Gewas, Ryan, and Tapiya had used their Sequence Ability to encoffin themselves, allowing their shadows to attach to their bodies and undergo transformations and enhancents.
Three towering dark figures, each sprouting two pairs of shadowy arms, fiercely clashed with the invisible Incarnation of the Saint.
Between the clanging sounds, sparks appeared out of nowhere on their bodies. The unusually tough shadow mud showed various depressions and scratches, as if struck by various attacks, but the nature and origin of the assaults were impossible to catch with the naked eye.
"Damn it!"
Tapiya's six arms blurred with afterimages, blocking dozens of dense attacks in succession, but he was still blasted tens of ters away, breaking three tal lampposts before sliding across the street again, shattering and scattering paving stones, and spitting blood from his mouth.
His two companions were hardly in better shape, each dodging while injured.
All three were among the best mbers of the Generous Council's Golden Cup, exceptionally strong in every aspect. Yet, facing the Incarnation of the Saint for the first ti, they were still at a loss.
The Incarnation of the Saint, proficient in the sa conspiratorial thods they knew, even surpassing them in skill and effect. By comparison, they seed like re novices.
The Incarnation of the Saint had the combat experience and techniques of an original body and also carried a whiff of Mythical essence. Even a simple strike from him put them on constant defense, a small mishap away from severe injury.
"The Rothfuss Family's Incarnation of the Saint... Even in a damaged state, I can't possibly beat him one-on-one!"
Tapiya wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his fighting spirit faltering.
He knew this assessnt wasn't simple; to join the Senate as a prospective Governing Officer, one at least needed the strength to survive against an Incarnation of the Saint. As for defeating him, only the combined strength of the three offered a glimr of hope.
Tapiya turned his gaze to Gewas and Ryan, who had co to the sa realization. The three exchanged looks and rged into shadows.
However, there were two Incarnations of the Saint from the Rothfuss family.
Boom!!
The shadow mud on their bodies shattered, like dilapidated dolls tossed aside, heavily smashing into the ground.
"Cough!"
They vomited blood one after another, shocked to their cores.
"This power… How could Jack have possibly killed him with just the strength of Sequence Six?!"
Gewas's expression contorted, speaking incredulously.
"Moreover, what he faced at that ti was the full-might Incarnation of the Saint..."
Ryan, regathering the "Shadow Coffin" around himself, said solemnly.
The three fell into a brief silence again.
They had already greatly overestimated Jack, but now, facing the Incarnation of the Saint themselves, they realized their ideas had been too simplistic...
This was not a level of power they were accustod to!
"If the plan had proceeded smoothly, the three of us together might actually have had a chance to defeat one of them, but it's all been disrupted by Jack…"
Gewas spat angrily.
"Talking about this now is useless."
Tapiya said coldly.
Whizz—!!
Invisible attacks ca once again, accompanied by a piercing scream.
Tapiya's face tensed, and he suddenly shouted in another direction:
"Jack! How long do you plan to play?!"
The two Incarnations of the Saint from the Rothfuss Family imdiately ceased their actions.
Tapiya's eyes twitched, and his companions beside him realized too—Jack had once cut down another Incarnation of the Saint from the Rothfuss family, attracting far more hatred than any of them.
"Jack..."
Sorin and Moxis slowly erged, cloaked in shadowy capes, hovering mid-air, coldly overlooking another direction. They rembered Hor from the family, whose Incarnation was killed by a club mber nad Jack.
"That guy isn't Tapiya; he's fooling us,"
the elder Moxis said calmly.
Chen Lun was engaging in a deceptive battle with eight Mid Sequence Transcendents from the Rothfuss family. Although it appeared perilous, he was actually at ease. He deliberately posed as the weaker party, besieged and suppressed, barely avoiding attacks each ti without managing a single counterattack.
But internally, he enjoyed the charade.
The ten-minute combat required for the Promotion Task had already passed four minutes.
He hoped to drag it out further.
However, the opposing eight also realized sothing was amiss; no matter how lucky this guy seed, there was no way he could last this long without a scratch!
"Lord Sorin, Lord Moxis!"
One of the family mbers imdiately spoke up.
"This guy is strange!"
"You two deal with these three Golden Cup mbers,"
Sorin ordered succinctly.
Imdiately, he and the elder Moxis charged towards Chen Lun, while the eight originally surrounding Chen Lun turned their weapons and headed for Gewas and his group.
The battlefield shifted in an instant.
Seeing this, Chen Lun sighed with slight regret,
"It seems I've been discovered..."
He shrugged his shoulders, preparing to transform into his "Pale Knight" form to take on the two half-damaged Incarnations of the Saint.
Just then,
The ravaged streets and the screaming crowd around vanished, the scene undergoing a drastic change—a layer of blurred, twisting blue covered their field of view.
All the Transcendents present were dragged into the Spirit World!
A dazzling golden light descended from the sky, landing in the center.
Hum!
A man draped in a white robe embroidered with gold, wearing a crown, stood still and looked around indifferently, first fixing his gaze on Sorin and Moxis.
"Terence!"
Sorin narrowed his eyes and voiced the identity of the other.
Terence's eyes slightly drooped.
"Rothfuss family... dare you still linger within the Empire's borders?"
He gently shifted his gaze, then fell on Chen Lun. Although the other's appearance had changed, Terence recognized at once that this man was Jack Spett... one of his own "Light" incarnations had been destroyed by him.
"And you, Jack, none of you need leave today."
Terence's voice grew colder.
The Tapiya trio sighed with relief at this scene.
They also felt a sense of schadenfreude.
His Majesty Terence indeed sent an incarnation, and Jack was about to face a chaotic battle against three incarnations of the Saint.
They could use this opportunity to kill mbers of the mid-sequence of the Rothfuss family and gain so achievents... Unless Jack could fight three against one, there was no way he could pass this examination.
Eventually, the one to enter the Senate would be chosen among the three of them.
Perhaps, Jack might even die here.
His Majesty Terence was just taking advantage of the examination to settle personal grievances with Jack... That had nothing to do with them.
Gewas, Ryan, and Tapiya's faces all showed a hint of a smile.
"Your Majesty Terence, you may have so misunderstandings about ; we can talk about it slowly later... For now, let's focus on the proper matters, the Rothfuss family has committed nurous evils, many of the mysterious threats to the Empire in the past were caused by them."
Chen Lun reverted to his original appearance and chuckled lightly.
He was not surprised by Terence's arrival; the results of previous Divination had foretold this scene.
It can be said that because he had already guessed the intentions of the Tapiya trio, he lured the remnants of the Rothfuss family here.
Thinking to stay out of it and watch him struggle?
Dream on!
"Moreover, like you, I am now a mber of the Righteous God Church; internal strife among our own people is just letting the Rothfuss family mbers mock us..."
"You're still as eloquent as ever, Jack."
Terence said indifferently, his expression unchanged.
He no longer responded, only the crown on his head burned, a pair of golden illusory wings erged behind him, and a lightsaber appeared in his right hand.
Subsequently, he turned into a streak of light and charged straight at the two incarnations of the Rothfuss family. Chen Lun happened to be right in his path, but Terence showed no intention of avoiding, even swinging his sword in attempt to cut down this nuisance!
'No intention of joining forces? It seems last ti's incident left the Archbishop quite displeased with ...'
Chen Lun thought.
He instantly perford an Instantaneous Movent, evading Terence's horizontal slash of the lightsaber, and ca up behind Sorin and Moxis. With a bang, he transford into the "Pale Knight"!
The silver greatsword on his shoulder burned with a purplish-red Fla; a heavy slanted chop fiercely slashed towards the backs of the two.
Clang clang clang! Clang!!
Two slender, tall shadows, five ters high, erged draped in long shadowy robes fluttering without wind. They, one in front and one behind, deftly blocked dozens of light sword slashes from Terence, as well as the Pale Knight's greatsword strikes.
Boom boom boom...
The aftershocks of the clash shook this area of the Spirit World, bending street lamps from the impact, cracking the cobblestone surface, and collapsing a few nearby shops.
Gewas and the others, plus eight mid-sequence mbers of the Rothfuss family, kept retreating, avoiding more than a hundred ters away before they continued to clash.
This was their first ti seeing Jack, a mber of their own forces, involved in such a fearso battle scene. While the rumors had always been exaggerated, seeing it with their own eyes made them believe the rumors had been ta...
This guy, he's just like a monster!
Terence's wings spread out behind him, fluttering as he ascended sharply into the air, amidst countless, falling illusory feathers, his lightsaber aid for Moxis's pitch-black face.
The latter swung a half-ter-long sharp claw downward in a slap, yet it passed through Terence's body...
That strike missed!
Terence had used light spectrum to mislead Sorin's judgnt.
It was his illusion!
An invisible sword light from the side of Sorin sliced towards his slender shadowy neck!
Clang!!
Just then, the Pale Knight's figure instantly appeared, blocking in between, his broad silver greatsword intercepted Terence's invisible sword, emitting a deafening sound.
The three incarnations of the Saint present were taken aback for a mont, and in a tenth of a second, they spontaneously questioned...
Why would Jack do this?!
Terence calmly glanced at Chen Lun.
"Are you with them?"
"No..."
From under the cross-slits of the Pale Knight's helt, a deep chuckle erged.
"I just don't want the fight to end too soon."
Having said that, he again swung his sword, striking towards Moxis.
The lee continued anew.
anwhile, Chen Lun silently counted down.
Because of the change in opponent, the Promotion Task had begun recalculating; now seven minutes remained...
