Chapter 175: Chapter 158: Stray Bullets from History

Following Xibert into the training room, Chen Lun felt his eyes light up.

Just as Xibert had said, this was the only open-air training room in the club, and it was quite spacious. Looking up, thick glass had replaced the ceiling and was set very high.

Sunlight bead down from above, passing through the glass and making the entire training room exceptionally bright.

At the mont, there were seven or eight people in the room, each engaging in training, so of whom were fighting course instructors giving quiet guidance on the side.

“Mr. Wood, this is Mr. Jack who has just joined the club. He is also very interested in fencing,”

Xibert said to a middle-aged man with short hair.

Whooosh—!

The short-haired man swung the two-handed sword in his hand, making a whooshing sound as he slashed several tis before stopping, supporting the heavy blade with his outer elbow.

Clang!

Wood caught the blade of the sword directly with his hand, stood it upright, and leaned it against himself. Wearing leather gloves, he was unhard by the blunted, two-handed sword.

“Welco.”

He said, his tone neither warm nor cold.

“Hey, Mr. Jack, if you want to learn fencing, I recomnd Mr. Wood as a teacher… He graduated from the Tresor Royal Academy, where he studied swordsmanship and even won the Amber City Fencing Gold Award.”

Xibert introduced to Chen Lun.

“That is indeed impressive.”

Chen Lun said with a smile.

“How about I have a sparring match with Mr. Wood first, Mr. Jack? You can have a good look from the side, how’s that?”

Xibert suggested.

Chen Lun nodded.

“I’m looking forward to your performance, Mr. Xibert.”

“Alright!”

Xibert had a drink, his cheeks flushed red, which made him appear sowhat excited.

He picked up his longsword, donned his helt and protective gear, and said to his fencing instructor, Mr. Wood:

“Mr. Wood, let’s begin.”

“Be careful, Mr. Xibert.”

Wood, who was both highly skilled and bold, didn’t take any protective asures.

With a kick of his toes and a loud pang, the two-handed sword was lifted from the ground, propped by his arm, aid at Xibert like a long spear.

Whooosh!

Xibert stepped forward, his longsword thrusting out.

But in the next second, it was parried by Wood’s two-handed sword, then tilted aside with a clang and a shower of sparks.

Wood grabbed the blade of the two-handed sword with his hand and struck at Xibert with the hilt, wielding it like a warhamr.

This took Xibert by surprise, and in his panic, he didn’t know what to do, ultimately raising his sword in both hands to block.

Clang!

Xibert’s hands tingled, nearly losing his grip on the sword.

Wood took a step forward, charging into Xibert’s space within a ter, and forcefully rested his two-handed sword on Xibert’s shoulder.

“Huff… ah ha, I lose.”

Xibert conceded defeat with a wry smile.

“It seems the gap between and Mr. Wood is still so great. The moves I just learned were not even deployed before I lost.”

“Mr. Xibert’s physical condition is not as good as mine, and his skills are still very raw, losing is normal… You still need to keep working hard,”

Wood said slowly as he retracted his two-handed sword.

Chen Lun silently nodded; this Mr. Wood’s technique was very proficient, and he indeed had a strong foundation in swordsmanship.

In fact, this kind of two-handed sword was a battlefield weapon, used for charges and breakthroughs, not really suitable for duels in this kind of setting. From this, one could also tell that Wood was indeed very strong.

Pity that he was just a mortal.

No matter how excellent his swordsmanship, facing a Transcendent, he wasn’t much different from others.

“Mr. Jack, would you like to join in the fun too?”

Xibert took off his protective helt, smiling as he passed his longsword over.

After thinking for a bit, he added:

“If you feel that Mr. Wood is too strong, you can spar with instead. There are weapons of various models and types on that rack over there; you can pick any you like.”

Chen Lun shook his head.

“No need, Mr. Xibert. I’m not very fond of this type of combat.”

“It’s just a casual spar, we have protective gear here, it won’t hurt you… And you ca to the club, don’t you want to experience ‘real combat’ firsthand?”

Xibert asked with a puzzled look.

“Sir, with here, you can be assured, no one will get hurt,”

Wood added on the side, his tone steady, giving a reassuring feeling.

But Chen Lun shook his head again, politely declining with a smile.

“No, I’m just here to look around.”

“Alright, Mr. Jack… But that really is a pity.”

Xibert shrugged his shoulders, putting his longsword away with a look of regret.

Wood, who was standing beside them, was slightly taken aback before shaking his head.

He thought the dark-haired young man was being overly cautious, even to the point of cowardice, which is why he was unwilling to step into the ring for a sparring session, and couldn’t help but feel so contempt for him.

As a man, how can one be so cowardly.

Bang!!

A sudden gunshot sound reached everyone’s ears.

They turned their heads to see a middle-aged man with yellow-brown long hair, holding a firearm in his hand, aid at a target straight ahead.

Smoke curled from the barrel of the gun.

“Hahaha…! Exhilarating!”

The long-haired man leisurely reloaded his firearm and laughed loudly.

Standing by his side was a thin man, who seed to be another instructor like Wood.

“It’s already the year 4418 of the Solar Calendar, the age of the firearm. What’s the use of training in these fights and swordsmanship?!”

The long-haired man declared loudly.

“All these are outdated techniques that should be eliminated, they are antiquated combat skills, the new era should be ruled by firearms!”

Wood’s brows furrowed, and he walked toward him with the two-handed sword in hand.

“Hey! Are you deliberately provoking ?! Sir?”

He called out in a deep voice.

A figure stood in his way, the thin man.

“Wood, this is my student, as well as my guest… What do you want to do?”

The thin man said.

Wood asked with a cold face:

“Student? Marlowe, is your course about teaching people to shoot? I wasn’t aware… Are you sure you work at the ‘Sword Fighting Club’?”

“Oh, I’m just teaching Mr. Ford combat steps and dodging techniques, there’s no rule in the club that prohibits firearm practice here…”

The thin man nad Marlowe shrugged.

“Hey, I know him, Ford… he’s the manager of the ‘Firepower Shooting Club’ that just opened in the next block!”

Xibert looked at the long-haired man, feeling he looked familiar, and suddenly he rembered sothing and spoke up.

Hearing his words, everyone’s gazes towards Ford changed.

“It seems you’ve co here on purpose to stir up trouble, Mr. Ford?”

Wood said coldly.

“Oh oh, don’t misunderstand… I’m rely stating a fact.”

Ford ran his fingers through his sandy blonde hair and patted the firearm in his hand lightly.

“How about we have a match? See who is the ultimate winner…? It just so happens that I’m here, promoting the ‘Firepower Shooting Club’! There, you can find various models of firearms, and even veterans who have been on the battlefield as instructors!”

“Bastard!”

Wood cursed in anger.

This act of hijacking business in public was extrely disgusting. He couldn’t help himself and placed a hand on Marlowe’s shoulder, who was also a teacher of the course.

“Marlowe, Mr. Charles lent us a hand when we were down and out, is this how you repay him?”

Wood asked in a low voice.

Marlowe’s face changed slightly, but soon turned cold again.

“No one complains about earning too much money, Wood… you wouldn’t understand.”

“You bastard…”

Wood glared at him.

“Fine! I accept your challenge!”

He suddenly turned his head and yelled towards the long-haired man, Ford.

Ford sneered, spun the firearm in his hands twice, and pointed at Wood.

“I respect your courage! But I wouldn’t want to end up in jail for murder…”

He pulled out a piece of paper.

“I’ve already signed this waiver, if you’ve got the guts, sign it yourself.”

Wood’s eyes narrowed slightly.

The opponent had gone to this extent, obviously having preditated the provocation. Intentionally provoking, then using soone as a scapegoat to make a na for the shooting club.

But Wood did not choose to back down.

That was his nature, not to shrink from the challenge. If it weren’t for his temperant, he wouldn’t have been kicked out of the army in the first place, nor would he have ended up on the streets.

Wood strode forward, took the waiver expressionlessly, and signed his na swiftly.

“Good! Since that’s the case, let’s begin!”

Ford folded the agreent and tucked it into his chest, shouting loudly.

The two backed away seven or eight ters to stand, following the rules of the fighting arena. If they increased the distance further, it would be an irrediable disadvantage for Wood.

Everyone focused their attention on the two, seemingly exhilarated and excited at the prospect of the upcoming bloodshed.

A few people had gone out at so point and spread the word, attracting more and more people to this side, squeezing into the open-air training room.

Chen Lun stood beside Xibert, watching from the periter of the circle.

‘He could be called a fool, or a brave soul…’

That was his assessnt of Wood.

Wood had already switched his two-handed sword for a longsword, ready to give it his all.

A haze of chaos flickered in Chen Lun’s eyes.

After “Divination,” coupled with his own predictions, he had already roughly seen the outco of the battle—Ford would be beheaded by a single sword strike, but ultimately Wood would also die from lead poisoning.

Snap!

The fight had begun!

A gasp arose from the crowd as Wood rushed forward first, his speed was incredibly fast, like a lithe cheetah. In this process, he held the sword with both hands, high in front of his eyes.

Bang!!

A gunshot rang out!

At that instant.

It was as if Wood had an epiphany, everything seed fated, as he raised his longsword and struck forward.

Clang—!!

A crisp sound echoed, sparks flying, as the fired bullet was split into two by his sword.

The stray bullet whistled through the air, headed straight for Chen Lun’s forehead!

‘No, this isn’t the outco I divined…!’

A thought flashed through Chen Lun’s mind.

Whoosh!

Chen Lun lifted his Silver Staff and waved it lightly.

Clang!

The staff drew a semicircle, accurately deflecting half of the lead bullet, then nonchalantly lowered it.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye.

Other than Xibert, who was standing beside him, no one noticed anything unusual.

“Jack… Mr. Jack?!”

Xibert’s eyes widened.
