitedly.
“Chief McCollin praised us for it, stating that His Majesty the Prince is quite satisfied after being inford of the situation.”
Chen Lun nodded.
“We can consider ourselves to have not let down the expectations of the Empire, but we must keep striving to uncover the root of the disturbances in the Spirit World as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Captain!”
The team mbers responded earnestly.

Just past noon.
Chen Lun led the mbers of Investigation Team One into the Spirit World.
After they had each taken a “True Sight Potion” and reached the Dark World directly, he had everyone hold hands to form a circle. Then, resting his hand on Lane’s shoulder, he activated his Sequence Ability, Cloud Leap.
Whoosh!
They instantly felt a tug of spatial movent, and once Lane ca to his senses and released a small orb of light for illumination, everyone could see the huge Bronze Great Gate not far away.
They had traversed a vast distance instantly, returning directly to the spot they had been before.
“The spatial transfer ability of the Path of Destiny, really convenient…”
Everyone marveled silently, their respect for the captain growing even deeper.
“Let’s go, we’re moving to the next level of space in the Dark World,”
Chen Lun said softly and strode towards the Bronze Great Gate.
The team mbers promptly acknowledged and followed closely behind him.
Dim fog continuously seeped from the gate, drifting in midair. Chen Lun held his breath and concentrated, leading the charge into the gate.
Whoosh!
In the next second, everyone had passed through to the other side.
Looking back, the Bronze Gate still stood staunchly behind them, but the terrain nearby seed to have changed sowhat.
The second layer of the Dark World was just as pitch-black as the first, the sensation of oppression and suffocation was even greater. The light of Lane’s orb seed squashed by so invisible force, the radius it illuminated was scarcely half of what it was on the previous level.
