After bidding farewell to Catherine and Eve, Charles, accompanied by dusa and Little Green, traversed the entire Serene Forest at an astonishing speed.
During this journey, Charles encountered several Overlords who were hostile towards him. Naturally, Charles dealt with these Overlords effortlessly, eliminating them all.
anwhile, dusa and Little Green took on the task of obliterating any hostile creatures they ca across.
The trio managed to reach the edge of the Serene Forest in just a day and a half.
The boundary between the Serene Forest and the Desert of Sands was not particularly distinct. The transition between the two regions was gradual, the closer one got to the Serene Forest, the more abundant the vegetation, while the nearer one approached the Desert of Sands, the sparser the vegetation beca.
Just before leaving the Serene Forest, Charles made it a point to gather so food and drinking water.
"You two should also carry so food and drinking water. Finding drinkable water in the Desert of Sands is an extrely difficult task." Charles advised.
dusa and Little Green nodded in agreent.
dusa couldn't carry much, but Little Green, having been strengthened many tis, could carry a lot.
Little Green carried enough drinking water for the three of them to last half a month.
"Overlord, is this water enough?" Little Green excitedly ran to Charles and asked him.
Charles was quite shocked at how much drinking water Little Green could carry.
Charles nodded and said, "It's more than enough! Actually, we don't need this much water. Even though it's very difficult to find drinking water in the Desert of Sands, there are towns scattered throughout it.
We can resupply when we reach those towns. Those towns must have drinking water, otherwise, there wouldn't be any life in them."
Upon hearing this, Little Green felt a little dejected.
However, he still followed Charles's orders.
The three of them carried enough drinking water and food and entered the Desert of Sands.
As soon as they entered the Desert of Sands, Charles felt a faint sense of threat, as if Emperor Serpent was watching him.
"Should I put on The Pale Mask now? The Desert of Sands is the territory of the Serpent Empire. Emperor Serpent must have sensed that I am here."
Thinking of this, Charles imdiately put on The Pale Mask.
The Pale Mask instantly covered the skin on his face. At the sa ti, Charles could actually feel his power diminishing. His strength seed to revert back to mid-tier level two.
"After putting on The Pale Mask, my power has indeed decreased. It appears that the negative effect of this mask is not just a new personality replacing the original one."
With The Pale Mask on, Charles couldn't move as he did before.
Charles could only follow slowly behind dusa and Little Green, heading towards the first town in the Desert of Sands that he rembered. Charles had seen a map of the Desert of Sands before.
However, that map wasn't very detailed. Charles only knew that after leaving the Serene Forest, it would take about a day or two to reach the first town.
And that town was the Serpent Empire's outpost, also the place with the most pseudo-Overlords in the Serpent Empire.
After traveling for about a day, Charles and his companions stopped under a massive rock. He planned to rest there for the night and continue their journey at dawn.
The Desert of Sands had more monsters compared to the Serene Forest, and at night, these monsters would co out to roam.
It was best not to travel in the Desert of Sands at night.
Even if they didn't encounter any monsters in the Desert of Sands, they might still be discovered by the Serpent Empire's scouts. Charles wouldn't have any way to explain himself then.
With Charles's current mid-tier level two strength, how could he possibly dare to travel at night? It just didn't make sense.
Since they had already stopped, Charles naturally took off The Pale Mask from his face. dusa lay beside him, quietly watching him.
Little Green stood guard on the outside, ensuring that no monsters would attack while Charles and dusa rested.
"Stop staring at and get so sleep! We need to pick up the pace tomorrow! If we don't reach the planned town by tomorrow night, we'll fall behind schedule."
Charles said to dusa with a smile.
As the Serpent Queen, dusa didn't actually find it difficult to travel through the Desert of Sands. In fact, she could continue traveling even at night.
So dusa smiled back at Charles and said, "Master, I'm not tired at all. If you need, I can carry you and keep moving."
Charles shook his head.
"Forget it! What if we run into the Serpent Empire's scouts while you're carrying ? I don't want to start a conflict with the Serpent Empire right after entering the Desert of Sands."
Charles knew that dusa had ways to deal with the Serpent Empire's scouts.
But Charles had already made up his mind not to engage in any conflicts before reaching the first town. He already had enough enemies and didn't want to encounter more during their journey.
After chatting with dusa for a while, Charles closed his eyes, ready to drift into dreamland.
Just then, Little Green's voice suddenly ca through.
"Master, there are other people around us!" Little Green's words imdiately put Charles and dusa on high alert.
At this mont, Charles was not wearing The Pale Mask, which ant he was at his strongest. He hadn't noticed anyone else around them at all.
Did that an the person nearby was even stronger than Charles?
dusa was thinking the sa thing as Charles. She hadn't detected anyone around them either.
As the two of them tensely scanned their surroundings, they suddenly heard human cries for help not far away.
"Is anyone there? Can soone help us? We're about to be eaten by these desert scorpions!"
Hearing the cries for help, Charles didn't take imdiate action. Instead, he turned to dusa and said, "Go ahead and see what's happening up there."
dusa nodded and then proceeded into the darkness.
Charles didn't plan to go himself because if he did, he would have to wear The Pale Mask. He didn't want to wear The Pale Mask in such an unnecessary situation.
dusa quickly advanced through the Desert of Sands at night and soon spotted the two people calling for help.
These two were just ordinary human Overlords, and behind them was a giant desert scorpion. Another half of a person was hanging from the scorpion's pincers.
"Is anyone there? You up ahead, can you save us?! Please, we're begging you!"
The closest person calling for help barely saw dusa's silhouette. He imdiately chose to plead with her for help.
Right then, Charles's voice sounded in dusa's ear.
"You should save them. I want to know why they're here. Plus, traveling with them can help us conceal our identities."
After hearing Charles's words, dusa waved her hand. Imdiately, a bone-chilling wind swept toward the desert scorpion.
The desert scorpion looked in dusa's direction, pondered for a mont, and finally chose to retreat into the endless darkness.
dusa easily saved the two human Overlords.
Naturally, the two human Overlords were very grateful to dusa.
"If it weren't for you, we would have beco food for the desert scorpions like the others." said one of the survivors to dusa.
dusa nodded and asked, "Who are you? Why are you here? Don't you know it's extrely dangerous to travel in the Desert of Sands at night?"
Facing dusa's questions, the survivor who spoke first gave a direct answer.
"My na is Eck, and his na is Johann. We are mbers of the Explorer's Guild. Our guild organized many mbers to explore the Desert of Sands."
"Initially, our mission was going smoothly, but after encountering a sandstorm, we got separated from the other team mbers. Besides the two of us, there were two others who got lost in the desert with us."
"Those two have already been eaten by the desert scorpions."
Facing Eck's words, dusa nodded, believing the information he provided.
She was waiting for Charles's decision. If Charles didn't need these mbers of the Explorer's Guild, dusa would kill them on the spot.
After all, Charles had previously ntioned that this mission couldn't afford any complications.
After a mont of waiting, Charles's voice once again reached dusa's ears.
"Bring them over. I believe mbers of the Explorer's Guild could be very useful to us. At the very least, they should be carrying maps or similar items."
dusa nodded and spoke gently to Eck and Johann, "You two might be saved, but continuing to travel at night is extrely dangerous. Why don't you co to our camp? You can decide whether to separate and go your own way after dawn."
Naturally, Eck and Johann had no objections to dusa's proposal. They promptly followed dusa to where Charles was.
